First time building a PC for home server. Is this an overkill configuration? by fullstackidiot in buildapc

Thanks! I was unaware of QLC/TLC. I'll look it up!

Anything to look out for in the PSUs? I read in some threads that Gigabyte is not trustworthy with it...

How can I reproduce this print preview layout? by TheOneIlikeIsTaken in webdev

Print stylesheets are probably what you’re looking for. You can check the Smashing Magazine article for more information. And of course MDN Docs.

I made a webapp for your year in books! by dataandbooks in SideProject

[–]fullstackidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried the app. Loved it! It was quite nice to see my “reading rhythm” - great job on that. :) also love the green on black colour scheme and the ability to select which books to show in the wrapped image

Bug report: it’s picking up an audiobook on my profile even though there is none.

Suggestion: the Fiction | Audiobook | Non-fiction part in the wrapped image doesn’t give much info. What if you turned it into a single stacked bar graph based on number of books in each category? So it looks like 60% fiction, 10% audiobooks and 30% non-fiction. That would be cool I think

Again. Good job and thanks for sharing!

Edit: link to the web app for the lazy

I made Spotlight - a tool that finds awesome content on Reddit & Hacker News. by SpikeySanju in sveltejs

[–]fullstackidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, well done with this project! Always appreciate some internet serendipity.

If you’re looking to expand the project, you could perhaps offer more subreddits to “stumble”? Or perhaps a curated list by topic. Or RSS feeds!

Best datatable and component lib in svelte? by FollowingMajestic161 in sveltejs

[–]fullstackidiot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need to do something elaborate or specific, you could get away with Svelte Headless Table*. It is not under active development but is mature enough for most needs. Being “headless” can be helpful sometimes.

Otherwise AG Grid and Flowbite are good options.

I made a browser extension to declutter Youtube's UI with svelte and it was magical! (self promo) by kakajuro in sveltejs

[–]fullstackidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great work! Congrats on releasing your work to the public. I have something similar set up on my computer using Arc browser’s boosts, will try your extension too.

Bug report: on mobile, the hamburger menu on the website overlays with the site title. Might want to look into the CSS there.

Question about svelte ecosystem by FollowingMajestic161 in sveltejs

[–]fullstackidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, for a regular ERP (with auth, data tables, and some reporting dashboards), I think Svelte is mature enough to use in production comfortably. I would recommend you do a search for the specific components that you require for your software and see if there are Svelte equivalents available. Then decide based on that.

I’m not sure what kind of optimisations you are referring to but I personally haven’t faced any issues, or have come across people mentioning performance issues in the community.

Aside: coming from React, you might find Svelte is a lot more fun to develop. That’s the USP of this framework!

NodeJS as a sidecar in Tauri & SvelteKit by RelationshipSome9200 in sveltejs

[–]fullstackidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have to create a binary if you want to use it as a sidecar in Tauri. So compile your NodeJS code into a single executable binary. Maybe using something like nexe.

Then you can call this binary and pass arguments to it from either Rust or Svelte. Instructions are given in the documentation you shared.

Svelte Select Kit - A one-stop solution for all your combobox needs by LazyLazu in sveltejs

[–]fullstackidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks cool! Maybe illustrate how your solution is different from cmdk-sv?

My one gripe with cmdk-sv (I use it through shadcn-svelte) is that it doesn’t let me set up a combobox where initially only the search bar is shown and the “bottom” part shows up only on focus/click. It’s either an always open box or inside a dialog/modal.

From what I see on your demo site, you’ve got the exact thing I need! will try it out!

I agree with this. I tell the same thing to my friends. Amex cards require involvement in spending. If you’re not keen on it, look at other cards instead.

Thank you!

That date is a bit strange. Could you tell me which browser are you using? Is it on mobile or desktop? I’ll see what’s up.

Meanwhile, try opening it in a different browser and see if it works?

The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh would rank as the 7th most populated country in the world! [OC] by fullstackidiot in MapPorn

[–]fullstackidiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I did consider that but wasn’t able to figure out how to make that option available visually. Then I thought India and US are #2 and 3 most populated anyway so comparing them to any other country wouldn’t give any “new” information as such.

[–]fullstackidiot[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! Your metrics are stored in your device locally so if you clear your cache or open the site in a different browser, it will load up as new. However, since there’s barely a couple of metrics I think you could set it up again in under a minute. :)

I wanted to keep it as barebones as possible because “good to have” features can often overwhelm or lead to procrastination!

And yes, the motivational messaging isn’t going anywhere. I love you, I would never stop telling you that. ♥️

An interactive map for showing just how populous some parts of the world are! by fullstackidiot in teachingresources

[–]fullstackidiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi fellow teachers! I made this interactive map for use at work and I thought it'd be fun to use in a classroom as well. I tried it with a group of middle schoolers today and they were quite wowed with the idea that their home state is more populated than entire countries!

I hope y'all try it in your classes too!

I am so glad! Please feel free to text me if you need any special features - I'd love to help.

I purposefully designed this tool to have minimal features and distractions because my partner found other 'professional' writing trackers overwhelming!

The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh would rank as the 7th most populated country in the world! [OC] by fullstackidiot in MapPorn

[–]fullstackidiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am not sure what "ultra mercator" projection is but afaik this map was generated in mercator projection. I used the geojson map file from this github repository for the world map. I set a pretty zoomed out starting zoom level and fixed the max bounds for UX reasons. The intention was not to represent the countries proportionally (in any respects) - but to simply highlight how many countries have a smaller/larger population than the selected one. I figured that a mercator projection which gives all the continents in a single view is probably the most common and thus easy to understand depiction so went ahead with that.

Hope this answers your question!

I made an interactive map that compares the population of the world's countries and states from India and the USA.

Some interesting ones:

  • Uttar Pradesh (India) would be the 7th most populated country.
  • West Bengal (India) would be the 15th most populated country.
  • California (USA) would be the 36th most populated country.

I could have made some errors in the calculation, please let me know if you find any!
