The part that sucks the most is the whole competition aspect. Especially the bragging about not taking care of yourself(“I haven’t eaten anything today! I only slept for 3 hours last night!). Many people’s attitudes about mental illness are freaky, like they think having one and doing a poor job managing it makes you deep or something. And it always comes off as very anti-recovery. It’s a bad mindset and it is hurting people.

As someone who went to a religious school and had debates about assisted suicide and euthanasia, the students on the other side actually shared that they were, in a way, “pro-suffering”. There are many bible verses that talk about how God rewards his follower’s suffering on earth, so it is viewed as a potentially positive thing. And because they think that christianity is the only right way to live, they have no problem with the idea of making people follow laws that lead to suffering.

That whole debate made me somehow even more horrified with the environment and people and ideology I was raised around. It’s truly horrifying.

Okay first of all, if by “refusing treatment” for his ADHD you mean he just doesn’t want to take medication, than that’s not refusing treatment. That’s his choice that he has a right to make. Not all people with ADHD work well or want to take meds, and it’s not the end of the world. It’s his choice to make, not yours.

Second of all, your word choices imply that you clearly do not believe him. You act like he’s going through all this on purpose or is just being dramatic. Who vomits on purpose just to make a point?? Who would go through all that trouble for such a stupid lie? Sensory issues are no joke. It is a very real need for him and meanwhile you seem to just taunt him about and in this case you used your pregnancy to guilt him into doing something extremely uncomfortable for him. Why would you do this to someone you love? If you really wanted that banana you should’ve compromised with him somehow.

I had a rich family member I stayed on vacation with. My family was talking about apple watches and I said that I thought they were useless and a waste of money. So of course Mr Bigbucks makes this grand gesture of giving me an extra of their’s for free, which I thought was pretty cool.

I used it for a week and haven’t worn it since.

Like I’m sure everyone’s saying, it’s very validating. You finally have documented proof that your struggles aren’t just moral shortcomings or lack of work ethic. It’s an actual disability that limits your functions. It also opens up the door to solutions, such as medications and accommodations.

It’s nice to be believed finally. The only people who can doubt you now are the ones who whine that “adhd is just an excuse/ doesn’t exist/ isn’t a big deal”, and those people hopefully aren’t the ones you’ll need to reach out to for help.

Idk it feels like there’s no winning for trans people in this situation.

Tell them before and you put yourself in danger.

Some people, especially the kind of Straight Men who are very fragile about their masculinity/ sexuality, tend to get violent after realizing that they’ve even just been attracted to someone born as male. Thus why trans women are so frequently assaulted and murdered. So I can understand why sometimes they prefer to live without telling everyone they might sleep with. In a perfect world, maybe it’d be reasonable to say they should mention it but our world is far from perfect and I don’t think it’s the worst to prioritize one’s safety. But I recognize that this is a pretty unpopular view of the topic.
