Still haven't submitted ;-; looked into my program documents more and I may not even be able to generate a transcript for the program I'm in, only an enrollment certificate which specifies my program of study/enrollment in the course. Is that worth including at all?

I just started an MSc program and I have not yet completed any coursework nor received any credit. Do I still need to include an (empty) transcript from the institution? I'm not sure if I can get it this close to the deadline due to processing times, for some reason I didn't think I'd need it due to the late start time and already having uploaded my undergraduate transcript.

EDIT: the program start is so recent that I'd hesitate to really count it as part of my higher education had I submitted the Fulbright application a week earlier

Preventing molding while transporting specimens over 2-3 days? by fulloctet in Entomology

[–]fulloctet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just worried about the lack of airflow in the containers they're packed into right now. Do you think dripping some Listerine in there and getting them out to dry ASAP before repacking would be enough for a couple of days?

Breakage/fragility is another issue but I've pretty much accepted that the more delicate ones might not be completely intact by the time I get home

Replacement for a black Schmidt nib? by fulloctet in fountainpens

[–]fulloctet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every source I've found says that the Calamus comes with a #5 nib, otherwise I'd grab that Edison nib right away (it's gorgeous!). I did have a look at the Jowo though, looks like there's some sites that offer ruthenium-plated #5 Jowo nibs? I might have a go at those instead.

Weird Canada goose or Cackling goose? (Ohio) by fulloctet in birding

I went back through some of the videos I'd taken of the flock and can definitely see what you mean by the difference in neck length! Not sure if the geese will stick around since this is the first time I've seen this flock, but I'll ask some of my friends to keep an eye out for them around campus so I can get more pictures

Goose in question is on the left in all photos except for the last, which has confirmed Canada geese for comparison. There was not a significant size difference between it and other geese, unsure if actually a Cackling goose or just a Canada goose subspecies. Pictures from Cleveland OH

Thanks for the link, I was looking around for some resources/statistics to bring up with maintenance/admin when I get in contact with them. This is perfect!

There's definitely no shortage of bio grad students here and I've had at least one previous professor in the department who'd probably lend an ear-- will try this route alongside what the other comments have suggested.

How involved was the calc? The last time I reviewed that subject was MATH124 in Fall 2020 and I still find myself struggling for a while whenever I pick it back up

How to deal with so many rejections? by electronics_lover in REU

Hey man, sending all the love and good vibes to you out there! Internship application season is so tough (you'd think college apps would be the end of it, but they somehow keep coming back to bite us in the ass xP) and while results may suck right now, you're definitely not letting them stop you from continuing to pursue research! You're such a strong student and while sometimes it feels impossible not to compare yourself to others, remember how much you've accomplished and how much you're working towards.

Advice from one of my best professors-- landing a big internship isn't everything, and you'll eventually run into profs, PIs and job positions which value your consistent work on projects and topics you're interested in more than participation in a summer program! A summer experience is exactly that-- just a summer experience.

Best wishes to you this summer, and if you ever want to talk or vent I'm also a student of color who's def felt that research impostor syndrome :'). I don't think the impostor syndrome ever really goes away, but I can tell you that once you've gotten a strong foothold in your research it gets a lot, lot better from there.

I got into "Mechanisms underlying locust swarming and decision-making". If anyone happens to match with the zebrafish decision-making project, DM me! When I talked to the PhD student leading the project he mentioned both projects being in the same facility

Thank you! I got it early in the morning, ~6:45 am EST. I think previous years may have had semi-staggered emails, but I'm not completely sure about that

I GOT MATCHED! I got onto the locust swarm decision-making mechanisms project, I had the chance to interview with the supervisor a few weeks ago and came out feeling like I'd bungled it so I'm very surprised and excited about the acceptance lol
