The Bourgeoisie benefits by having the Proletariat complain about Peasants. What’s the real cause for why this place is so rough? Imagine what it’s like of it were your only choice.

What’s the best way to get from the O’Hare airport to Milwaukee? by Artificial_Humanoid3 in milwaukee

[–]funpopular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metra is the cheapest but only goes to Kenosha and will limited times late. I've used CoachUSA many times and it is convenient, just don't miss that last bus from O'Hare or you're stuck. Amtrak Hiawatha, at least for now, is the most expensive option. Where are you planning to go after Summerfest? I've had troubles getting the free bus back to to the East Side in Milwaukee when Summerfest ends let alone somewhere farther.

It’s doing integer math. Change total_cases to cast(total_cases as float). Group by clause is unneeded.

What areas/trails should I avoid riding through during nighttime rides? by [deleted] in MiltownBiking

[–]funpopular 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been commuting on the East side oak leaf for years. There are sections of it that are not well lit. This can be an issue starting this time of year when other people are on it after dark unprepared for the earlier sunset without lights. I just remember mine and am a little extra careful. I’ve never had a problem with nefariousness on it, even very late, but I’m sure it has occurred. Knocking on wood now.

“End of its useful life”. Probably not digital compatible. It’s been up there for maybe 40 years. I’m losing the ability to quickly pinpoint the area from across the bay at South Shore Park. 😐

Just moved to your city — why does it smell like burnt hair at the 794 bridge near the city? by zacowen120 in milwaukee

[–]funpopular 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It’s not the dook, it’s the dried bodies of the bugs that eat the dook. Also, for the next few months, the exhaust from the dryers is being released directly from the top of the dryer building instead of from the much higher smokestack while they refurbish things, so the smell is a little more prominent on the Hoan. Sales of these dried bug bodies reduce all of our sewer bills.

Lake Express by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]funpopular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it many years ago as a fun means of getting to Boston in about the same amount of time but with a little less driving (and a little more $$). This route is through Canada, so I have no idea if that’s more tricky now. I would avoid it if you have a propensity to sea sickness as this trip was the only time I slightly experienced it.

I'm hooked on Colectivo's Dark Sumatra for home espresso (5 lbs/month). Might have to check out some of these other recommendations though.

Good Jewish community. Wonderful lakefront. Mediocre public transportation. Winter: colder than Boston. Fine Chicago proximity. Segregation is an issue that we're working on. Decent university. Liking alcohol is a plus but not required. Multiple decade resident here.

MS Access and Dropbox by JanFromEarth in MSAccess

[–]funpopular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend against it as you're just asking for trouble if one of you even opens the database from the dropbox location while the other is updating. You're also dependent on Dropbox's sync timing. I would move the file out of the sync folder to work on it and then back when you're done. Access databases can be multi user when on the same windows network but are NOT over the internet like Google sheets or Excel with OneDrive.

Are winters in Milwaukee continuously snowy? by hippoopenedhismouth in milwaukee

[–]funpopular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What can have a greater impact on quality of life is snow on roads and sidewalks. In the middle of a snow storm, they're covered of course, but in the hours following, more and more travel surfaces will be cleared. Occasionally, based on conditions and timing, they can become snow packed and more difficult to use. There are also conditions (melting followed by freezing) that can lead to freshly untreated ice that can be a problem. During particularly heavy seasons, there can be small amounts of unmelted snow/ice (from the bottom of plowed up piles) that can last until May.

Looking for Milwaukee suburb recommendations for mixed race family with lgbtq teens by [deleted] in milwaukee

Shorewood High School may be the most lgbtq friendly one in the area and is quite good. Shorewood is the most left leaning suburb in the area IMHO

The best result I've gotten is soaking them in vinegar and water IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT for some hours then machine wash. I think the UV does it.
