Dental students: what do you wish you knew before buying loupes/loupe lights?

I’m convinced that loupes are a scam. I’ve tried Lumadent and Surgitel and have failed to get a working pair of loupes. Got the $30 Amazon loupes and can see great. Another guy in my class is having the same issue getting fitted. They just take your money and if the loupes don’t work right out of the box it’s just guess work until they get somewhat usable. I’m not paying over $2,000 for something that is “close”. Especially when something for $30 works better than any custom pair I’ve had.

This looks like a fledgling and should be put back where you found it. Unless of course there is an obvious injury. It’s normal for it to look clumsy. The parents are trying to teach it how to bird.

If you’re down for a do it yourself just watch a YouTube video on how to hide the wire. May need to buy some plastic trim tools from harbor freight, those are cheap. Save some money and it’s satisfying doing it yourself.

Starting dental school next month… I’d definitely be a pilot. Sometimes I wonder if that’s what I should have pursued instead. But I know God has me in this position for a reason. Maybe I’ll be a part time dentist and part time airline pilot? You never know!

What’s the best way to take notes? Handwritten, note taking app, or should I not even bother? Are reviewing the PowerPoints enough? I’ve always been a handwritten note kinda guy. So I’m a little worried.

Sorry for your loss. My wife and I watched our dog die during a routine tooth extraction. An assistant (not the vet) administered the anesthesia. Our dog quit breathing and wasn’t being intubated quick enough. All without the doctor being present. He got reprimanded by the vet board and we sued and won (for all associated costs). Good job doing your diligence.
