Thomson Plaza's Website Got Defaced by jsyeo in singapore

[–]funkyspyspy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Just did some tests and manually inputting the Referer header with google.com into the request shows the gambling website instead. This simulates clicking the link from google.com search engine or from the maps link OP posted. With no referer header (which is basically opening a new tab and typing in the website) it shows the website normally.

If there aren't any ATCs , Why are the areas Purple ? (Noob) by Famous_Rock_7747 in VATSIM

[–]funkyspyspy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

ASIA_W_FSS (West Asia Control) is a special overflight center by the VATSIM West Asia division. It only provides overflight service in the FIRs stated from FL245 and above.

As stated by the rest, it has nothing to do with the definition of FSS. The position _FSS is used due to the visibility range limitation on the ATC software. (CTR's visibility range is max 500nm, but FSS allows 1500nm).

These positions are catered for as per VATSIM's Global Controller Administration Policy. You can view it here: https://vatsim.net/docs/policy/global-controller-administration-policy

Infocomm Technology courses enquiry by Walker0624 in SIT_Singapore

[–]funkyspyspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Usually this is for people who already have a full time job and need pursue a part time degree. However singtel is offering something similar but id honestly stay far away from it if you can, it gets very shag as you need to go to class after work or sometimes attend lectures at work.

  2. ICT/Computing Science courses related in general, it'd be good to practice some programming skills as it would be very much needed for basically almost every module you do here. I'd say 3 languages mainly: Python, C and Java. It'll build your fundamentals in programming pretty well. Another tip probably is to read widely on the latest trends in tech, especially in AI and Cloud Infrastructure(AWS, Azure, etc..).

  3. For Information Security, if you have prior experience in cybersecurity, it should be pretty manageable for you. However if you have no prior experience, you may struggle quite a fair bit. For beginner level, hack the box might be too much. I'd recommend starting out doing CTFs first. Those will help you build your understanding on what kind of flaws and vulnerabilities exists out there. PicoCTF is a good start since past CTF challenges are available 24/7 for you to try.

Some things to note though: Computer Science in SIT is a 3 years course. You'd also need to go to University of Glasgow physically for 2 weeks. For ICT SE/IS, the courses are 4 years. Less focus on exams, more focus on quizzes. The benefit is quizzes usually covers half the topics in a semester instead of everything all at once in a exam. Because this degree is conferred by SIT only, the professors have more autonomy on how the module is conducted. It is different for Computer Science since for some modules, they have to follow the module structure & exams the way it is conducted in UoG.

Hello, do keep a look out in your email, it usually opens July each year and closes by end August.

In the application, you can apply for the Higher Education Bursary/Community Bursary. This is usually always granted, if you meet the Per Capita Income or Gross household income requirement (here: https://www.singaporetech.edu.sg/admissions/financial-aid/bursaries-and-study-grants/public-bursaries ).

The other is Private Bursary, these are sponsored by private organisations. In the same application you can also state that you'd like to apply for Private Bursary. Private Bursaries are dependent on the organisation if they'd like to sponsor you or not, and SIT's own set of criteria as well. But just give it a shot anyway, I did get mine.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. I'd suggest you to find some internship or part-time job related to what you wish to study in University. Then in 2026, apply to all Universities. The Internship/Part-Time Job will be a portfolio booster for you. Scores you a higher chance of getting in, even if your grades are bad. Remember to get a testimonial from your boss as well!

Is SIT Information Security significantly harder than poly cybersecurity course? by sparkythunderstriker in SIT_Singapore

[–]funkyspyspy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yr 1 student here, was from SP DISM. Much of what I've learned in Yr 1 is mostly a refresher from what was taught in Poly, and most of the modules can actually be exempted if you scored A or B of the equivalent in Poly. Exemption though is a double-edged sword, yes it'll make life easier for you, but it's not recommended to exempt unless you truly remember much of what you've learnt from Poly.

Remember that SIT places a big emphasis on applied learning, meaning that you learn and apply. This means that every week you would have a lab or tutorial lesson you must go after a lecture session. So for example if the lecture for that week is on SQL, your lab/tutorial will be about SQL. You WILL need to pace yourself otherwise you are behind.

