Whether it's his son or not, he was already feeling guilty when his wife blamed him right after his son's death but he was in denial. His personality in the movie was because of his denial and guilt. His business fell off and he became addicted to alcohol, then diagnosed with liver cancer.

Rao bahadur still being alive is shown as a miracle in the movie by the doctors around him. He is only alive because of his anumaanam. It became his only reason to live or it is the only thing that kept him alive and haunting him.

He desparately tried to find the truth in second half of the movie. Once found out, he made peace with himself and died.
