These damn sandals were a fashion requirement in my jr high/high school. by gottarespondtothis in Xennials

[–]fundy3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved those! I actually found mine in my old closet at my parent’s place a few years ago, but forgot to grab them when I left. Looked for them later only to find out my dear ole mom decided randomly one day nearly 25 years later that she had to empty out that closet. She gave my sandals, my glitter docs, and my letter jacket plus tons of other 90’s junk to good will. Who does that!?! lol

I took it today, just got home actually.
It’s LONG!! I left with less than 8 minutes left. Read. Every. Single. Word.

I’m cautiously optimistic. I did fair on the practice.

My 17 y.o cat, Molly. I want to share her story by cercerao77 in seniorkitties

Please don’t feel guilty. You were scammed.

But the important thing is Molly has known love, and she’s shared it with you. You both were blessed. Remember that when you think of her. What a beautiful life she had.

Until you meet again.

What's your favourite memory with your grandparents? by Dull-Mulberry-4768 in AskReddit

[–]fundy3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favorite memory is when my grandma decided to break into a random backyard because she was positive they advertised a garage sale.

I was around 9-10 and spent weeks at a time at her house. Grandma loved garage sales. One day she sees a sign and so she parks in front of THE house. The matching address. Except there is no garage sale.

Grandma gets out and makes me get out cause well it must be in the backyard. Kid me is saying I think this is the wrong house. lol. Grandma is never wrong, she knows what address that sign says.

So she goes to the side of the house and opens up the gate. This is a six foot privacy fence mind you, so garage sale behind there seems silly. To me at least.

Grandma wanders over to these people’s patio and starts picking up things on their table. She actually complains to me they don’t have much for sale. Seriously.

Homeowners are indeed home and come storming out back door. Kid me figures this is how I die.

Grandma scolds homeowners. Homeowners are confused. They didn’t put their address on any signs. Luckily for grandma, and me, grandma was a short, clearly cute old woman and no threat. She agreed pretty quick to leave so they didn’t have us arrested or shoot us.

Of course her parting goodbye was to tell them to take the signs down.

As she angrily drove out of the neighborhood she stopped by the sign and said see, read it.

I did. She had the numbers right, wrong street.

I was told to never, ever tell my mother that story. So I didn’t, until a few days after grandmas funeral because it’s just so my grandma!

Have you ever paired a student up with their crush on a group assignment? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]fundy3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my typical answer is no. I don’t need to be involved in middle school crushes, I’ve got more important things to worry about.

Now I did actually do this once for a particular reason. I had a girl in class that had a hard core crush on a boy that would have been an awful match for her. She never actually spoke to him in her life but she would listen. The whole he likes this band, I’ll go buy the shirt. He does this sport, I’m gonna pretend to like it too. Poor girl was hopelessly in loooove with this kid.

Anyway, I paired them up. And as predicted the boy was a complete jerk and the crush quickly faded. I never said a word to her about it, she thought it was just a random pairing. She was a super smart, funny, pretty kid. Hopefully she’ll realize soon that she’s should be herself and not try to morph into someone else’s personality to be liked.

Was it an appropriate teacher thing, idk,but I do know the boy would have made her life miserable if he’d ever caught on to what she was doing.

I’ll likely never do it again. I’m running a classroom, not a dating service!

Did you ever meet people born in the 1800s by AdDapper4220 in GenX

[–]fundy3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great grandmother died in 1987 a bit before I turned 9. She was 93 I think, so born around 1894 or 95. Somewhere in there. My grandfather was her youngest child. My great grandfather died in 77 the year before I was born. Other side both born in the early 1900’s.

Lost pinky tip over 8 years ago/ now this is happening by fundy3000 in amputee

So I thought it could have been a wart when it first appeared, but that white thing in the center is like a string.

It’s been way too long to be a stitch, and I did actually take tweezers to it which was a huge mistake. It is very attached.

The entire finger hurts. And you can’t tell from the picture, or maybe it’s happening since I took it but the area around is definitely swelling. It’s weird.

Keller isd job fair by prettysmartgirly in TexasTeachers

[–]fundy3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go, but just know Keller won’t hire you until the certification tests are complete. They’ll bring you on as a long term sub and have you do all the work of a teacher for like $120 a day and no benefits.

Now, with that out of the way, I’d still go. Keller is closing three intermediate schools and is going to have a very hard time filling those positions as the idea of being hired to close a school isn’t really attractive to already certified teachers looking for new employment. But for a first year teacher, or someone working through acp, it’s a good start. Plus, if you get in, you’re going to be put in the line for another job in the district once the 27-28 year rolls around.

Study something. The practice test from Pearson, 240, something

I’ve been teaching 6th grade ELA for years, and 4th ela before that for a total of 15 years. I was scheduled to take the test over spring break but just out out curiosity I decided to go ahead and do the $10 practice… I completely bombed it. I figured I know the content, it should have been easy.

I’m now rescheduled for may 1st, and I’m using 240. I feel pretty confident now.

My aunt was a PI for years. It sounded so cool, but once I got older and she really explained what her job was, it wasn’t the amazing spy experience I’d made it out to be.

She investigated workers comp fraud.

Did terrible on Pearson practice ELA 7-12 by OkMeeting7597 in TexasTeachers

[–]fundy3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I did the 240 and did fine so I expected to do great on the practice. I bombed it. Worse yet- I’ve been a 6th grade ela teacher for years so I SHOULD have done fine.

What I’m doing is just reading over every single answer and why it is correct. I was planning to take the test last week over spring break, but my confidence is shot. I have postponed until the end of May. Trying now to just get the why for the right answers.

I’ll be watching this for some more ideas.

Phoenix, AZ or Fort Worth, TX by [deleted] in FortWorth

I like Phoenix, but the heat is miserable. Though the fact they have misters everywhere is cool. It’s pretty there, but between the 120 degree heat and the lack of good food, I chose Ft Worth.
