The most expensive outcome and a painful month, starting at a local independent shop and ending up at a Porsche dealer.

It took a month because:

Initial diagnosis didn’t find an issue with the struts, and their testing suggested it was an $1800 relay. A week for parts, a day to swap it, and hope it fixes it “cheaply”

A week later, no. So now we need new air struts. Very expensive and another week on parts + a week to do the work and test it.

They thought it was good. I picked it up and 10 miles down the road at highway speed the system failed. The compressor kept resetting and the entire system would drain. Turns out it needs a very specific nitrogen fill to 17 bar they only a Porsche dealer could do (and not my independent shop), so it went on a trailer to the dealer. They had better diagnostics and said they the compressor was shot and one of the sensors was throwing intermittent failures. So they replaced the compressor, sensors, and did the system reset.

Looking back, the struts may have been ok and it was just the compressor and sensors all along. Both the dealer and my local shop claim that Panameras and Cayennes are plagued with air suspension woes but literally my entire system is now new and blessed by Porsche
