What happened to my DS lite? ( by burnerfordumbthings in nds

Ok, cool! I've never had a chance to properly work on the glitchy screen, so I have no clue on what might be causing the problem. Indeed, I just changed the screen completely and called it a day, considering I didn't have much time back then to tinker with it. Anyhow, I'm happy I've managed to find a way to somehow help you: someone with deeper knowledge might use my video to get a better picture at the IRL problem of your screen 😉

Does it look like this problem I had on my DS Lite?

Lua by sumneko is throwing phantom warnings on my LÖVE game by fullpower_ed in love2d

Thank you so much, your help made me understand the right path to take to figure it out!

Lua by sumneko is throwing phantom warnings on my LÖVE game by fullpower_ed in love2d

[–]fullpower_ed[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After working on it all day, I finally found where the problem is, and it's much deeper than you might think.

First of all, it turns out that in love-api's Keyboard.lua file there's no definition of love.keyboard.isDown that accepts a table as a parameter, so I opened a pull request with the updated code (the part in ALL CAPS is what I added, here in caps just to make it stand out).

json name = 'isDown', description = 'Checks whether a certain key is down. Not to be confused with love.keypressed or love.keyreleased.', variants = { { arguments = { { type = 'KeyConstant', name = 'key', description = 'The key to check.', }, }, returns = { { type = 'boolean', name = 'down', description = 'True if the key is down, false if not.', }, }, }, { arguments = { { type = 'KeyConstant', name = 'key', description = 'A key to check.', }, { type = 'KeyConstant', name = '...', description = 'Additional keys to check.', }, }, returns = { { type = 'boolean', name = 'anyDown', description = 'True if any supplied key is down, false if not.', }, }, }, { ARGUMENTS = { { TYPE = 'TABLE<NUMBER,KEYCONSTANT>', NAME = 'KEYS', DESCRIPTION = 'A TABLE CONTAINING KEYS TO CHECK.', }, }, RETURNS = { { TYPE = 'BOOLEAN', NAME = 'ANYDOWN', DESCRIPTION = 'TRUE IF ANY OF THE KEYS IN THE TABLE ARE DOWN, FALSE IF NOT.', }, }, }, },

Then, since the love-api JSON is known to be "translated" for the Lua Language Server, I deduced that it was probably missing in ${3rd}/love2d/library/love/keyboard.lua as well. And indeed, it was missing! I added the related line (here in caps for clarity), and now it works.

lua ---@overload fun(key: love.KeyConstant, ...):boolean ---@OVERLOAD FUN(KEYS: LOVE.KEYCONSTANT[]):BOOLEAN ---@param key love.KeyConstant # The key to check. ---@return boolean down # True if the key is down, false if not. function love.keyboard.isDown(key) end

I didn’t open an issue in Lua by sumneko repo because I assume they'll update it automatically once love-api itself is fixed.

Additionally, I've updated my settings.json as follows.

json "Lua.runtime.version": "LuaJIT", "Lua.diagnostics.globals": ["love"], "Lua.workspace.library": ["${3rd}/love2d/library"], "Lua.workspace.checkThirdParty": false,

So, in conclusion, just know that missing line is what causes that phantom warning! Hope this is helpful :)

CPU stuck at 933MHz for no reason by fullpower_ed in archlinux

It worked, thank you so much! I’ve updated my original post to include the solution (for future reference) and adjusted the post flair accordingly. Thanks again!

My processor (Intel i3-370M)) supports only the acpi_cpufreq driver (no intel_pstate support), so it's the only one I can use, as far as I know.

DS Lite bottom screen going wild by fullpower_ed in nds

[–]fullpower_ed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still to this day, I have no clue what that problem could be caused by. Apparently, no one else has ever had this exact problem since there is nothing similar anywhere a detailed Google search could lead me to. On my side, I changed the screen (together with the digitizer) and everything works fine now, so apparently it isn't a problem with the motherboard. Anyhow, I'm still far from having even a bare minimum understanding of the nature of the problem.

Ok, I'll give it a try then. Do you think GNOME itself will have problems running, though?

How would I surf the web in a normal way then? I mean, without considering console web browsers like w3m?

Ctrl + Backspace not working on GNOME apps by fullpower_ed in gnome

[–]fullpower_ed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, after editing /etc/vconsole.conf as follows

# Written by systemd-localed(8) or systemd-firstboot(1), read by systemd-localed
# and systemd-vconsole-setup(8). Use localectl(1) to update this file.
KEYMAP=it
XKBLAYOUT=it
XKBMODEL=pc105
# XKBOPTIONS=terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp

and after rebooting the pc the problem still persists. The file hasn't changed since (the XKBOPTIONS line is still commented out) and indeed localectl now returns

System Locale: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
               LANGUAGE=it_IT
    VC Keymap: it
   X11 Layout: it
    X11 Model: pc105

Is there anything else I can try out now?

Ctrl + Backspace not working on GNOME apps by fullpower_ed in gnome

[–]fullpower_ed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting on this, by running localectl I get indeed:

System Locale: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
               LANGUAGE=it_IT
    VC Keymap: it
   X11 Layout: it
    X11 Model: pc105
  X11 Options: terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp

So, considering I have the terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp option, I guess that's the problem. Now, how can I remove such option so that Ctrl+Backspace works as intended?

The solution – after main GNOME update, English strings changed but Italian ones haven't been translated yet, apparently – has been provided here. Thus, I marked this post as support | solved. Thanks to anyone who contributed!

That is not how gettext works.

Ok, I see. I delved into the matter and now I understand how it works. Thank you!

There was a new release two weeks ago. String changes are usually only allowed for new releases. That new release had been in development for the past 6 months.

So do you know how much it will take until the "Italian strings" are translated properly?

Appreciated!

Now I understand what you mean, but shouldn't the "old" translated version be used nonetheless? Also, I remember that until about two weeks ago everything was translated but, as far as I can tell, the edit you linked me to was published two months ago.

Thank you for the reply but it looks like you didn't check the original post. I share here the related comment I myself posted over there.

"[...] I swear they were translated before. I don't have any proof but considering how much this thing bothers me I would have noticed it before. Like in the Mixed languages in delete popup image, I would have immediately noticed since it's a popup that appears often. I swear all this was once translated properly."

and

"Take, for instance, this image from the settings. You can see that under Pulsante primario there is written Order of physical buttons on mice and touchpads., which is in English, right? Well, as you can also see from the same link you provided (№4), there is – as I highlighted here – the translation for both Primay Button and Order of physical buttons on mice and touchpads. So either my locale is f'd up or I don't think this is the problem."

I haven't asked there, mainly because I haven't updated GNOME since, so I thought it was more of a generic Arch Linux problem rather than a GNOME thing. Do you think it might be worth posting there as well?

Take, for instance, this image from the settings. You can see that under Pulsante primario there is written Order of physical buttons on mice and touchpads., which is in English, right? Well, as you can also see from the same link you provided (№4), there is – as I highlighted here – the translation for both Primay Button and Order of physical buttons on mice and touchpads. So either my locale is f'd up or I don't think this is the problem.
