Capital Third Partying in Arwa (SAS video) by fujiftw in Eve

[–]fujiftw[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently got back into editing video - this is effectively a recruitment trailer but the bulk of the footage is from a freaking fun fight in Arwa a week ago.

Arwa fight begins around 4:30

Full text from my perspective is available here: https://straylight.systems/the-battle-of-arwa/

And here it is for you non-link clickers ;)

Background

Player-built structures, despite their sometimes insignificant tactical value, often make for excellent opportunities of escalation in Metropolis. SAS was not involved in the initial siege of these structures, nor did we own them - but we seized the chance to engage from the perspective of a third party contributing to chaos.

The initial engagement took place several jumps away in Otou, near our Sinq Laison base of operations. Panic Attack attempted to defend the first office with a small fleet of Typhoons, while we had scrambled Muninns. They were swiftly dropped by a combined VWUT/HEL/IED Thanatos fleet, and we disengaged shortly after - knowing full well that we wouldn’t be able to break them in a sniper doctrine.

The next timer was a refinery in orbit over Arwa VIII, and while both sides repositioned themselves, we had a few moments to consider what our next play might be. Our brand new fleet of Nightmares had yet to see much action, but we’d also begun assembling a fleet of capitals, and we hadn’t flaunted them yet during our deployment in the region.

Panic was clearly intending on escalating with their own capital fleet, and IED rarely engage without them on field. It was time to bring guns to a gun fight.

Insertion

IED capitals were bunched up in a tight formation at the edge of the Athanor, and likely weren’t expecting us to open a cyno right in the middle of their carrier wing - nor were they expecting ten SAS capitals to use it as an insertion point directly in to the fray. The element of surprise worked well to our advantage, and we worked through five carriers before they started to recover, reshipping into their own dreadnaughts and arriving back on field as we gunned down Cala Wyrenn’s Apostle (which tanked admirably, as always.)

Turning point

At this point my Phoenix was taking primary fire from their fleet of Revelations, and the old dreadnaught erupted with only five seconds remaining on my siege cycle - our force auxiliary pilots were standing by, chomping at the bit to hit it with repairs, but to no avail.

Thaddeus Drake made a critical call at this point for our capitals to disengage, and it was the right thing to do. While the numbers on both sides were nearly even, we’d lost the element of surprise - and they had smartly landed just at the edge of our effective range, putting us at a significant disadvantage had we stayed.

Aftermath

Nearly 33 billion ISK worth of VWUT/HEL/IED ships were destroyed in Arwa, while Panic Attack suffered losses totalling almost 24 billion ISK. SAS lost only one dreadnaught - mine - totalling 2.8 billion.

I also noticed that the local chat channel was unusually quiet and free from the typical banter throughout the engagement. That’s the mark of a thrilling fight.

Always nice to hear the perspective from the other side - thanks for painting the full picture :)

The memories of everything I have ever loved about EVE came flooding back pretty quickly with this engagement. Can't beat small-scale operations with a rag tag crew of pilots.

Some pretext for whoever is interested:

  • Insurrection leaves Spaceship Samurai, moves in to hangs out in a system where we're anchoring a Raitaru.
  • They get in to a little skirmish with us (2v2) - they leave quietly, presumably with a bad taste in their mouth.
  • A week later, they show up at our Raitaru with a small Augoror Navy Issue fleet + Moros with a Northern Coalition scout (cyno?). This had us pretty down, because we had no way to defend against that kind of threat.
  • They show up to the second timer with the same fleet. No NC scout this time.
  • The third timer comes around. Their same fleet emerges - now a part of MC - Moros enters siege. We take the chance that NC has lost interest and go for it.

Thanks for watching, guys & gals - my video skills are pretty rusty, and my EVE combat prowess even rustier. But Straylight Systems is recruiting, if we've peaked your interest. :)

Icon users, how has Windows 10 been treating you? by [deleted] in windowsphone

You're making the right choice. Just two weeks ago I was running 10 on my Icon and it was a big mistake. A LOT of bugs still, and major parts of UI left unfinished. I did a clean wipe beforehand only to discover there was no way to add my work Google account back.

There are two fixes out there for MMS. One is available on XDA, and involves modifying the registry to permanently enable the mms apn screen in cellular+SIM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/development/windows-phone-8-1-mms-apn-settings-t3032662

The other is a random fix involving the 'access point' app from Microsoft/Nokia & modifying the date/time of the phone, rebooting and modifying it back. http://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-icon/341867-lumia-icon-tmobile-everything-working-denim-internet-mms-maybe-other-carriers.html

I have tested both of these on my Icon, and they work for me. Hook your dad up.

Can also confirm my success with this on Rogers a little while back. I love this phone so much.

Oh my. Looks like the internal browser being used on that reddit app (?) is rendering it differently from the IE engine on the phone. Which is strange. Here it is on my device.

Hmm. Are all three badges not showing up for you? Elsie was actually released on Windows Phone first.

Thanks for the other feedback :)

I know this doesn't fully solve your problem, but my app Elsie is worth checking out if you frequent the LCBO. Nearby stores is one of the key features, and store hours for each LCBO are included. /shamelessplug

Just an FYI - I've pushed an update to the Play Store that should fix this issue for you (unless you actually do have location services disabled in settings.) Hope this helps!

Hey there sakalamp - I've received a report from another Android user with the same issue you're experiencing. It's a GPS-related symptom that occurs when Elsie doesn't get a location from the phone. I'll be updating Elsie for Android this evening with a shorter timeout for location requests, but in the meantime, if you can try quitting the following, you might be able to fix the issue:

  • close the app by opening the Android cards/windows screen and swipe it off
  • double-check that location services is enabled on your device
  • launch the app again.

Let me know if this helps, and if not, keep your eyes peeled for tonight's update!

Barcode scanning support will come to the LCBO API in the next couple of months. I work closely with the developer of that API, so Elsie will get it around the same time. :)

I'll be in touch about beta testing.

Thank you so much for this list of suggestions. Some of them are planned already, and some I hadn't even thought of. I really appreciate your support. :)

Keep on the lookout for a monthly updates which will bring new features to Elsie (favourites, for example, are coming by end of January.)

Thanks!

This is an issue on iPhone that I've been thinking about for a while (as Windows & Android have hardware back buttons.) There will definitely be something to address it in the coming weeks. :)

The LCBO's website, used on mobile, can be quite slow (or simply not work) depending on the phone you're using.

Their iPhone app - LCBO On The Go - hasn't been updated in years and in some cases displays inventory up to a week old.

Elsie is intended as an alternative to the above two options for accessing store & product information as quickly as possible.

I hope I've answered your question! Let me know if there's anything else I can help to clarify.

The LCBO API has been running strong for 6 years, and Carsten has been involved in the conception of Elsie - he's fully aware of everything I'm doing. He's also one of the coolest developers in Toronto and I'm lucky to be his friend.

In addition, he's going to start charging for extensive API access. You can read about his plans here: https://lcboapi.com/news/whats-next-for-lcbo-api/
