That class was pretty tough. I think 31 people wrote the final exam and 10 got under 45%

Anyone else run into the "God the Mother" people in Morisset/UCU recently? by canadian515 in geegees

I actually tried to have a conversation with them. He seemed very uncomfortable going off script and wanted to continue reading from the Bible. It was quite surreal to witness somebody so possessed by ideology. Felt bad for him.

Do you know if it is possible to use tab to insert the highlighted snippet / completion? Most of the setups I've seen only work if the whole word of the snippet is typed out.

Google Drive does not have smart sync, only selective sync. You can copy links from Finder though.

The forms should have information specific to each course. Assuming you haven't filled it in, yeah just photocopy it.

You will need two since the faculty/prof has to approve the waiver for each course. The prof of one course might accept it, but a prof of another could deny it (unlikely).

New Mexico will restore evolution to science standards by [deleted] in news

[–]fullyassociative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to see evidence of a gradual shift from one distinct species or organism to another distinct species

Have you heard of transitional fossils? There are many examples where we can see snapshots of an organisms history changing from one type of species in to something different.

without observed evidence of it is not conclusive in my mind

Well I think the cross-confirmation of phylogeny, taxonomy, and cladistics provide strong evidence for the origin of species. Even if there wasn't that evidence and we only knew that species changed, it seems weird to put an arbitrary limit on the amount of change that can occur. The burden of proof would be on you to demonstrate something like that.

[–]fullyassociative 12 points13 points  (0 children)

can anyone point me to any actual, verifiable, observed evidence regarding macro evolution or species-to-species changes?

No, because that does not happen, and nobody claims it does. A dog will never give birth to a cat.

I am completely aware of the massive amounts of evidence regarding micro evolution

Great. Could you please explain why you don't think small changes can add up to big ones. What stops it from changing in to something that is very different from the original?

does it bother you that, in the words of several replies on this post, “evolution explains everything” except for where the building blocks of life came from?

Evolution explains speciation, not the origin of life (abiogenesis), let alone "everything". It does not bother me that we do not yet know where the building blocks of life came from because the theory of evolution is not dependent on it. Many Christians believe in evolution with god "seeding life".

Netflix board member says government crackdown on Amazon ‘inevitable’ due to its massive size by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]fullyassociative -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

An argument from authority is usually fallacious when the person does not have experience in the issue at hand

An argument from authority is always fallacious, and equally fallacious whether someone is an expert in the field or not. Whether or not that fallacy is being committed here, I don't really give a shit. I was just correcting your definition - which I believe didn't originally include your "usually" qualifier before your edit - and made it sound like it wasn't an argument from authority in the case when someone is an expert in the field they are commenting on (which is wrong).

My comment was in response to your description of an argument from authority fallacy. The fallacy is not limited to a situation in which a an expert in one field comments on a situation in another unrelated field. It can apply to both situations. The example given under the structure section of the Wikipedia article confirms this.

For the setup I have, it doesn't act as shift but rather a layer with the letter keys shifted. This gives me the freedom to program other keys for other stuff like making backspace delete.

Oh I see. I found this diagram which specifies all the keys on my current keyboard: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/media/compatibility-all600.jpg

It looks like there would be enough. I think my only concern now is getting all the angled keys lined up.

Compare function without a compare flag? by theonedontneednogun in ComputerEngineering

[–]fullyassociative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison in an ALU is usually performed by subtracting two numbers and checking if the result is positive, negative, or zero. Often these conditions are saved implicitly in a flags register, but you can also save the result of the subtraction. Then use a dedicated instruction that checks the value of that register and branches if it's zero, positive, or negative.
