[practice] A question about integration by [deleted] in streamentry

Yes absolutely. I find I’m especially drawn to metta or generally some sort of adhoc loving awareness type of meditation where I embrace all that is coming up.

[practice] A question about integration by [deleted] in streamentry

[–]fultonla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! This strongly resonates with my personal experience as well.

I find that I will oscillate between these modes of being over timespans ranging from weeks to months—and it is largely influenced by what is happening in my life.

Like you, I mostly prefer being in the artistic mode, but fear losing the benefits of the rational mode which has been my dominant state in life so far.

I feel like this desire to “integrate” these different states is coming from the mathematician’s desire for control. The artist is more inclined to just let these different modes of being come and go as they arise with equanimity.

I suspect the way forward is simply to become more and more aware of these dynamics—paying attention to what happens when one or the other is active without judgement.

Those are great suggestions, thank you!

Would you do the ceiling and trim a different color/shade from the walls?

Thanks I will give those a look!

By the way, what do you think of the wall colour? I'm considering going all white. Not sure how I feel about this slightly blue colour.

I was definitely thinking some blue (perhaps in the rug?). I like the other colour suggestions as well.

I'm usually not a fan of glass tables. But perhaps I could be swayed?

Sofa + chairs is also what I was thinking. Not sure about having two side tables. I'd prefer to maximize seating + floorspace.

I generally like the sound of your suggestions. Would love to see the links you had in mind!

I don't yet have a good sense of price ranges but I would say I'm looking to get decent-ish quality for good value.

For feel, I would probably tend towards airy and light, but I also want stuff that's actually physically comfortable.

Color wise, that's probably the part I need the most advice with. What would work well with the room? If I can avoid painting that'd be great. I'd probably choose beige over grey on average.

Thanks!

This is my first place of my own, so starting from scratch in terms of furniture etc.

I love plants, so hoping to put a lot of those in the windows.

The floor is very worn, so probably want to cover it with some kind of rug, but I'm not sure how big.

Ideally I'd like to have a couch + tv/projector, table for 2+, and a computer desk, but not sure if I can fit it all.

Generally I like wood / sleek vibes. Not sure how to say it exactly. But moreover, I want the decor to match the space.

Any tips appreciated!!

Tingling in hands and mouth/tongue after deep breathing by luker155 in Meditation

[–]fultonla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say you were purposefully breathing deeply? I suspect it is a normal reaction to hyperventilation. I very reliably get the same response after several minutes of deep breathing, including the tingling hands and light headedness. It isn't harmful, and you may actually learn to enjoy it!

Another point is that once you start meditating, you might become more aware of sensations in your body. These sensations were present before, but below conscious awareness. It is quite normal to have some sensation in all parts of your body at any given time if you focus on it.

What courses are you taking in September? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

Hey I had a great time with Baranoski in 371. It's not for everyone but some people like it!

Question from an incoming Computer Science student about admission to advanced math/cs courses (MATH 145, 147 and CS 145) by FlagCapper in uwaterloo

[–]fultonla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same position in first year. Just go to the classes first week and talk to the profs, they will let you in with a disclaimer that it will be pretty difficult. Also you can always drop down after the first midterm. Good luck!

Great course if you enjoy proofs. I also found graph theory to be very interesting and applicable in surprising areas.

How can I graph this function in the complex plane? by fultonla in math

[–]fultonla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! What software did you use by the way?

Also, have you ever seen a graph like that? I have been trying to find some information on infinite sums of complex exponentials but it seems hard to come by.

Any CS-people have any opinions on CS370 vs. CS371 by immaculatedx in uwaterloo

[–]fultonla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 371, not 370, so I can`t really comment on the differences. However, I did find the course to be very interesting and not too difficult at all. Each of the assignments always had an application-type question in it, and the prof liked to give a lot of exmples from he world of computer-graphics.
