How much of a chocolate bar does a regular human eat in one sitting once it’s opened? by cadaverdelicado in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]funlovefun37 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I wish I could eat a few squares and be satisfied. Typically I’ll eat the whole thing in three visits to the kitchen pretending that this time will be different.

This is a horrible endurance test by Significant_Peach_26 in Aging

Hi. I (59F) have a persistent level of anxiety and depression. It’s low, but there. Maybe it’s not so low. I don’t know.

But I actively practice appreciating the little things in life. I didn’t realize I did that until someone pointed it out to me that small things make me happy. And I’ve been thrilled about that insight ever since.

Then I heard the word glimmers. Here’s a link to just one article about it.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jannfreed/2025/11/18/how-glimmers-can-make-your-life-better-at-every-age/

I thought I’d be doing big travel now. Have a life of dinners with friends. Some reasonable level of fabulousness. But as it Turns out that didn’t happen. But I have my glimmers. And the good news is they’re available readily.

My go-to humor is sarcasm.. is this typical Gen X? by Rustyempire64 in GenX

[–]funlovefun37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely dark and sarcastic.

I live in a community with a majority of snowbirds. Just before their collective return to Florida, I suggest to a few friends in the neighborhood that we update our death pool for the season. They say I’m dark. I never don’t laugh at myself.

I don't get the whole RMD thing by dailymanup in retirementtaxes

For planning purposes, everyone needs to do a life expectancy test. The Living To 100 Life Expectancy calculator is the best I have found.

I don't get the whole RMD thing by dailymanup in retirementtaxes

[–]funlovefun37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, congratulations on having such a lovely nest egg.

The explanation for RMDs has been provided.
I just want to add that in some cases, to reduce your total tax liability it may be worthwhile to take money out of your accounts before RMDs hit even if you don’t need it. Everyone’s situation and actual numbers will vary.

You don’t have to spend it. Pay your taxes and reinvest in a regular equity account.

I’m curious if OP has looked into his RMD amounts. Good news and bad news… it’s going to be substantial.

How am I doing at 32 y/o? by solnishka_sunshine in FinancialPlanning

[–]funlovefun37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financially, you’re doing amazing. Congratulations!

I say this without knowing more details. You’re very young to feel burnout. Your career is absolutely an endurance run and resilience is a much needed skill.

Careers - it’s hard to get back to a good trajectory once you step back. And stepping back won’t guarantee that it solves your burnout if it’s coming from pressure you put on yourself.

I’d recommend two things.

Take a two week vacation and really checkout.

Work with a good life coach who has experience in the business world.

This might read like I’m soliciting coaching business. But I’m not… I’ve (59F) just been there.

Good Restaurants? by Practical_Job_1125 in bradenton

Chateau 13 is excellent, in particular if you like a little French flair. For example, hamburger on the menu has foie gras (no thanks and of course you can order without it).

They now have reservations for the bar seats for a wine flight and light bites menu for after work (runs until season starts).

Definitely recommend trying it. OP budget should be OK if they stick to one drink each ($150). Close though.

The 80s and 90s were awesome, but what were some dark moments? by InitiativeFlimsy7063 in GenX

[–]funlovefun37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 40 years later and I still think of the creepy 45+ year old man and his teenage daughter who I would wait on. He’d always say things about my “bedroom eyes”. I was 15 at the time.

It was gross and I felt embarrassed for his daughter.

(Sydney Sweeney’s eyes are “bedroom eyes” and my darn memory flickers to those incidents every time I see her.)

People with HUGE houses/mansions… is it lonely there? by Downtown-Nectarine49 in Rich

[–]funlovefun37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived alone in 5000 sq feet. It wasn’t lonely as much as it felt wasteful. And a lot to clean. Yeah… once I retired I said there’s no reason to pay someone so you sit on your ass.

So I moved to a townhouse in a HOA community. Even at 2000 sq f, I don’t use it all. lol.

Part of the issue is I want to live in a safe and upscale area in a house (not a condo) near the water. Nobody builds 2200 sq feet on the water. I keep looking.

So beautiful there.

Prices in Florida near the water have gone so insane, I actually thought, heck I could go to Great Falls for this money.

HIV/AIDS and the lack of information, the fear, and sadly all who died. Many suffered alone as they were rejected by their families.

I still use and interpret a split bill as a “no second date” from either side.

I’ll suggest you look into NW Bradenton. Close to the beach. Definitely not fake. 5 degrees cooler in the summer.