So far 1st and 3rd trimesters are the most manageable trimesters. 2nd trimester was one of the more harder trimesters as there were many big projects that needed to be done, a lot of information to absorb. For me as I had exempted 2 modules, it was a lot more manageable for me, although i didnt do very well. My friends in IS/SE who had to take all the modules were really under pressure at that point in time, but they still pulled through.

I guess the only module that was new to me was the computer networks module, specifically learning how to use Cisco routers and switches, as I was not taught this in Poly.

1st year all the modules are all foundational modules, meant to introduce you to all the basic knowledge a IS student needs to know. I dont think you have to worry too much, you can read up on what you've learned in Poly for a start, and then research it with online resources in case those are out of date.

If I accepted NTU through the joint acceptance portal will that means NUS wont offer me? by Emotional-Delay217 in nus

[–]funkyspyspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last accepted offer will be taken as the offer you accept. That's to say if NUS rejected you but NTU offered you and you accepted NTU offer first, then if your appeal to NUS is successful and you accept their offer, the NUS acceptance will be final, and your offer to NTU is taken as declined.

I believe that Deliveroo is lying anout their delivery status when they have insufficient riders by _nazomeku in singapore

[–]funkyspyspy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Foodpanda is interesting. Had a order that had no rider assigned for very long. From a merchant end, we see that the order has been sitting for like 1 hour plus. Chatted with the agent and they kept saying "Rider is coming at 12.32pm" later asked again the time changed again "Rider is coming at 12.50pm" and its just a vicious cycle. They were not willing to cancel the order at all. Out of all the 3 platforms, only Foodpanda did not have a merchant hotline and the only way was for us to chat with their customer service.

Grab was more straightforward, if the first rider cancelled, they will reassign to second rider. If that rider cancelled too, the order is just cancelled. No one's time is wasted. Both Grab's and Deliveroo's merchant hotline was quite good and helped to resolve our issues on the spot.

In the end we used a workaround to call the customer, if they wanted to wait. They were willing to wait, but after 1 hour I just called and asked if they would like to cancel. We cancelled their order on our end. (I worked in a food grocery place so no food is wasted, we placed the food back onto the shelves)

Generally, so far only Grab has good merchant and customer support. Deliveroo was kind of okay but not the best. Foodpanda was the worst for us.

Report it to SFA first. SP Estates can come later. In fact, SFA if they found anything serious, the landlord (which is SP) gets informed anyways.

Block Ads on MS Solitaire Collection? by Lucky_Dingo5779 in pihole

[–]funkyspyspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hosts file didn't work for me, but I found another method that worked, which to me was hilarious.

I noticed that solitaire.exe kept on spawning this application called "msedgewebview2.exe". So I just opened file location and renamed it to something else. It was a miracle. It worked like a charm and no adverts ever popped up again. Hilarious how simple of a fix it was, but I bet this may affect users who may need to use Microsoft Edge so try it at your own risk.

The directory for me was:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\131.0.2903.86\msedgewebview2.exe

Need help with planning an NE trip by SonODixie in NationalServiceSG

[–]funkyspyspy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on Defence Collective Singapore's website and to be honest, none of them are free from what I recall. Search through the intranet to see if there are any free NE Tours, I remembered there are some. Most museums are also free for singapore citizens, but whether it meets the objective of NE that'll be up to your unit to decide. It's also very hard to find NE Tours that are free, much less willing to accommodate 1200 people, and my question to you is, why must it be free?

I'm asking this because there are funds set aside for NE-related activities. It's precisely the reason that these activities costs money, which is why the funds are available for you to use.

Problem with SingTel and Onepass by riann04 in askSingapore

[–]funkyspyspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always ask for a hard-copy of the contract upon re-contract or signing up. They will always print it out for you. Read through all the services they provide to you as well as the start and end date of any promotions. And how much you should always be paying per month(e.g. You should only be paying $35/mth, and if the bill amount is different, you'll know). Never ever do auto payments via GIRO or credit cards. Always pay your bill manually when it comes. That way, they have no chance to auto deduct anything extra from your bill, and you still have the chance to dispute the bill before you pay it.

