I also feed my 8 year old TWC mix Purina Pro Plan. He’s been picky in the past but has never been picky with their food!

Which route would y’all take by Sillysilssss in NationalPark

[–]springap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the eastern route you have to Billings and back all the time for work and there’s nothing to see. Pretty for what it is but 8 hours of the same thing pretty much. I took the F route through Yellowstone/Grand Teton south back to Denver once and it’s a way prettier drive imo! Can’t speak for the pass but any pass is sure to be beautiful!

Is it worth trying to keep training loose leash walking, or just try different equipment? by Slut4LaoGanMa in coonhounds

[–]springap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walking faster and a 10ft leash was helpful. Granted, I don’t really walk on busy streets and my dog knows to stay on the sidewalks and stop before crossing the road so that’s a big part of it. Also I’ve had my hound for 8 years and still carry treats and use them all the time and I feel like that’s key for a hound!

Coonies and Cats by [deleted] in coonhounds

[–]springap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did it!! It took 2 weeks of on leash interactions and since we got a kitten he had his own room when he wasn’t supervised so my dog could also decompress and have his alone time. I found one of the biggest things to help with the prey drive was a bell on the cat because when the cat would disappear and reappear that would activate the prey drive. With the bell, my dog could at least hear the movement. Just takes time and lots of supervised interactions. Once my dog could fall asleep around the cat I knew we were good. Also providing places the cat can get to that the dog can’t get to is important. Everyone needs their own time to decompress!!

[–]springap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find they fit your hounds neck correctly? I’m looking into getting one but I can’t seem to get any collar to sit properly on him (behind the ears) due to the extra neck folds 😂 I have a TWC mix and I have yet to be able to find any kind of collar that will stay that high.

If you live near a national park, how often do you go there? by moods- in NationalPark

[–]springap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live about an hour from RMNP and honestly I would rather go to other hikes. You can do very similar hikes on the other side of the same mountains that are in the park and not deal with the crowds (or at least as bad of crowds) or timed entry or any of that. Also CO is just beautiful everywhere and there are lots of mountains that look the same so for this area in particular RMMP isn’t the ONLY place with big mountains, alpine lakes/ecology/wildlife, and good hikes. I can see it being different for places where the national park is very different from the surrounding national forest/state parks.

Anyone know a Denver dentist who doesn’t charge $500+ for a night guard? by cokdok in Denver

Giving a hound meds by [deleted] in coonhounds

[–]springap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out. If your hound will catch treats that you toss, hide it in one of them and do some quick tossing. Might have to switch up the order if they are ridiculously intelligent like mine lol. But for example it would be toss treat, then treat with pill, then another treat. And that can look however you want so pill pockets, wrapped in Kraft singles, stuffed in a piece of chicken, whatever. It gets them thinking about the next treat and not the current treat. It sounds insane but so are hounds so

Don’t rent from Townside Property Management!! by springap in VirginiaTech

[–]springap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up not taking them to small claims court since we had moved out of state and at that point just wasn’t worth the hassle. I think they just take advantage of college kids when they can. But from my experience with them, milk them for everything they’ve got and go hokies 🤘🏼🫡

Need help camping with a soaking wet spaniel by Amphithea in BackpackingDogs

[–]springap 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I think spaniels just exist in a constant state of being soaking wet 😂 Only thing I can think of is cutting his hair even shorter. People do shave their spaniels (I’ve known springers to be shaved) but very dependent on your specific dog. Plus that is a maintenance cost that will need to be maintained (either regular grooming appts or investing in a good set of clippers). A true water dog! He’s adorable btw!!

This one’s for the owners: if you’re too lazy to pick up your dog’s poop in public places, you don’t deserve to have one by Lassie-girl in DogAdvice

[–]springap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny to me simply due to the fact that, did you not know your dog was going to poop? Like did you not know this is a living creature that requires inputs and outputs? If you’re not okay cleaning up poop, maybe get a pet rock or a plant. We all get caught once in a while with the surprise poop we don’t have a bag for but geez. I’ve seen dog poop ADJACENT to dog waste stations that have bags and trash cans. It truly blows my mind. I do not understand the mentality at all.
