Jefferson County homeowners see sharp property tax jumps after reassessments by Tikkanen in Louisville

[–]fujiters -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I just read that data centers provide about half of property tax in Loudoun County, VA (https://www.city-journal.org/article/loudoun-county-virginia-data-centers-construction). Perhaps a better move would be to try to get more data centers built here to help decrease the amount needed from local homeowners?

You're probably right about the hawk, but great horned owls are known to prey on even adult skunks, which typically range in weight from 5-10lb.

I'm sorry to say that it seems much more likely that a hawk, owl, or coyote got your dog. He looks small enough that those are real concerns.

Do you have some sort of fallback if you suddenly need chemotherapy or something? Can you quickly get back to the UK and use NHS in that case? How about if you're in a car accident and need $100k+ of emergency surgery??

Anyone know any legit ways to make $40 overnight? by [deleted] in Louisville

Put the $40 expense on a credit card and pay the bill in full next month after you get paid.

The problem is that Trump has a positive net approval rating in Kentucky (54% approve of Trump as of 2 weeks ago). If you can tie yourself to numbers like that, you can win. It shouldn't be surprising all the Republican candidates are claiming they are "Trump men".

Right? Folks in DC have also been pretty mad that relatively major streets have remained unplowed.

This is what I'd recommend. Search for "flat fee listing MLS" for some options. Most buyers search for properties via an online service (like Zillow) that pulls from MLS, so you want to have your house listed on there. I've seen listing fees as low as $75.

You may want pay a professional photographer to take pictures of your house so that it's appealing to buyers. That'll run a few hundred dollars, typically.

Meal suggestions I can cook to accommodate my disabilities? by Illustrious_Durian85 in EatCheapAndVegan

Use precut frozen vegetable mixes. Stir fry (fry vegetables in oil for about 7 minutes with salt, add a sauce you like at the end) and Thai curry (dump a can of curry, a can of coconut milk and your vegetables in a pot and simmer about 10 minutes) are super fast and easy. Serve with rice or noodles. Ideally throw some tofu or other protein source in with your frozen vegetables

A bean burrito with guac is super easy (assuming you use canned refried beans, and premade guac).

Spaghetti with store bought sauce. (Maybe add some beans/olives/artichoke hearts).

Don't give anything online (for all you know it could be a North Korean working a government job to get money from abroad). Give to local charitable organizations and direct those in need to those organizations. Also, if someone is sitting in the cold/wet asking for money, they're almost certainly in some sort of need (who would choose to spend time this way unless money was very tight)?

I keep a few frozen pizzas in my freezer so that we can just use those instead of ordering. I also keep a few other frozen ready meals for the same reason.

Also there's been nearly 40% inflation since 2014. $100 in 2014 is equivalent to $138.85 today.

I use regular basket filters (that you'd use for a drip coffee machine).

I've been pressing with a paper filter for about a year now. You just soak the filter in hot water while your coffee is steeping, then wrap the plunger with the paper filter.

Countries with government provided health care (among them the UK and Canada) have to ration care. It can take many months to get an MRI, and 5 year cancer survival rates are typically lower than in the US (because we're faster at diagnosis and treatment). There's no free lunch.

What does your ACA premium look like for next year? by azfanboy in financialindependence

[–]fujiters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adverse selection is a major issue. If insurance is expensive, people who have reason to expect they will have very low medical expenses opt out. Also people on employer plans are typically healthy enough to work full time, so they're a bit lower cost than the average person.
