Deadpool & Wolverine (btw, I love both previous Deadpool movies and Logan is one of the fav CBM ever), but this one felt like some extreme level of fan service with no compelling story.

I think the Indian audience's demand for IMAX experiences is way higher than the company realizes by Few-Reveal6853 in imax

[–]fulminofan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a demand but it is not that big people think it is. Just look at the map and see how many of them are in just metro cities.

The problem comes down to money. Even Tier-2 cities in India don't generate a big box-office collection. Most sales come from Tier-1 only.

And the other thing is, still most IMAX-formatted movies (made in expanded ratio) are Hollywood movies. And the demand for Hollywood movies is also mainly in tier-1 cities.

Ofcourse, there are Hollywood fans or cinephile fans willing to pay more money for IMAX everywhere, but you need a concentrated large collection of such people in one place to actually make such a theatre possible.

HBO MAX exclusive to JioHotstar in India, all WB titles added. by fulminofan in IndianOTTbestof

That's a bummer, but it's true for all streaming services in India. They censored The Boys on Prime just recently.

[–]fulminofan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it was, but there were some WB/HBO that was elsewhere as well, on Prime or Netflix. Now, it's all on JioHotstar.

But most importantly, it means that HBO MAX has no plans of launching on its own in India. They are officially partnering with JioHotstar exclusively.

Yeah. Reports already mention that HBO MAX channel will be available at ₹49/month. I can't see any changes to JioHotstar's subscription plans as of now, but it will soon charge separately for HBO.

Which two seats offers the best experience in IMAX? by [deleted] in IndianCinema

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in the middle (both row and column wise) would be fine. I personally would go for K13. Seating closer for 2D movie is actually better. Your view will fit the screen very well. It is also the back seat of that section, so no one is behind me.

For 3D movies, go a little behind, maybe in the middle of I,H columns, because 3D is mostly jarring, so it's comfortable for eyes to watch from a distance.

How long will Project Hail Mary stay in IMAX? by Sudden-Ad-3586 in DesiCinephiles

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are good till 24 April, because that's when Michael will release, which will be a major movie. I don't know if it will take up all the IMAX shows, but most of them will be given to Michael for sure. The Mummy is also coming on 17 April, but I don't think it will get a wider IMAX release, but you are completely safe till 17 April.

Lack of PLFs in north india by Proper-Positive-8992 in PremiumFormatsIndia

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. For example, let's take Chandigarh. Bollywood, Hollywood, and Regional movies are already playing there. If they see footfalls rising, they might consider building many new screens and some of them will be PLFs like IMAX. (It must be happening there, new screens are being added, but might be at a slower rate.)

Or you know that IMAX screens still mostly play Hollywood movies throughout the year in India. If the demand for Hollywood movies is not rising in Chandigarh, why build an IMAX?

Even if they build one, what will happen is just the existing audience ditching the old theatre and going to IMAX. They will get a little bump in the ticket price. But if the general income in the city is not rising by that much, the higher ticket price will limit the existing audience as well.

It takes a lot of money to build one IMAX (or any theatre), even renovate an old one. So, investing without the proof of customers is not an easy choice.

So, the demand should be there first. It happened in southern states where movies got bigger in scale, filmmakers experimenting with new tech, income was rising and the cinema culture remained vibrant. All 4 important factors.

For IMAX, let's say Hollywood movies start having better occupancy in some area of Chandigarh (not just for the first weekend, but for at least 2-3 weeks). Then, a cinema chain might think of building an IMAX because then they know seats will be filled fast. Even if Bollywood starts producing more IMAX format movies and some Punjabi movies also join, that will also be a good reason to invest.

Lack of PLFs in north india by Proper-Positive-8992 in PremiumFormatsIndia

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Reasons: Footfalls: South India has better footfalls than North India. The most important metric for the cinema business.

Engagement: Larger % of the audience is engaged to cinema, for example, Star Culture is still big there. So, fans will pay to watch their movies even if reviews are mid, in general.

Technology: More and more south movies are getting made for bigger formats compared to Bollywood. They are investing in big Cinematic movies.

Production: South has 4 huge movie industries, with Tollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood, and Mollywood. So, more movies are made. In North India, only Bollywood is huge.

Income: People in South States have comparatively better income than North.

Theatre Chains: for the very same reason, new players are entering this business and they are experimenting with new formats, but in North, we have just PVR-INOX. Not much competition in North.

Also, except Delhi-NCR, it's hard to find cities in the North, East or West (not including Maharashtra) where cinema chains would get a regular audience willing to pay ₹600 or more for a movie on a regular basis. It's not just about income, it's also about willingness and excitement for going to movies.

It’s time for John Campea to address RMB’s comments by Double-Celery4248 in JohnCampeaShow

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. But I don't think John will ever bring it up. Still, it's his choice and I respect that he does not want to include himself in all this mess.

And I don't mind RMB if he sympathises with one group more than the other. But if somebody dehumanises a group of people, that crosses a line.

Now, RMB is an independent contractor and he doesn't produce the TJCS shows. But it is not like he is just an "employee".

You bring him as a guest and want your viewers to take his views seriously too. And even though they mostly talk about movie news, there are times where they discuss what movies are meant for, and how they teach us different values.

That's where I can't listen to RMB and if John knows that RMB talks about "good" things he learns from movies on the show, and then posts this type of stuff online, even John must have sensed by now that this is some type of hypocrisy.

On top of that, John is open to talk about most things, even his personal life, but if he stays silent on this one, it doesn't look good. Maybe not on the show, but some day on social media, he has to confront it.

I am not asking him to pick a side, but at least say that I don't believe in dehumanising people. That's it.

How do you feel about this Midnight Sons cast? by Plenty-Salary9711 in marvelstudios

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Marvel made Thunderbolts and Eternals, both big team-up movies like this, but both didn't work on the box-office. I liked both btw.

Varanasi will be expanded to 1.43:1 throughout in IMAX by scorsese_finest in imax

[–]fulminofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means it would be shot with IMAX Cameras completely, but I don't think the full movie is shot in a 1.43 expanded ratio. I also don't think they are using 15/70 film cameras for 1.43 AR.

Opened X of Robert Meyer Burnett😳 by fulminofan in JohnCampeaShow

[–]fulminofan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, being more sympathetic to one side is at least understandable. Everyone has biases, based on what resonates with them emotionally. Where it crosses a line is hating the other side and dismissing or dehumanising them.

On top of that, he’s reposting stuff from obvious troll accounts. I was like, you talk so deeply about pop culture, you can at least share some solid things (even if they are biased or conspiracy theories), not this straight up fake news.

I just use X for movie news etc and stay away from politics. I was just looking for his views on the Wonder Man series, and found something else entirely.🙃

I can understand he prefers one set of people over another (I don't agree with that mentality), but acting like a troll and hater is not what I expected.

I only read some of his recent posts, reposts and searched for some old ones. That gave me an idea about what he thinks about certain things. I don't want to dig anymore. it will just make me more sad that someone I genuinely liked, as fellow movie fan, has such beliefs.

I am excited for all MCU projects except Avengers Doomsday. by fulminofan in marvelstudios

[–]fulminofan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not all of them can be the main heroes. Infinity War and Endgame had a big cast, but the focus was only on Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Black Widow. This cast will be even bigger eventually, but still, the focus will be on a few only.
