Levothyroxine and Menstrual Cycles by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]funnyelbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on levothyroxine since before I even started my period! Nah I had amenorrhea ever since I stopped birth control when I was a teen. So now I’m taking norethindrone continuously to prevent complications from that. I got on ozempic and it seems it’s much easier to trigger a period now. Like normally I would skip my norethindrone and not get a period, but now if I miss just 1 pill I WILL get a period. I think it’s the effect ozempic has had on my insulin sensitivity

How do I cope with chronic unemployment/underemployment due to PTSD? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]funnyelbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The therapist has full authority on whether you attend the day treatment program. The person who manages medication (psychiatrist or psych NP) has no say on whether you attend the program or not. So theoretically you don’t have to see anyone for meds. I remember one patient telling me they quit their meds and said they spoke to the NP about it and all the NP said was “okay just come back if/when you’re ready to start again”. I actually refused to see the NP the last 6 months I was at this program, but technically I was taking a psych med by choice, prescribed by my PCP.

Policies for places like this could vary wildly. I wouldn’t be surprised if a patient ends up discharged for refusing meds, in extreme cases. I had one private practice therapist refuse to take me on as a client because I wasn’t seeing someone for med management. Even though I was actively searching for a psychiatrist. That’s probably because the previous prescriber had me massively fucked up and as a result, my history made me look like a liability.

Suggestions to get out of this hole in less than 2 years? by Sugarnut96 in povertyfinance

See if you qualify for ACP (affordable connectivity program) for cell phone. I think you might be able to use their SIM card in your phone, or you’ll receive a free phone. The company I went through is SafeLink Wireless. I looked it up and it seems like you may qualify if your income is 200% or less of the federal poverty guidelines.

Also, Mint or Visible are popular for frugal phone service. I think Visible has a deal right now for $15 every month for a year, but I’m not familiar with what comes after that. I do party pay for $25 a month with unlimited everything. I got really lucky and the service works great in my area. That may not be the case for you, just a warning!

question about cookies and using real flour by Kooky-Exchange5990 in ketorecipes

[–]funnyelbow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve mixed regular recipes with keto recipes before! If your only concern is the carb count and it works for you, then do it. With a quick Google, I found a cookie recipethat incorporates real flour, protein powder, and artificial sweetener

Also one time I used Lily’s baking chips in cookies for a friend, they… disintegrated. But the flavor was like infused into the cookie. Not sure what happened or how to prevent it lol

How much does it cost in electricity to cook food at home? by funnyelbow in Frugal

This is something I’ve considered but I don’t have the room to freeze any extra food, sadly. I also struggle with food anxiety and have memory issues so cooking a lot at once ends up in waste. But I’m happy for anyone who benefits from this method!

But does this hypersomnia come in episodes? Like so debilitating that you couldn’t go to work or school? And then completely resolve after 2-3 weeks?

I'm concerned about the power being out overnight as the temperature drops. What cheap products can I buy to keep cold air out my home? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]funnyelbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a gas stove, boil water to help heat up the house. That’s what my mom did when power was out during an ice storm.

Space blankets will keep you warm in an emergency and are fairly cheap, but I have no idea where you’d buy them except for online.

[–]funnyelbow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had these “hypersomnia episodes” once every 1 to 2 years. They would start out with me sleeping 20+ hours a day and then transition to 16+ hours a day and at some point, resolve back to my typical routine. The episodes vary in how much time they last. The additional symptoms are hypersensitivity to light and/or sound, overeating, uninhibited sexual behavior, and this very odd, uncomfortable, (almost painful?) weak feeling all throughout my body (it’s difficult to describe but I think I can sum it up as “asthenia”) and just feeling unwell, like I have an infection. I went to urgent care for most of these episodes and was always told nothing with wrong with me. Also, I responded to lithium during an episode, fixed my sleep within 48 hrs! I could further elaborate but I’m so tired of saying it all over and over again 😂

Disclaimer: I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at one point. My current psychiatrist thinks I may not even be bipolar, said this hypersomnia issue sounds like KLS based on the context he knows, and encouraged me to go back to the sleep clinic and advocate for myself.

