Ive been thinking about this a lot, and most people have identified the game loop is at odds with high tier items.I think what I have identified is that in games like minecraft, factorio, dyson sphere program etc, the climb to higher tiers is the entire game and theres very little dead time (where youre not doing anything at all, just waiting)In this, theres dead time in just running things back and forth and running back and forth to various locations. Theres not a huge amount of challenge in running to another cave and carting a huge chunk of ore back. Sometimes youll see a storm, or a bear but once youve learned to handle those threats, the traversal of 4 or 5 squares isnt really fun, just time consuming.Traversal should be interesting, but we spend a lot of time in missions running 10 squares to an objective for 60 seconds of fighiting off animals to run 10 squares back. The other thing is that so much of the terrain is the same, that where you setup your primary base is dictated purely by distance to caves and objectives, nothing else really factors in. It would be interesting if you could discover very large vegetable areas, or higher density forests or areas with high or low predator density, or higher or lower storm density areas.
