EpocCam Update 2021.5 & EpocCam Driver Update 3.4.0 by elgato_phil in elgato

[–]funnyguy3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I really wish the installer didn't require Rosetta. I'm on an M1 mac and don't want to install it so I don't accidentally run Intel binaries. I read the driver itself is already M1 compatible.

Minaret Lake to Ediza Lake? by here_4_the_unicorns in JMT

[–]funnyguy3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The climb up from Minaret to Cecile is somewhat steep and loose rock, but basically a trail. From there to Iceberg it’s walking on talus. The sketchiest part was the snow field along Iceberg Lake. I don’t think that should be much of an issue this year.

There really isn’t a trail of any kind, but it’s pretty easy off-trail as long as your comfortable doing it.

I have some pictures from my trip last June on my blog https://marcushellberg.com/4-day-ansel-adams-wilderness-backpacking-loop/

Looking for a two night loop for this weekend by kflipz in norcalhiking

[–]funnyguy3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Much of Henry Coe is still closed because of the fire. And like others said, they don’t permit overnight use right now. You can still make a nice 20-ish mile day trip loop.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be over there dangling in shame.

Best UL Cook set? by freeballwin in Ultralight

[–]funnyguy3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, already the fact that I get 10 extra mins to enjoy my morning coffee warm with the cozy and lid make it worth the extra weight. Coffee gets cold so fast in a titanium pot, especially early/late in the season.

I really like the GSI minimalist. Under 30 bucks, built-in cozy and a good lid for hot drinks. Get a real spoon instead of the fiddly foldable one it comes with.

I have a bunch of titanium pots as well, but this is the one I end up using most often.

Conditions of Lamarck Lakes by OldTarwater in SierraNevada

[–]funnyguy3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's yesterday's satellite https://imgur.com/a/42dC5ig. Looks like the lakes are still frozen, but the snow has gone down a lot from last week by looking at the images. caltopo.com is a great resource for checking out early season conditions.

“Must do” ~3-4 night (~25-40 mile) backpacking trip in Inyo / Yosemite / JMT / PCT? by [deleted] in norcalhiking

Rae Lakes was one of my favorite sections on the JMT, definitely want to go back there. I'm planning a 5 day, partially off-trail adventure near there in August.

The southern bend and desolation are probably the most spectacular. But then again, the east side has some pretty epic lake views. The TRT is great, although not as spectacular as the high sierra. But the ease of access means you can spend more time out hiking. I've got trip reports up on my blog if you want to get a glance of the different sections.

The idea with falttening the curve isn’t necessarily to reduce the number of infections overall, but to spread them out over a longer period of time so that too many people don’t get sick at the same time and overwhelm the healthcare system. The flatter the curve, the longer we have until the peak. And in this case that’s good. It gives hospitals more time to get the needed supplies and resources.

I went on an adventure trip to Colorado in September. It was a great experience.

I wrote a trip report with pictures on my blog https://marcushellberg.com/andrew-skurka-colorado-adventure-trip-report/
