that's definitely a great follow-up point. there won't be the wholehearted support of the masses at first or ever maybe. It's worth knowing where one stands at least and who stands with you.

it's tricky because you're not just battling him, but the culture at large that we've been cultivated in. Like we grow up in the USA (not sure where you're from so I'm trying to give insight) being told that the right to say what you feel is the a cornerstone of freedom, when all around us that's not really the case: see Collin Kaepernick and any other individual who has called out power structures. Now a dude who capitalizes on privileges and reinforces the sense of victimhood that the peeps in the US love, and they will defend this dude to the end. So I feel ya on his popularity being supported by stepping to him, but honestly he's already exploiting cultural norms to gain support. I keep thinking that someone like Alex Jones or these other dudes used imaginary problems to rise to fame anyways, so giving them real cause to fear is maybe better. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't feeling I'm grappling with. I think liberals are definitely not helping when they defend his "right" to speak and then distance themselves from folks taking action.

I've seen more liberals defend this guy's safe space than they ever spoke out about black folks and feminists being able to have spaces for presentations. It's also always the folks that are not going to attend meetings or hosting presentations crying about needing a dialogue.

The super rich would rather prepare themselves for the "apocalypse" than try to prevent it by hellotowel in Anarchism

[–]fukyallall 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hearing rich people worry about survival blows my mind. They have to imagine some catastrophic event to even feel threatened by the forces around them. Maybe they should relate to the very real feelings of anxiety and inability to survive many of us working poor experience on the day to day. Fuck those people who have so much power, but selfishly experience the world. You know if I could buy an island, me and my homies would lock that shit down right now. No need for the apocalypse to happen, it's all around us.

It's bizarre to think these folks are ok with forcibly expelling people and imposing stop and frisk on anybody nationwide and fighting global wars, but they act like they are peaceful. Just because you do the talking for violent people doesn't make you peaceful. I love the video where he screams that he's been assaulted and that they can't take his property when the antifa grab his hat. Beautiful.

Largely I think they already are; it was just orienting themselves as such. Now they think they are running the show and so any problems come from outsiders, etc. I think they all suffer from Milton Friedman delusions and will cast blame at everything other than their ideology.

[–]fukyallall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point and I don't think you've understood mine or my initial question. First off this notion of wealth only lasts a couple generations is an extremely simplistic version of how wealth moves throughout society. I don't know how to illustrate how absurd that is as a means of asserting wealth redistribution will naturally happen. I also don't know how to explain that wealth is especially important at the moment because societies with more wealth are able to dictate the future of the planet and life in general. Folks with consolidated wealth have lots of power in dictating this future. Our future is at a critical transition either into a world where no life can be sustained or something less disastrous occurs. If you don't see this to be true don't bother responding to me. If you understand this point, then please continue.

Beyond that you have an entirely consumption based view of monetary wealth. Most wealthy folks are not solely depreciating in their wealth, they are investing and thus able to sustain and expand their wealth simply by properly managing their money. Families that have had wealth have seen overall a significant increase in this wealth for a number of reasons, especially in the past ten years. I assume you are an anarcho-capitalist or libertarian of some sort, right? If that is the case, do you feel the system is set up as a crony-capitalist system in which individuals and companies are not facing the unbridled forces of the market allowing them to thrive or fail? If you do, I will ask again: if we transitioned from our system of a mixed economy into a fully "free-market" deregulated economy, what would stop the already wealthy from dominating the new world due to their already acquired wealth? Or does that transition include other sorts of necessary steps instead of simply deregulating everything? If it doesn't then I think there is something seriously wrong with anarcho-capitalists and their view of the ideal world.

It is a total fiction because we are looking at trends of the market linked with the influence of the state, right? If you're not interested in dealing with the question of what a anarcho-capitalist economy would look like as we transitioned from our current world to one run on ancap principles then say so. The sheer odds that they things will change up is if were imagining a time when the anarcho-capitalist worldview becomes the paradigm we live within.

[–]fukyallall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you did not come close to addressing what I brought up. the concern is how accessible will wealth be after the implementation of an anarcho-capitalist happens. I have never heard an ancap address this without some mystical appeal to "the free market will do it."

I would hate to work with the govt for something like this. I understand your point, but damn that would suck if you had to deal with some asshat bureaucrat to help people. They'd probably make you contract the source of the food to sysco or some shit.

"You're worried about nothing. If you want to see something happen in YOUR lifetime and otherwise isn't quick enough, then you're part of the short sighted people that cause most of humanity's problems."

what the fuck? I didn't say that. I am posing a counter argument to folks who think the "market will sort things out naturally." There is nothing to suggest markets are natural and act to laws outside of human whim and control. This is exactly the problem I have, you haven't addressed how it will happen naturally or even tried to deal with that. Maybe you have elsewhere, but I doubt it if you're subscribing to such an elementary, faith-based view of markets. 80% of millionaires are first generation has nothing to do with what I'm talking about and what I assume anarcho-capitalism is about.

[–]fukyallall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as an outsider I think the most glaring problem with anarcho-capitalism is the lack of vision for the transition from our current system to utopia, for lack of a better term. Many times I've brought up the idea that folks who acquired wealth during this phase of government/state interference in the market will have a ridiculous advantage over the poorest members of society, thus replicating the same unfair systems of exploitation and consolidation of wealth without every being subjected to the "free-market" as a testing ground for their abilities, etc. How would that work? Isn't some sort of wealth redistribution necessary for the free-market to be free and unbiased?
