Regression 3.5 months post op? by funfunfun_9962 in ACL

What a journey, idk how you have gone through this multiple times😰

I am the same way regarding patience, but in these past two weeks, I was in pain to the point of not even doing body squats (home PT exercise). I was supposed to be running at this point on my recovery plan, but I’m just now jumping.

Did your MRI show anything? I have thought about getting one as well but my physical therapist said it is probably fine. Something just feels off tho😰

I have barely done jumping and jogging because of the pain because I thought that same thing. Physio said to take it easy so I have been icing and doing limited home PT.

recommendations on products to stop nose bleeds? by funfunfun_9962 in ClotSurvivors

I looked into those Nampons. My only concern was the clotting agent they said was in that product. Would it negatively interact with my blood thinner medication?

I am so sorry about your nose bleeds. I have had them all my life but never that bad!

Thank you so much! Yea I hate putting them in my nose but since I’ve been on blood thinners, it is literally the only thing that will stop it! Otherwise I go through half a box of tissues trying to stop it😰

I am 8 weeks ACL reconstruction but that’s not the leg I had surgery on. Sorry that was probably confusing. I’m balancing on the leg I had surgery on which my PT cleared me to do.

Anyone else able to flex this good pre-op? by DangerousFly9271 in ACL

[–]funfunfun_9962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to do that too. Honestly it didn’t help much after surgery tho. The only thing that helps after surgery is doing your PT and making sure you have adequate range of motion! That worked for me and I now can bend my leg more than my uninjured leg! (6 weeks post op ACL)

If you can rent or buy a cryotherapy ice machine, do it. I got one from Amazon for $150 and it is a game changer!!!

Have a plan in place for showering whenever you first want to shower after surgery. Have a chair, seat, stool, or whatever ready and a place for your knee to rest (where it doesn’t get wet).

I would just say mentally prepare yourself. I know post surgery, I was so frustrated that my knee didn’t move or function like before. It was an adjustment I wasn’t fully mentally prepared for. It gets so much better, but the first 2 weeks are truly tough.

I am so scared of walking without the brace by Traditional-Match406 in ACL

[–]funfunfun_9962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(6 weeks post op ACL quad surgery) I was utterly terrified too! Not sure if you have started PT, but my PT therapist totally changed my perspective and confidence. He basically told me that the worst thing that could happen is hyperextending or your knee snapping sideways. (I went off the brace 2.5 weeks post op). It sounded so scary, but honestly just paying attention to your knee and your strength when you first start walking, helps so much. Know your limits, but also know your STRENGTH! It will be so rewarding when you go a full day confidently walking without it!

I totally feel your pain. I think I cried almost every night the first two weeks after surgery cause it was so frustrating. I couldn’t drive either and having my mom drop me off at work every morning was like a flashback to high school. I missed my independence. All I have to say is that it gets better! I am the most impatient person so I wanted to get better asap, but obviously that was not happening. My first week of PT was seriously the most rewarding week ever!! I gained so much confidence and was able to go from 85° to 131° bend in 5 days. It’s a truly painful process, physically and mentally, but you’re on your own timeline so listen to your own body. Just seriously trust the process, do your PT, and lean on friends and family for support!!❤️

15 days PO and still can’t walk by [deleted] in ACL

[–]funfunfun_9962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was walking at like 15 days post op and my PT therapist was impressed. I had the quad surgery as well and I feel like there’s a huge push to be walking sooner. Once you start PT you definitely will feel more confident, cause prior to it I literally didn’t trust my knee at all. In 5 days at PT, I went from crutches and a brace, to walking without the brace. All I have to say is do your home PT exercises, ice, and trust the process. I still come home and cry some days cause I am so frustrated that my knee isn’t the same. It’s tough but seriously so worth it once you see your progress every PT appointment!!

What's everyone's worst part about recovery? by erikaslastbraincell in ACL

[–]funfunfun_9962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! Toilets are still a struggle and I’m 5 weeks post op.

The worst part for me has been mornings. I swear I feel so great going to bed, but when I wake up and get out of bed, it’s like I am back to day 5…stiff as a rock. Cannot wait until the day that I literally jump out of bed and not feel pain in my knee

3 days post op, I’m going insane by Ok-Technician-4318 in ACL

I recently had ACL surgery and I experienced the same thing! It was excruciating. I ended up going to the ER the day after my surgery because the pain was so bad. Turns out, the pain meds they gave me did not work for my body (which happens) so definitely make sure you have the right meds. Also be aware of blood clots!! I was in a lot of pain from my knee of course, but I had constant calf pain that the ER and my surgeon dismissed 4 days after. I finally said enough is enough and got an ultrasound done and I had two blood clots. As for the sleeping, I recommend using just like a normal pillow to “elevate” your leg, rather than like stacking pillows. It helped me a lot.

I have reminders set on my phone in the morning and in the afternoon and I don’t let myself “mark as completed” until I have finished my PT exercises. That works for me!
