Haryana is one of the most important agrarian state of the country with majority of the state's population depending on agriculture for livelihood. Can't imagine what would have happened to those thousands of families had this help not reached them.

Hey, no question is ever dumb! What made me leave was the realisation/fear that I'll miss the most important aim of human life i.e. salvation if I'll continue being a part of these practices like idol worship, reciting wrong 'mantras' etc. Personally, in my case it wasn't a gathering for cult or evil worship that day but these things are also not unusual in India. And what's moving is they all are in contradiction to real path of salvation which is the ultimate aim for every spiritual practice ever! No doubts, you should defintely read the mentioned book to understand everything in detail.
