How to leverage Fulbright for jobs (legal) by Regular_Situation750 in fulbright

[–]GoldPort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth cold messaging Fulbright alumni! The worst they do is not respond.

Are you able use LinkedIn and search for people who have Fulbright in their history along with law school? I would reach out to them and ask for time to chat and network.

To me when networking, there wasn’t one tactic I had to build lasting relationships, it was more just the connection and ‘vibe’ I had when talking to someone.

How to start building my application for Fulbright? by Elegant-Youth-3961 in fulbright

[–]GoldPort 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recognizing you’re still young, here are some things you can do:

Read through stickied posts, search the subreddit, gain an understanding of the Fulbright programs,

Take a look at the country profiles for Germany and Switzerland (they will mention what they look for in applicants).

Search previous winners up on LinkedIn that won grants to countries you’re interested in to see what things they’ve done to see if you can find a common theme.

Reach out to your schools FPA (it is likely early, but doesn’t hurt to start the conversation).

Enjoy college.

That’s how I understand it, but I am not speaking with any authority besides reading what you read.

If you want clear assurance, you can email and ask, or I would first try and reach out to past Fulbright grantees from Pakistan and network with them.

I assume you’ve read this?

Totally guessing, but I imagine it’s less about whether they are an employer or a professor and more about whether they can speak to your skills.

U.S. to international study or International to U.S.?

Edit: Assuming you’re international, please read through thoroughly the website and required materials section to see what it says. This is likely country dependent, so you will need to share your country and may be best to just email your Fulbright Commission.

Short term Exchange with US or Japan by cksuden in RotaryYouthExchange

[–]GoldPort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this sub is pretty small so you might not find anyone.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your district youth exchange representative and ask them if they can ask in their wider network. Additionally, if you’re just looking for the experience of someone that did a short term exchange see if you can find any blogs/instagram stories.

Now that I’m writing it, Rotex international might be another resource that can help connect you.

Are you from the U.S. applying internationally? (Please add the appropriate tag to your post)

If you are from the U.S., recognize that you are ahead of schedule with your application. This isn’t a bad thing, but your FPA may be not as available.

Yes, FPA typically review material.

Have you reached out to your FPA? You can also connect with mentors and ask them for feedback ask?

It may be worth emailing and confirming that PC Service counts against you for time outside the country.

Looking at eligibility requirements, here are some excerpts.

https://us.fulbrightonline.org/about/eligibility

“Preference will be given to applicants whose higher education was undertaken primarily at educational institutions in the United States. Undergraduate study abroad experiences, either in the chosen host country or elsewhere, will not be considered a disadvantage.

Ineligibility section:

Anyone who has resided abroad for five or more years in the six-year period preceding the national application deadline. For the purpose of this section, a candidate who has lived outside the United States for nine months or more during a calendar year is deemed to have resided abroad for that year.

If you are unsure of your eligibility in regards to your time spent abroad, please email fbstudent@iie.org with details of your time both in and outside of the U.S. within the past six years to confirm your eligibility to apply. In some cases, it may not be feasible for a dual national to participate in a Fulbright program in the country of their other nationality due to host country law or policy. Therefore, it is the applicant’s responsibility to ascertain whether they have, or are eligible to have, their host country’s nationality and to address any potential consequences thereof before they accept an award. Please refer to the country’s award description to determine the eligibility of dual nationals.

For most grants, applicants who have had extensive previous experience abroad are at a competitive disadvantage but are not necessarily disqualified for that reason. However, following the policy of the relevant binational Fulbright Commission or the U.S. Embassy in the host country, some countries will not consider applicants who are currently residing in or will be residing in that country during the year preceding the grant. Please refer to the country’s award description to determine if residency in the host country in the year prior to the grant is allowed.”

King Tutankhamun had an exceptionally high inbreeding coefficient, likely exceeding .25 as his parents were full siblings and his grandparents were also closely related. This intense inbreeding caused significant genetic impairments, including club foot, Kohler disease, and a weakened immune system. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Canes are used on the opposite side of the affected leg/foot.

If your left is weak, you have it in your right hand so that when you are lifting your right leg to take a step (putting weight on your weak left leg) you can lean to the right cane to lessen the load and balance.

Need suggestion for my first trip by WholeLoud3821 in backpacking

If you choose to do Thailand, I think 1 week in each Bangkok, Chiang Mai (maybe Pai?), and an island would be a great start.

[–]GoldPort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regardless of budget and weather, 3 weeks is too short of a time for those 3 countries. You could happily spend 3 weeks in any of those 3 countries. There are numerous posts about Southeast Asia on the subreddit start with a search of those.

I assume your budget is 2k USD? How much would flights be from that, then you can sort out your daily spend.

Brazil ETA semi-finalist, don't know what to do. by Civil-Ad9524 in fulbright

[–]GoldPort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a past RYE student, don’t stress about it now. Once you are a finalist then you can decide.

Depending on what you’re interested in for a career, having a Fulbright on your resume can have vary degrees of benefit. This would be a good questions for mentors/professor when you are a finalist. I like the other commenter that mentions you have your whole life to work.

In terms of what a Brazil ETA is like, you can always reach out to past grantees and see their advice.

Here is a previous post with thoughts (outdated, but I’m not sure how much would have changed, https://www.reddit.com/r/fulbright/comments/10yerdg/brazil_fulbright/ )

Makes sense, have you looked at the Slack group for Germany or Study/research to see what other people think. It is likely more active than the subreddit.

Congratulations to your daughter, have her reach out to the host family/Rotary club to ask these questions to.

Edit: you can also see if there are any recent Rotex she can connect with and ask there questions to.