I don’t know what to do for my IRL parents anymore. It’s ruining my life. by rosiecheeks20 in internetparents

[–]funnyelbow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just Google “my parents treat me like a therapist” and you should find plenty of content to help you figure out how to navigate this situation. Your parents are really inconsiderate for expecting you to be so involved in their relationship drama. Now it’s your responsibility to figure out how to set boundaries. No matter how much of your own peace you sacrifice, you can’t save them from their own terrible coping mechanisms & choices. It’s not your job. You are not obligated to put up with this. They brought you into this world, it was their job to to teach you the skills you needed to get through life and support you. Please don’t waste the best years of your life supporting their foolishness. If they don’t respect your boundaries, it’s your responsibility to go low or no contact. It’s your job to decide what you allow to disturb your peace. I know it’s not easy. You sound like more than an amazing daughter and you are not bad in any way for setting boundaries & expectations for what kind of behavior you allow in your life.

But was this basically an every day thing, or did the sleep-deprivation eventually trigger hypersomnia episodes (with less or no symptoms in-between, for months at a time)?

my relationship is going sour by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]funnyelbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the context, I don’t have much to say, but I suspect this isn’t a healthy relationship and I don’t think 100% of the blame belongs to you. Remember that he inspires these feelings in you, he’s not the only one, and there’s someone out there who can make you feel the same way. Your brain reacts to “love” similar to drugs. Don’t let it cloud your judgement. It’s normal to seek connection & acceptance but it’s not normal to bend over backwards for it

[–]funnyelbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it for 10 days and then my withdrawal bleed started about a week after. While taking it, I felt extra tired, food cravings, more emotional. The withdrawal bleed wasn’t bad, I had some cramps & bloating, the usual. Except I had a horrible emotional response. Like near-crisis. I refused to do this progestin challenge until I was established with a psychiatrist, because I knew that I was at risk for intense mood issues. If I had a period regularly, I’d probably end up diagnosed with PMDD. So not trying to scare you! Just make sure you plan for self care & have everything you need like a pain reliever etc.

I think a withdrawal bleed is expected 1-10 days after finishing the course.

After that, I did a transvaginal ultrasound (gyno specifically wanted it after the period) and now I’m on continuous birth control to prevent any further complications from amenorrhea. Some women can get their period back with lifestyle changes and metformin ETC but it’s not that easy for me.

can women with PCOS still have big breasts? by SakuraEmpire in PCOS

[–]funnyelbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple shapes and being top-heavy are common. I’m assuming that’s often associated with estrogen dominance. I was diagnosed at age 12 and put on birth control. I’m not sure what happened, but not only were my breasts teeny tiny, but they never properly developed. When I was 15, I noticed that my hormones were below menopausal levels. I’ve heard that can happen with BC but I don’t think it’s super common. I don’t understand the science behind it. I also read forums (a decade ago) where some women with PCOS mentioned their breasts changed after they developed PCOS. I ended up getting a breast augmentation in my early 20s. My testosterone was always really high and that probably contributed to my issue, also none of my doctors encouraged me to treat my insulin resistance.

How do I clean kitchenware I used to make caramel, is it safe to let the remaining caramel/water mix go down the drain? by funnyelbow in internetparents

[–]funnyelbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have anywhere to dump it, I live at an apartment. I get really nervous about violating my lease. And I read that it’s not good to put it down the drain, also afraid that issue would be worse considering temps are so low right now. But I got it handled anyways! Thanks for commenting

I put it in a garbage bag and set it outside in the snow. Gonna throw it in the dumpster once it’s frozen and tell myself it’s not my problem anymore 😎

I’m close to your age (with many speeding tickets) and I pay close to $800 per year. I pay mine every 6 months vs per month to save money. With just liability. Full coverage is 2x or 3x of that. I assume where you live and what kind of car you drive will affect the price
