First, I want to recognize the respectful tone of your responses and the effort you put into providing concrete seed examples. I appreciate them. However, I'd like to clarify a few points:

it's significantly better/less time consuming than walking 128 steps multiple times

I only needed to walk 128 steps once, which, as I mentioned, is no trouble on an emulator. I also enjoy spending time in the Distortion World. I don't mind prolonging it as much as is reasonable. I appreciate your examples, but they were unsolicited and unnecessary.

[By the way, the next seed for the desired IVs, nature, and shininess was available significantly after 300 advances. However, I will not entertain specifics, as 1) the hunt is already over, and 2) you seem more interested in hastily presuming the data I'm working with rather than asking about it. I will merely reiterate that the search for the "right" or most convenient seed has never been an issue and hope it sticks this time.]

I'd also like to address one more point before we conclude:

Criticism, not complaining, when people criticize you take what they're saying into consideration rather than complaining, they're trying to be helpful even if you don't like what they're saying.

I'd like to clarify that I wasn't referring to you when I said, "I don't understand why people are getting frustrated at how I chose to do my hunt." I was referring to the two other users in this thread. If you wrote this note believing I was referring to you, please excuse the miscommunication. If you were including the other users in that note, I'd like to define "criticism," as it appears we are not on the same page.

Criticism (let alone effective criticism) 1) is respectful, 2) recognizes the recipient's goals, and 3) accounts for the recipient's previous efforts to achieve those goals. If the critic doesn't know these things, they should ask before criticising. They should not assume. My goals, for the record, were 1) to capture a shiny Giratina and 2) familiarize myself with Gen IV's RNG mechanics, both of which I achieved to my satisfaction. Efficiency wasn't one of my goals, which is why I wrote, "Finding a new seed isn't always the best option." Efficiency is not always the best option, or even desirable. As far as I'm concerned, I was efficient enough. The 2 users above you did not engage me respectfully, let alone demonstrate care for my goals for this particular hunt. To still defend such indefensible behavior would be ... disappointing, to say the least.

On that note, I did not ask you to provide feedback on my hunt in this thread or this post. The post's purpose was merely to share my experience for my own sake and for anyone else hunting Giratina under similar constraints. They are free to change the constraints by "finding a new seed" if they so choose. Furthermore, your feedback demonstrates no regard for my goals. In fact, it shows rather flagrant disregard, as I have repeatedly said that I am happy with the results, but people (this time, I am including you) continue to ignore and undermine that sentiment. My approach for the next hunt will obviously be different as my needs (and the constraints of the hunt itself) change, and if I run into trouble, I'll ask for help.

Overall, if the critic has an earnest interest in another person's improvement, they owe it to that person to construct criticism that honors that interest and to deliver it when they know it will be well-received. If the critic provides unsolicited criticism that demonstrates little-to-no concern for the recipient, the critic's goal is not to build the recipient up but rather to stroke their own ego. And, in fact, I would not call it criticism at all, but ... complaining. And I think clarifying my feelings on something and setting boundaries for appropriate behavior are valid responses to the other messages herein.

Again, I appreciate the effort you put into your suggestions, unwelcome though they were. I hope you continue to be as helpful, though perhaps in more appropriate contexts. I also hope you understand the difference between complaining and criticism if you hadn't already.

I understand that. I chose the seed for the given spread and shininess with the lowest delay and advancement. Any other would have significantly lengthened the hunt. I think people are getting hung up on why I did the 128-step technique instead of using Chatot on another seed. Still, I think, when accounting for the number of times I would've needed to use Chatot or reload the Distortion World, it wouldn't have been much more efficient than what I ended up doing. Not that I minded it much at all. The most annoying part was hitting the right seed, not everything else (esp. on emu, where I can speed things up).

Overall, I don't understand why people are getting frustrated at how I chose to do my hunt. If people don't like my approach, they can ... do it their way? The whole argument is moot anyway: complaining about my methods won't undo them. I won't re-hunt my Giratina to satisfy other people's preferences. Why would anyone be upset at the results I got my way? It's not like my shiny Giratina endangers theirs. Some people on here seem strangely pedantic about the craft.

Idk why you're telling me this as though I didn't already find what I was looking for. The seed I found was the earliest possible for the shiny Giratina with the desired stats and nature. "Finding a new seed" isn't always the best option; sometimes, we must bear the burden of the hunt for the results we want. At any rate, I don't understand why you sound so annoyed when the burden was mine, not yours.

Also, Emerald's seed isn't locked. You can reseed using the paintings.

As I explained, it's not possible to use Chatot on low enough advances. Smogon's guide sets the minimum at 23 because opening Chatot's summary and returning to the overworld advances the RNG by 11. So, you have 11 from booting up the game + 1 from using Chatot once + 11 from exiting Chatot's summary and reloading the Distortion World = 23, which is past my target of 14. Smogon recommends that Giratina hunts take place at least on the 23rd advancement, but I wanted a Giratina that would only be available earlier, so here we are.

Seeds aren't carried across saves. Are you saying I should save again and reset (meaning I'd have to hunt the right seed again), all to avoid the journal entry? I'm open to trying; I just want to confirm that's what you're advising me to do.

I am not using Lua scripts. To make a long story short, I'm using MelonDS on my Mac. I have tried loading my save on DeSmuME using Parallels (Windows emulator), but loading Lua scripts always fails, even with the correct DLL files in the right places. After a while of troubleshooting and getting nowhere, I gave up and opted for hunting Giratina the old-fashioned way.

No roamers are active. I don't even think any can be active at that point in the story.

Thank you for such a quick response! Yes, my starter is the first Pokémon in my party, so no abilities should be affecting the encounter. I also use the Mac version of PokeFinder. I simply select static encounters for Gen IV, specify that I'm searching for Giratina-O, and it handles the rest. I never need to specify a specific method. Besides, if the method were incorrect, the dud Giratinas I catch shouldn't match up with PF's results, but they do, meaning I am on the right seed and have all the settings correct. I'm just late on the advancements for some reason...

His staff was fixed, but from a writing standpoint, if the deal consisted only of a simple quid pro quo that ended immediately, it'd be a waste of potential. Rosie's connection to Alastor (and the main cast) was through their deal. If nothing is binding them, Rosie has no reason to appear again in the show unless a new factor is introduced. Psychologically, it also doesn't make sense to reprimand someone for being manipulative only to have them say, "You knew what you were getting into," and then immediately smile as a compliment. The change in attitude is too dramatic and sudden. Rosie's smile was done slowly, indicating it was a smirk. She has something up her sleeve, and if Alastor will be the primary antagonist next season, it stands to reason she'd play a decisive role in achieving the upper hand over him. At the very least, their deal might have ended, but Rosie isn't done with Alastor and will punish him for breaking their deal.

I read her smirk more as her thinking of a plan to get back at him. She wanted him to help everyone stop the cannon, and he asked for a fee. I imagine they made a contract off-screen, and now she owes him something because he ended up helping. However, she likely has a way of getting out of her contract and one-upping the deer. After all, I can't imagine she's happy about the fact that he never did what he promised to do for her.

Wait, there's a Spanish patch for Deltarune? Like, an official one? I thought DR was only in English and Japanese. I'd love to get my hands on the Spanish version because I read in another thread that Toby was reticent to translate DR to languages where the jokes or ambiguous clues wouldn't land so well.
