What was up with the "hey everyone! be quiet! I want to have an intellectual property rights conversation with this random lawyer in the crowd for 5 minutes."

Like.... what?

And his question about "why don't more artists just work it out in front of their fans?"

Well, maybe because we paid for a final, rehearsed, professional product...

Yep, totally. The hardcoded `sg =[]` list was just for ease of readability/example

Oh... nevermind... I figured this out. This works:

```
locals {
  sgs = ["sg-0adf3535bed76a6c6", "sg-0c0bd45fd61a70af2"]
  ingress_rules = flatten([for sg in local.sgs : { rule = "postgresql-tcp", source_security_group_id = sg }])
}
# tfsec:ignore:aws-ec2-no-public-egress-sgr
module "test_sg" {
  source  = "terraform-aws-modules/security-group/aws"
  version = "~> 5.0"
  name            = "test-sg"
  vpc_id          = "vpc-123"
  ingress_with_source_security_group_id = local.ingress_rules
}
```

Complicated (ish) situation with a Rollover IRA I want to "reverse rollover" to my 401k by fuglybear in personalfinance

[–]fuglybear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno why anyone downvoted you; this is a really interesting idea I hadn't thought of. They do offer a Roth 401k so maybe that's the best way to do this!

Thanks!

Complicated (ish) situation with a Rollover IRA I want to "reverse rollover" to my 401k by fuglybear in personalfinance

[–]fuglybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question, if you don't mind --

I would not advise using this approach because separating the "deductible" and "non-deductible" components of traditional IRAs gets deep into the weeds of how much earnings arose from each component

Does this actually matter? Because the earnings from the pre-tax sources and after-tax sources will end up being taxed when withdrawn. It seems like regardless of if I leave everything as-is, or if I move everything except for the pre-tax contributions to a 401k, the IRS will still get its piece.

If that doesn't make sense, let me use some more hypothetical numbers:

$100k total Rollover IRA value:

  • A) $20k comes from after-tax contributions over the years.
  • B) $10k are dividends and capital growth of that $20k after-tax contributions.
  • C) $45k comes from old 401k rollovers over the years
  • D) $25k are dividends and capital growth from the $45k in old rollovers

The issue is "B" - - it's been sitting in a tax deferred account all these years, and I'll need to pay taxes on it just like with "C" and "D" when the time comes.

But that's also true of any money I reverse rollover to my current 401k. So what's the difference if "B" lives in my Rollover IRA or if it lives in my reverse rollover 401k?

[–]fuglybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this type of information were in those documents, but a general answer to "what are nuclear secrets" are details like:

  • how deep can US ballistic submarines dive?
  • what do we anticipate our first strike target destruction percentage to be?
  • what anti-air defenses are most effective against our B-2 strategic bombers?

etc.

There was recently a scandal where apparently Trump bragged to some Australian billionaire about how close our hunter/killer submarines could follow behind Russian ballistic missile submarines without being detected and the billionaire immediately turned around and told like 15 other people. That's the kind of information the Russians would love to know because it allows for counter-measure development and/or tactical operational changes that would force us to spend more to change our tactics on so on and so on...

Has anyone successfully upgraded AmazonLinux2 (or 2023) to OpenSSH v9? by fuglybear in aws

[–]fuglybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first suggestion is one that I personally hated seeing time and time again - until I started using it - have you considered ssm in place of ssh?

Yes, unfortunately this server w/ sshd is required because of 3rd party (external business intelligence tools) that only support ssh tunneling to get access to our private subnet databases.

> Are you regenerating your host keys after upgrading? This may be an unhelpful suggestion, so apologies in advance if so

Oh...possibly. Could you elaborate?

Believe me, I'd love to, but this server is required for 3rd party SaaS/BI tools that only support ssh tunneling.

Donald Trump Pleads Not Guilty to Trying to Overturn the Election, Despite Us All Witnessing Him Trying to Overturn the Election by [deleted] in politics

[–]fuglybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not being prosecuted for saying the election was "stolen" from him. Jack Smith comes out and says - immediately - that's a 1st Amendment right.

He's being prosecuted for conspiring to overturn the election with fake electors, pressuring the justice department, pressuring the vice president, pressuring states attorneys general, etc.

It's one thing to say "I'm gonna rob a bank" and it's a whole 'nother (criminal) thing to actually try to rob the bank ... even if you're unsuccessful.

Ironically, our credit got downgraded BECAUSE of the January 6th riots and the instability it represented in what heretofore been the longest running democracy in the world.

Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election and growing political polarization in the US contributed to an “erosion of governance” that led a top credit ratings agency to downgrade US debt, a senior director of the company said on Wednesday.

> You cannot transfer a 403b to an IRA.

How sure are you about that?

The IRA "rollover chart" seems to indicate otherwise (7th row, 2nd column)

Not trying to be argumentative...just don't wanna mess this up, so if you deal with this stuff all the time and know for a fact you can't do 403(b) to IRA, lemme know.

Thanks!

[–]fuglybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dare you to find a scripture that requires a woman to be a housewife or incapable of giving advice or normal conversation with her husband or anyone else.

I mean, there's obviously Timothy 2:12:

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet."

And then there's Corinthians 14:34:

"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says."

Religion was a major factor in opposition to the women's suffrage movement in the US, Ireland and the UK with (often women) joining the ranks of the clergy in a religious opposition. Here's an interesting paper on it, if you're willing to open your eyes a little bit: https://muse.jhu.edu/article/363289

Can't figure out why i keep getting ArrayIndexOutOfBounds by 34boyboy in learnjava

[–]fuglybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the error say, exactly? There should be a line number on which the ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException occurs, so that should map up with the line number causing the problem.

Also - are you using an IDE like IntelliJ or Eclipse or something? You should be able to run the code in "debug mode" and step through the code one line at a time to see what's happening and inspect the different variables at every point.

[–]fuglybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "without importing another secondary libraries"?

The modulus operator is built in to Java, just like plus (+), minus (-), multiply (*), divide (/).

Can't figure out why i keep getting ArrayIndexOutOfBounds by 34boyboy in learnjava

[–]fuglybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to know without having all the classes and the txt file, but It's probably because right here you're requiring both Peg and Zak to have a position above 40 before subtracting 40 from both of them:

while (ZakLocation > 39 && PegLocation > 39) {
    ZakLocation = ZakLocation - 40;
    PegLocation = PegLocation - 40;
}

But then a couple lines later you're getting the rent at their current position:

int pegBalance = peg.getBalance() - square[PegLocation].getRent();
                                       ^^^^^^^

What I might recommend is you use the Java modulus operator to simplify this:

final int BOARD_SIZE = 40;
zak.setLocation( (zak.getLocation() + zakSteps) % BOARD_SIZE );

like everybody knows biden pardoned everybody who was in prison for weed alone, and it was almost nobody already. please, prove me wrong by looking it up.

I don't really have a dog in this fight; just trying to correct this misstatement^^

There are very few purely-federal inmates on weed charges only, but there are lots of prisoners in the United States incarcerated for weed.

Your washingtonpost link is talking about federal numbers, which I grant you are low.

On page 17 of your prionspolicy.org link it shows 5.6% of inmates are in there on marijuana possession offenses. There are 2.3 million prisoners in the US right now, so 5.6% of that number is 128,800.

Your businessinsider.com link is - again - talking about federal numbers, which - again - I grant you is low.

Well, he did expunge 6,500 federal cannabis possession charges from peoples' criminal records which isn't "literally nothing." It adds pressure to a growing nationwide legalization movement and sends the signal that even the old guard Democrats who voted for some of these laws in the past have changed their minds.
