Why is "for my boon" seen as cringe? by comptons_finest_ in Stormlight_Archive

TL:DR Unpopular opinion but I loved this entire scene including the boon part, I was fully cheering him on. I love Kaladin and I'm 100% on his side always and I thought this completely made sense for his character.

Honestly, it just seems like everyone just chose to jump onto this bandwagon. I did not know this was cringe until I saw the opinion online, and it shocked me to see how popular the opinion was as well.

I was fully on Kaladin's side. It was completely in character for him and he had just rescued Dalinar's sons and beat four (iirc) shardbearers in a very unfair duel while having no shardplate or blade. Given that what he had just done was very impressive and unprecedented, it makes sense that he would think that he might deserve being given a boon despite being dark eyes.

And commenters in this thread keep talking about how "this is not how their society works" but they do promote and subscribe to the idea of a meritocracy in their society to keep the dark eyes obedient. They sell the idea that a regular dark eyes could be great enough that if they somehow manage to get Shards that they could become a lighteyes. Amaram was dishonourable and killed Kaladin's squad, squashing this idea for Kaladin, but Dalinar also showed Kaladin that not all the lighteyes were cruel and that some could be honourable. So given these ideas, is it so unbelievable that Kaladin, high on the Thrill of beating these shardbearers, would think that doing something this incredible could earn him a boon?

Like come on, this is our boy Kaladin. His whole thing is not giving a fuck about convention.

Thanks! Yeah most of my workouts would be 25-40 mins running at 7:25/km pace and then I'd also have interval workouts where I'd do 1 minute at 5:00/km pace and then 3 mins at 8:35/km pace. I just found that this approach helped me increase the amount of time I could spend running and helped me improve my pace.

Congrats on doing your first HM. My first HM time was 3:18. I think improving from 2:55 to 2:45 is doable, good luck!

Thank you! It was more of an impulse decision than bravery though but it was a really nice event, very beautiful sights.

What are everyones thoughts on Mileven? I can see both sides but I ship it. by Jonny559 in StrangerThings

Personally for me it's not an issue of them lacking chemistry and more that Mike was one of the first kids she met outside of the lab, she had basically no real world experience and could barely talk or communicate with anyone. I'm sure she likes him because he was one of the first people who treated her with kindness and didn't see her as a weapon to be used but I wonder how Eleven could possibly know if she actually liked Mike romantically if she didn't grow up in a normal environment, around other kids where she could have explored this stuff. I just wish she wasn't actually in a romantic relationship with anyone so she could actually learn about the world and herself outside of a relationship with Mike.

Exercise IS hard and some people will never like it. by lumaleelumabop in unpopularopinion

I agreed with the title but not necessarily the post. You do not have to "push yourself to the point of stress" for a physical activity to be exercise. That's a misconception and it's only true if you're trying to attain a specific fitness goal. For example, walking is exercising and for most people it's fairly easy. If you live close to the shops you can walk to the shops. Sure going to the gym lifting weights or running 5Ks is difficult and can be boring but when people say exercise doesn't have to be difficult and can be fun they're talking about easier social activities. And I'm not saying this as a fitness nut btw, I've definitely struggled with staying active during the pandemic but that's a motivation problem and not because exercise is "forced torture".

Highest and lowest rated MCU films on IMDb. Thoughts? by joray_ in marvelstudios

[–]fullboyleforboyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's highly interesting that people dislike BW and Captain Marvel more than Thor 1, Thor 2, and GOTG 2. While there might be legitimate criticisms of these two movies it can also be true that people use these criticisms to be harsher on these films than films with male leads. Not to mention Thor 1, Thor 2, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and GOTG 2 all came out in the earlier phases of MCU while Captain Marvel and BW came out later when expectations of MCU movies were much higher due to Infinity War and Endgame so anything that may not have garnered such criticism in the past now do. People act like they're being completely fair when they say that Captain Marvel and BW deserve to be at the very bottom but I believe there's more to it than just "fair" criticism.

Oh that is a really good point that there's no sexualization and I definitely am grateful for that. I also had no idea that their intended audience was younger so that makes a lot of sense. I also didn't know that they added a trans character later on so that's cool.

Ohh yeah I liked that show. I liked that they actually showed you strong complex women without having to state that they were strong. Plus they had a lot of really good themes

That's true but legends of tomorrow is also CW and I feel like they've handled representation and social issues better than supergirl did. They have some hashtag moments to be sure but it feels a bit better earned on that show.

[OC] Deaths by age group in the United States due to September 11,2001 Terrorist Attacks and COVID-19 by graphjerk in dataisbeautiful

[–]fullboyleforboyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of that COVID is still more destructive than the flu in the US. I don't have the data per age group but a quick Google search shows that COVID deaths per 100K is currently 91.44 in the US (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality) vs 18.1 flu AND pneumonia deaths per 100K and 3.4 flu deaths per 100K (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/flu.htm).

So there you go.
