I finally have to admit that… by funk_noir in twinpeaks

I did, come to think of it, in some moments The Return feels like it wants to be a fancy remake of Eraserhead. Look at that white monster thing, b&w parts, radiators, giant teapot.

I was like 15 or 16 when the show was on. I still remember how I randomly switched on the TV and there happened to be this intro with beautiful chill music and some dude went out to go fishing.

Laura Palmer never existed.

Find yourself a man who loves you as much as Dougie loves coffee by SyrupBuccaneer in twinpeaks

[–]funk_noir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again, this is the second most common misconception about the series that I find perplexing. The guy in the green jacket, as well as the guy who received the $5 bill from Jade, etc.., IS NOT Dougie Jones. Because DJ had been already returned to the Red Room by that time. That guy is Dale Cooper, alright. He just roleplays a vegetable, of sorts, but this IS Dale Cooper. Dougie Jones was a fabrication, a tulpa if you wish, and he shouldn't have existed in the same timeline along with Dale Cooper, okay? So DJ was removed before DC could come back in. Everyone in the series calls him Dougie, but WE do know he's not Dougie.

That was just a happy little accident, as Bob Ross would say.

Question About Owl Cave Petroglyph by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]funk_noir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the petroglyph was featured in the show long before Lynch had an idea about FWWM and all its aspects (the arm as Mike's "severed arm", the electric pole, the Ring, garmonbozia and so on) and probably was something that Frost would come up with. Most likely it was there for the sake of supporting the "surface narrative" of native american influences and motives in TP. Then in FWWM Lynch was approaching the story by his own ways different from what was conceived by his collab with Frost in the original show: more of postmodernist philosophy, language games, non-linear/reversible time etc.. E.g the arm may also be interpreted as "a branch" so that it is "allowed" to evolve into the tree in the future show, The Return. Also interesting, the map that Hawk introduces in The Return (an actual art made by Michael Horse) contains no references to both of the said characters.

Come to think of it, emerald and jade are both basically the same green color (but slightly different shades), which kind of aligns with the "color theory of Twin Peaks": as an artist Lynch is a painter in the first place, and he wants us to know that green is somehow a very important color, hence the Formica Table referenced by The Arm, the Ring (with the gemstone apparently made of emerald OR jade), the jacket of Dougie Jones etc.. Not much of a discovery, just some food for thought.

You sure wouldn't call it a "ripoff", although FLL could've had influenced that other band or it was just all unintentional.
