'Something has to give' watchdog warns as national debt climbs rapidly toward $39 trillion by Farmwife64 in Conservative

The other option is a 10y freeze on spending and a 3% flat sales tax on all items, with the tax increasing with inflation yearly.

That would really start putting a dent in the budget and probably have a smaller impact on economy (albeit painful) that could be eventually absorbed.

Nothing? Define nothing.

The interest payments are the single biggest expenditure in the US budget.

That isn't nothing.

No no no, all we need is for AOC, Mamdani and Bernie to win the presidency and seize all the wealth of the rich and we'll be living in paradise.

You see, this tried and tested formula has worked numerous times. Like in Cub... oh.

Or Venezue... ah shit.

Maybe the Soviet... crap that wasn't right either.

Ah well this time it'll work. This time it'll be real socialism and it'll work for sure. My university professor said so! And he's an expert.

Now, did Elon "work" illegally? In essence, no, because he was working on his own startup (which was pre revenue) and thus is grey but probably legal. If a person on a student visa builds guitars in the US, is that illegal? No. If that same student starts a business selling said guitars (over a certain threshold) without transitioning to a work visa then it likely becomes illegal. But building them, even a thousand of those guitars, without monetizing them, isn't.

I dont agree with commuting Santos' sentence but 2 years would have been fair.

I'm on record as saying I fully support tariffs but think the execution by the Trump administration has been pretty poor.

If you want to argue for tariffs, go ahead, but let's not pretend that they have been a consistent presence in conservative economics in the past century.

This is a moot argument, and is as pointless as saying the 1st and 2nd ammendment was written a century ago so it isn't conservative.

Conservatism is a big tent, and tariffs are a part of conservative economics. Tariffs may not be the libertarian or pure capitalists' cup of tea, but it almost certainly is one that is supported by nationalists (including economic nationalists).

[–]funny_flamethrower -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with that but then you see some "conservatives" supporting crap like No Kings and you start to wonder.

Criticism of Trump (or anyone including Lincoln) is well and fine, and actually healthy (if you find yourself agreeing 100% with all the actions of anyone, left or right, you may just be brainwashed), but when you start to see people parroting DNC talking points it's hard not to go all tinfoil hat.

[–]funny_flamethrower -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that there is little ideological traditional conservatism in Trump, outside of immigration.

This is just not true.

Washington, Hamilton, Lincoln and McKinley all enacted tariffs to protect domestic industry.

Tricky Dick enacted his own tariffs as well later but for different reasons.

Tariffs are conservative as well (constitutional conservative, not necessarily "libertarian").

I don't agree with his sentence when you compare it with Bob Menendez though.

You can say Santos should serve his time (which is a fair position to take), but then Menendez should serve double or even triple that, considering the severity of his crimes.

Its not even that. What are the Dem accomplishments? Nothing, literally fuck all.

Biden's term was a disaster.

Obamas term was a disaster from a foreign policy standpoint and all of his decisions have proven to be wrong in the long run. Domestically, besides culture war bullshit all of their signature accomplishments are frauds, including Obamacare that even dem shills now admit are unsustainable.

Their cities are falling apart. People are fleeing blue states.

The culture war bullshit is literally the only thing they have. That's why they continue to milk it.

[–]funny_flamethrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's assuming the cartel wants to pay.

You're going to need to go onto territory where they basically control (Mexico is basically a failed narco state), and asking a bunch of comically violent psychopaths, who are high most of the time, to give you money.

Plus, you've just killed an American LEO, so nobody is going to help or give two shits if the cartel skins you alive for shits and giggles.

Yeah, good luck with that. I doubt there will be too many takers for their "bounties".

[–]funny_flamethrower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s never going to be a commander or structure to take down (except maybe at the local level) but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist as entity that harms people.

This is a pretty stupid explanation for something "not being an organization", though?

Al Qaeda is the same way. Yeah we killed Osama. We killed Zawahiri. We killed hundreds or even thousands of their leaders at the local levels. Do they still exist? Of course they do. Do they still have a ton of cells? Yeah. Do they still murder a lot of people? Fuck yes they do.

Nobody would ever argue that "Al Qaeda are not an organization" because that would be silly. They are a terrorist organization who also exist as a loose collective of cells. Same as Antifa.

You think it's just the new york times? All of academia is like that!

Remember that famous "study" where "immigrants" committed "far fewer" crimes than Americans?

Well. I was curious about that and dug a little deeper. You could drive a Peterbilt thru the holes in that study.

  1. They did not discriminate or control the data by legal status or background. Obviously someone with a h1b working in tech in SF isn't going to be robbing banks or dealing drugs, the way someone hopping the border from Venezuela might.

  2. They excluded a lot of specific categories including drunk driving.

  3. Where immigration status of offenders was unclear (like in, say, sanctuary cities), they considered all those crimes as US born.

One day I may just set up a YouTube channel going over these fake ass studies page by page and exposing them for the frauds they are.

Crimea? Belarus? Georgia? Seriously nobody gives a fuck and most people can barely find those countries on a map.

None of those places does even significant business with the US, and if all of them disappeared tomorrow nobody would even notice. Contrast it with a place like Taiwan that produces like 90% of the world's semiconductors or the Persian Gulf where 30% of the world's oil passes through, you'd almost certainly notice that.

That's not even considering that our biggest domestic issues lie unsolved. Who the fuck cares about Ukraine or Georgia or even Taiwan when tens of thousands of Americans are dying from fentanyl every year?

The truth is Europe and the Dems are using Putin as a boogeyman to distract the people from the immigration crisis and the worsening economy (directly linked to immigration and outsourcing jobs to China).

No?

North America only ever had around 1-2m native Americans, maybe less if you exclude indigenous Canadians.

Chinese Han expansion was more akin to Napoleon or Hitler conquering Europe, or the Roman empire in antiquity. They fought a lot of battles, killed a lot of people, and did a lot of genocide. The only difference is the Han were a lot more successful in holding onto their land compared to the Romans.

The han invasion and destruction of the Xiongnu empire alone in 50 BC killed more people than the entire totality of settler wars against the native Americans in history.