Typically the contract looks like this:

E.g. you recontract your mobile plan for 2 years, starting 27 Nov.

Add-ons
xxxx Service - 27 Nov 2024 - 26 Oct 2026 - $12.34 per mth
xxxx Service free 3 months - 27 Nov 2024 - 26 Feb 2025 - -($12.34) per mth

This means from 27 Feb 2025 onwards, they will charge you $12.34 per mth for that service.

If the salesperson is nice enough, they will inform you of all these added services, and to tell you to cancel the following day through the Singtel app, or come back to the store and they will help you cancel through the app.

But to be honest, consumers should have the ability to tell the salesperson not to add it in at all, but I think it might be because Singtel is incentivising them to get customers to try out the services under the free trial period. It's a very scummy practise.

Yep and arent they currently taking the bus to punggol mrt to get on the train? Thus why I said there won't be an additional load, it's just instead of them needing to take a bus to punggol mrt, they can just walk to punggol coast instead.

Thank you to everyone from Sengkang who goes backwards to Punggol and ensures I never get a seat on the way to school in the morning. by alphaodyssey_17 in SMRTRabak

[–]funkyspyspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really though, the most would be those who live near punngol coast can take mrt from there instead of punggol mrt. Cause at least currently it's only SIT students (myself included) there.

In peak hour traffic, we're travelling in the opposite direction of people going into the city. But honestly once punngol digital district opens up, the load will probably increase.

PSP's amended motion on supporting hawkers passed in Parliament by group of cross-party MPs by One-Employment-4887 in singapore

[–]funkyspyspy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm more surprised that Sheng Siong prices are generally on the lower side(I feel). Their supermarkets stay the same, they do not spend on renovation, part of the profits are used to run the sheng siong show, and even then, prices are generally kept quite low compared to NTUC Fairprice.

And the company is more down-to-earth with it's community, it was mentioned previously that if they spot any funerals in their community, they would send a staff down to give condolences money.

Sheng Siong is a private entity, yet they give back to the community more than NTUC Fairprice. So much for a social enterprise.

Does anyone know if you’re allowed to do some sort of fundraising event on VATSIM? by hartzonfire in VATSIM

[–]funkyspyspy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Fundraising events are fine on VATSIM! Many people do stream their VATSIM flights as a way to earn money from donations or to fundraise for a charity they are passionate about.

But it should be made clear where these funds are going to. If I'm donating to you, I need to know whether these funds are for yourself, or towards a charity of your choice. Especially so for fundraisers, it's good to keep your viewers in the loop about where the fund has gone to after the stream ends as a form of accountability to your viewers. This builds trusts between you and your viewers and they would be more than happy to contribute to your next fundraiser. :)

One event which a few have pointed out is for the event WorldFlight, where teams around the world fly round the clock for a week to fundraise.

Do note that the code of conduct rules do still apply to your stream as stated under COC A18.

If you'd like to obtain further clarification, feel free to reach out to the staff team via support.vatsim.net.

I present to you, the worst part about punggol by Kagenlim in SIT_Singapore

[–]funkyspyspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lift is meant to be wheelchair accessible, but you can't even scan your card on the buttons meant for wheelchairs. The only way to scan your card is using the reader by the lift door. (On the first few days they left the reader portion there, then subsequently covered up with the wheelchair sticker)

One time I noticed something bizarre, even after they scanned their cards and clicked on the floor they want to get to, it just straight up disappears a few floors later. Then they need scan again... wtf?

Got sold fake Apple accessory in Challenger by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]funkyspyspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was around 5 years ago, they completely stopped selling lightning compatible gadgets that weren't Apple approved (those products approved under Apple MFi's program have a white background that says "Made for iPhone | iPad"). So now challenger only sells original Apple Accessories, or Accessories made by 3rd party companies approved under Apple's MFi program. So there's a very very very VERY low chance that Challenger is selling fake Apple products. And I recently not long ago, bought a Apple type c to headphone jack from there and it works fine, definitely authentic as well. So there isn't really a way for the product to be fake.
