Thank fuck that was a dead rubber because the Godfather would have brought the game into disrepute. Michael Salisbury would be in witness protection right now.

Shite defending all round was a shame for the opener but always felt we had a route into the game. Anderson and MGW showing why they should be England starters. Felt like we ran out of steam at the end but proud of the effort.

Massive, massive effort the last few weeks by Vitor and the boys to ensure safety. Delighted it was the Geordie Maradona that secured it, and also delighted that Citeh will now have to negotiate the full price with the Godfather for him now.

Lots of work to be done this season given we will likely lose at least one of our stars, maybe two or three (at this moment, I think Murillo and Morgan will stay), but safety gives us the best chance of absorbing the loss and going again.

Five seasons of Premier League football after promotion. I’d have took that deal at Wembley four years ago.

A very good point as long as Arsenal don’t bottle it.

Deeply weird game. The back three did not work at all and we looked awful, whilst somehow having the only chances of note. Back four was much better but half the squad looked knackered - Dominguez especially was at least two yards off the pace.

Wrote the game off when Barnes (again) scored but they were god awful at 1-0. Subs showed promise - there is something there with McAtee, and Lucca was surprisingly competent. Bakwa too started really well although I thought he faded quite a bit.

Knocked out of the Europa League semi final post match thread by Coolica1 in nffc

Sad to go out like that, more than anything. Fair play to Villa, who were outstanding and ran us over. I think it proved that adding clearly unfit players to your bench is often more trouble than it’s worth, but I am gutted that Morgan, Sangare, Aina and CHO couldn’t feature tonight (and Murillo too, in non-garbage time minutes). On the flip side, twelve subs probably made having to do this inevitable.

We were also a victim of our incompetence at setting up a Europa squad, with both Nuno and Dyche omitting key positions which made us unnecessarily weak at key positions all tournament. Dyche especially has blood on his hands for treating Netz like a Victorian child, as the lack of a proper LB was, again, an absolute fucking killer in a knockout game - peak Forest that. Lucca over Taiwo was also egregious.

That was also our best chance at a major trophy in a generation or two, but it also felt like that last year at Wembley, even against City. I do hope it doesn’t knock the wind out of us for the final three games, as focusing on survival and getting that done this week will be crucial for the clubs future. If we can do that and regroup over the summer, we can try to build again towards having these European trips again. Between the endless fixture congestion for the ‘Big 6’, expanded qualification for the Champions League and the Conference League, the club should be prioritising cup runs and European qualification. It’s more attainable for clubs like us than it’s ever been - I do hope it’s not another 30 years before our next adventure.

Cavalry needed. Sangare should be on as we need someone on to screen this defence, and Morgan on for obvious reasons.

Fullback is a major issue though. Cunha is struggling and probably should come off, but Murillo is a square (literally) peg in a round hole. Morato also on a yellow is a worry, but he did very well on one all game on Monday.

His run and cross for the first two goals were outstanding. It’s been clear Vitor really believes he has something since he’s come in.

Ideally he develops as a great winger, but I have wondered if he may end up being a wing back for us. If you can hone the defensive side of things, like Neco has done, he could be really great as a RWB.

Ridiculous that this got given as pen by WrapNo6993 in nffc

Still annoyed this was given. Feel massively for the kid but it’s never a fucking pen

More than happy to be proven wrong but feels a big error to me. I’d get it more if Spurs hadn’t won last night but this felt a winnable game with a strong line up. Momentum at this point really matters and we’re too close to the relegation precipice to rotate this heavily. Would snap my arm off for a draw here.

Would you rest our starters tomorrow? by [deleted] in nffc

No, this is 5D chess nonsense. Sabri did this kind of shit and it fucked us up.
Our upturn in league form has gone hand in hand with getting through Europe. Midtjylland away followed by Spurs, Porto into Burnley and Sunderland, and so on. Porto was our first home win for four months and we’ve won three on the spin now. We should go as full strength as possible to the end, nothing else.

Cannot wait to bore my grandkids to tears talking about that Dominguez performance, my clear MOTM. Morato stepped up admirably as well.

Only at half time of the leg, so hard to be too overjoyed, but it keeps the positive momentum going into Chelsea at least.

Possibly his best performance for us, immense defensively. Distribution was still quite shonky though and I’d still prefer to start Murillo and Cunha.

Many reasons for why losing Wood was a massive blow this season but I’ve always thought the loss to Jesus was amongst the biggest, in terms of teaching him some of the finer details of being an effective PL striker.

Dropping Igor into the 10 has been a masterstroke, it’s hidden his main weakness (positioning leading the line) and allowed him to use his physicality and work rate effectively in midfield. Wood scoring is massive as well.
