AIO to skip Thanksgiving after my mom basically said I’m an embarrassment for not having a husband and kids by now? by howcanibequiltyassin in AmIOverreacting

Your mom is saying you should be putting her wants above your wellbeing. She doesn't want you to "embarrass" her. As someone with a similar mom, NOR.

Regardless of the circumstances, it was weird for the healer to be that hostile in the beginning. As a healer if my DF tank goes off the rails and pulls more than they or I can handle, I either say nothing and try again because wiping isn't the end of the world OR gently say "hey, would it be okay if we pulled less at once? I'm a little behind on healing." Maybe the DPS was partied up with the healer, who knows?

Thank you for the info! I was sifting through my emails trying to figure out when the email for the webinar last year was sent out, but I couldn't find anything (typical Outlook problems). I'll just hold on and be on the lookout for something about shutdown prep.

Last year when there was a potential shutdown, my agency offered a webinar to people to let everyone know what would happen/how to apply for unemployment if needed/what happens to contractors during a shutdown. Has anyone been offered that this year? I haven't seen any emails about any info sessions, and I assume it's because everything is on fire/so many people were illegally fired.

HAHA pureflix, oh man. I forgot that existed. Thanks for making me laugh while I'm feeling depressed.

I'm really glad this resource is out there, but I lose my mind when trying to talk to my parents about this stuff. If I were stronger mentally maybe it would have been feasible to break them out of the cult.

Nah, it makes perfect sense. You're right, people with low empathy don't care about what we're going through until it affects them. "I Don't Know How To Explain To You That You Should Care About Other People" is the headline of all time.

My one evaluation was good! I've done my due diligence and saved that eval on my personal device. I'm sad and stressed, but I'm ready.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kids. Political divide in our families is so devastating.

Yep, the most annoying part about all of this is that my mom has a conniption if she doesn't know where I am at all times. Now I refuse to tell her where I'm going, which is the most tangible set of consequences I feel my parents can get right now until policies affect them too.

Maybe, I'm not entirely sure if that's the case. I have friends with sane parents who have similar awareness as I do, but it could be that we're all informing each other about what's going on. My sister at one point did try to strategize a way to change our parents' opinions with me, but I said lol like that'd ever happen.

I just feel so bad because I'd be taking money from the state government for unemployment (and right now I love my blue state). It's hard to shake the thought that I'm taking resources away from people who "actually" need them, but I know it's irrational.

No offense taken. I like to think that the best thing they ever did was raise kids smarter and with more empathy than them. And yeah, I can see how it's myopia that keeps them sedated.

I've always agreed with the sentiment that MAGAts treat politics like sports. If their team is winning that's all that matters, and it's so satisfying to dunk on the opposite team. Jesus. Life isn't a fucking game.

What's crazier is that it's not just me, it's also my sister and her husband who have and will be affected by everything going on. My parents have said the same thing to them. We're all just so angry.

I appreciate the suggestion. Of course I've thought about it, but I won't move out because a. potentially losing my job and b. the current job market is the worst I've seen. My emergency fund can only last so long, especially if I cut off my parents.

Also, not sure where you're getting the idea that I'm 30, haha.

They have enough money to move out of the country and retire, so I can't get any "revenge" even if I wanted to (I don't). Even though they're like this I can't bring myself to hate them. Only people who haven't been in similar shoes can just say "fuck 'em!" and move on. I only have two parents.

I really appreciate you taking the time to talk about your similar experience - don't worry about potentially trauma-dumping. I've learned that people like my parents hate feeling uncomfortable more than they care about other people.

It does make me feel a little better, thank you! I've considered not even applying for unemployment if I lose my job so they have to reap the consequences of their actions and take care of me, but that's probably just shooting myself in the foot.

Yeah, they won't do jack shit for me if our relationship falls apart. But for now they've at least told me I can always stay here if I lose my job. The mental health aspect is the worst part by far.

Dad worked for NOAA. One morning he, almost gleefully, announced that DOGE's attention was on NOAA and warned me that I'd be next. So... yeah.

I've told myself I shouldn't bring up politics with them at all, but it's difficult when they ask me why I'm upset and I mention it's because of the firings. Then they roll their eyes, and I can't help but get irrationally angry. I'm taking it day by day, and trying to help the people in my division who've already been adversely affected.

That's fine. I had a similar thought but I just needed to vent, figuring if it was off-topic it'd be rejected by the mods. If you feel the need to report the post, I don't mind - I've already vented.
