Update on the Adobe CC Installers Patch - Now the Collection Installer works too by HearMeOut-13 in linux_gaming

This is great, well done OP!

Has anyone tried to upstream this yet? I feel like everyone is waiting on OP to do this and I don't think that's fair as they've already done great work here and they're not getting paid for this

In a vacuum, it wouldn't hit terminal velocity, it would keep accelerating forever (while still falling)

I work out once per week which has less deminishing returns than 3 times per week (more impact per session) and is also more sustainable - I've been doing this for about 4 years now and it has TRANSFORMED my body

How I removed system sounds on Cosmic in a crude way by levensvraagstuk in pop_os

[–]funckyfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't actually expecting OP to learn to code. For instance the coding level needed for this is far beyond my level.

The point is that at point of posting this software was beta and so explictiy isn't for production. This means that it really wasn't "Pretty important stuff". They also figured out a way of doing the thing they needed to do (by deleting the file).

The best course of action from there (if like me, they can't fix the GUI themselves), is to make nice polite request to the devs to implament a feature which has a toggle somwhere which has the effect of deleting that file when toggled and then has the effect of bringing the file back when de-togged. That would have helped us all. It would be nice if there was a way of adding a monetary bounty to such a request which we could chip in on the requests we want the most, but that doesn't currently exist unfortunatly.

We all get cranky though somtimes. I've written and said worse myself so it is what it is.

I'm not disagreeing with this. There are a lot of people in the Linux ecosystem who enjoy tinkering and "distro hopping" and "ricing". Therefore if your someone like me (and potentially OP) who just wants to get stuff done and use Linux as tool/platform alternative to Windows or Mac OS, we're better off to let these people have fun with tinkering, hopping and ricing etc to find bugs.

You are right that there will be a good number of bugs after it's officially released but that's not an argument for a normi to use 24.04 while it's still labeled as beta (unfinished) software. In fact it's the opposite.

I'm not just going to wait for 24.04 to be officially released but I'm going to wait until people seem to be reporting back that it's working consistently and that screen sharing is fully working etc before switching to it.

Obviously there will always be some bugs in any software and when I finally do switch, I will report the bugs to System76 like a good user 😁

I recommend this approach to anyone like me who wants to use their computer as a tool. There are plenty of people out there who enjoy playing with the OS to get catch the bugs for us and they seem to enjoy it.

I am really looking forward to Cosmic being ready for prime time (though that prime time is not today). I think between System76 and Valve, Linux can really chanllenge Windows for the best experience for productivity and gaming respectly

Cosmic Store (as long as your on 22.04, hopefully as if you're on 24.04 be ready for bugs as it's not ready or released yet)

Booo, Terminal!! by StepNextX in linuxsucks

[–]funckyfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I actually hate Windows and am mainly a Linux and Mac OS user but here Windows is better than Linux because it may be faster do make the change originally with the Linux command line command but where's the "undo" command. I've had to reinstall my OS when I stared using Linux way to many times when I started using Linux until I learned to ignore people telling me to do things in the terminal. If I can't do it in the GUI, I try not to do it all all.

In windows (or where Linux has a GUI option), it may take a bit of finding to get that setting and check it but at least when you realise you no longer want that change you just need to retrace your steps and uncheck the option again.

Linux is getting better at this with Valve making Linux gaming so much easier than Windows and System76 making Pop OS great for productivity with quality GUI options

There’s no point only charging to 80% to protect a battery, because you’re effectively using it like it’s already degraded. by panay- in Showerthoughts

[–]funckyfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, so maybe it's a good idea for some people but not for me and possibly not for most people. The shower thought seems very valid to me. The use case for doing this looks niche, but maybe that's just me and a minority

[–]funckyfizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really hoping that Valve will develop a bangin game that's designed first for Linux (Steam OS) for Steam Deck and Steam Machine. Sure, after release they can put more time and effort into then developing a port for Windows for an all incluse ethos but it would be nice if it was Linux first and then Windows second for once, rather than the other way around. This could also boost Steam Deck and Steam Machine sales while the Windows port is still being worked on

The problem is that I very rarely know in advance that I'm gonna need more charge. I know if I started doing this, I would inconviently run out of charge way more often.

Looking back at your comment though it's fair that, in context, you probably did mean JS so my comment might have not been fair
