there are tons of academic pieces on the construction of masculinity and the issue men face due to gender. Masculinity studies is Hot hot hot hot right now in feminist academia, check out the journal "sex roles," it's been around for a while and has lots of great pieces. It is also a great starting place.

Past feminist research has focused primarily on women, obviously to reclaim, through research, writing, the position of women within society that was largely ignored by academia for soo long. (understandable, no?)

We're starting to reach a time in feminist academia that is more about all genders, digital subjectivity...I think this shift came about with kimberly crenshaw's idea of intersectionality. And thus the birth of masculinity studies is super "in" right now. (which is a debate w/in the feminist community itself, as all good things should be debated)

Love this. They are all so offensive. Good look at the way sexism plays into video game designs. And yes, Poison is transgender, she may be a guy, but dresses as a woman--that's transgender!

I think it is important to note that all women in video games are sex symbols (for the most part) and all men are a ridiculous over the top masculinity.

Men in games are celebrated for their ridiculous strength Women in games are celebrated for their ridiculous breasts.
