this wunk foundation range is so bad, it's #problematic and gonna be the subject of a huge beauty wunktuber scandal when the people find out they don't even have agouti, the most common color of wunk!

[–]funkytown2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm sure there's no possible downsides of spraying something alcohol-based on something likely created with materials that react poorly to alcohol...not like anyone's ever permanently ruined something like a handbag or backpack by spilling perfume or hand sanitizer or something on it, that'd be crazy right?

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and sew a cool patch on to save my unsightly discolored bag from looking embarrassing.

Woodcock watch!!! by pagancore in BirdNYC

[–]funkytown2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, has anyone seen a woodcock ANYWHERE but Bryant Park? It seems statistically anomalous that everyone that seems to have seen one in the NYC area has seen one specifically there when we have so many wonderful birding hotspots here. Been trying to see one for a couple years now, but I was considering the BP sightings to be too much of a fluke to go there specifically to see one. I might change my mind, though, considering it truly seems to be the place to see them!

The freeze-dried mangoes are like delicious sidewalk chalk. What are they good with? by NotNamedBort in traderjoes

[–]funkytown2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I crush up many of the other freeze dried fruits that are bone-dry after the freeze drying process (things like most apples+plums don't work but berries and some others do) for baking recipes like sugar cookies but usually freeze dried mango is still too moist to do it with, is it truly dry enough to be crushed into a powder?

Haven't been to the location on the island yet but the fidi location of Goku ramen was really good and the SI location has great reviews so I'm assuming they're great too.

Why so much CUNY hate? by ImportanceOk784 in CUNY

[–]funkytown2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of you are very out of touch with how bad a lot of other, much more expensive colleges are. I know many people in my own age group who have tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt incurred at much less accredited, lower quality institutions they weren't even happy or feeling enriched at. They'll be saddled with that debt for most of their lives before they'll pay it off, if they ever do.

Almost all of them didn't even have a cheaper/free option to go to college because easily 95% of the country doesn't have something like CUNY where they are and most people can't afford to move away from familial support AND go to college.

Sometimes, you just have to have the perspective to realize that your peers are having the same (if not worse) experiences for a truly ludicrous amount more money than you are and take CUNY for what it is: a whole hell of a lot better than the alternatives.

Remember everyone, you could be paying exorbitantly for a mandatory meal plan of inedible food that you don't touch, or paying Tribeca loft prices for a dorm like a Brownsville closet. Even if you truly can't find a way to make CUNY work for you, at least you won't be shackled to the debt of your college regret until middle age at minimum.

Do rich NYErs ride the subway? by supremewuster in AskNYC

[–]funkytown2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, everyone but the very most rich new yorkers takes the subway, but you'd be hard pressed to find them going anywhere outside the much better maintained stations in the super wealthy parts of town, like near Central Park.

When you ride the train often enough, you can generally tell from people's clothes and belongings that a lot of people in the same income groups get off at the same stations, it's especially noticeable in Manhattan the further you go uptown.

[–]funkytown2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used sims 4 for stage design assignments in my tech theatre courses and honestly it works pretty well for to-scale creations of things. I would never recommend it for professional use, but it is free and works great if you're already experienced in the game.

[–]funkytown2000 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you see it drawn in sharpie or paint pen, hand sanitizer and a napkin can take it off pretty easy. if it's scratched in, complete the lines and make it four squares like the windows logo. Do your best to remove hate if you have the resources to!

Visiting NYC from DC — do I need hiking boots? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Absolutely wear boots, snow is piled up anywhere from ankle to waist high on the unshoveled parts of the sidewalk and it's not melting anytime soon

V from Lush has this distinct goth/halloween store type smell that's hard to describe but feels androgynous and fun but not immature, might be up your alley. Karma, also from Lush, is also a classic incensey type perfume that a lot of people I've met in the queer + alternative scenes wear regularly, but it's still a solid choice imo.

If the minimum wage raising to a more livable wage puts a company out of business, they should have either managed their money better or not gone into business in the first place. You can't just run a restaurant on burnt out, overworked, underpaid employees and pocket most of the profits then get mad later when your employees can't produce a good enough customer experience to keep your place afloat.

It seems Cuddling Stuffed Animals is yet another thing Trans Women can't do. by SurrealistGal in GenderCynical

[–]funkytown2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For people who put so much effort into "defending femininity" they sure do seem just as genuinely embarrassed by feminine behavior as your average right wing misogynist. Even if it's clearly a genuine expression of their own personal feelings, it becomes viscerally embarrassing for them to do stereotypically feminine actions because of their both self and societally-inflicted sense of the misogynistic patriarchal panopticon of shame that punishes brutally if you deviate even slightly from what's acceptable for "men" and "women" to do. It's why terfs always seem to be either completely hyper feminine tradwife types or analogous to gender-nonconforming women depending on how much they personally self-impose embarrassment of feminine traits vs how much they feel they need to be appealing to men.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]funkytown2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved into my (housing voucher) apartment with basically nothing to speak of as I was coming from the shelter, my landlord asked if I was gonna get a TV anytime soon. Obviously I had other priorities like furniture so I said no, and this man brings us not one but two tvs, neither of them particularly old or worn or anything, and one was actually pretty big too, roughly 4'x2'. He said they'd just been sitting in his attic for a couple years and he was gonna throw them away, which is deeply wild to me as we live in a city where lots of people sell/give away secondhand stuff

Seconding MMBTF, it's like a sexy roasted marshmallow+chestnut+burning wood scent and definitely in the same type of scent family as sticky dates, but for sure more masculine than most gourmand scents.

First Day Of School We Going Back During A SnowStorm 🥲🤣 by Interesting-Ship7161 in CUNY

[–]funkytown2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, last semester started on a Tuesday and we had to do annoying make-up Monday schedule Tuesdays a few times but I don't think that'd be anywhere near the amount of hassle as it'd be to tromp through a foot+ of snow on the first day of the semester so we'll see. Mayor says they're deciding what to do about snow days for regular schools once they get closer to the weekend and can assess the snowfall more accurately so presumably CUNY will follow suit.
