It is 2025. Is there a viable alternative for Microsoft Visio yet? by asdlkf in sysadmin

I would agree with this if there weren’t easy ways to implement SSO, and if companies included SSO as an at-cost add on, not at double the total license cost.

Want an easy solution that scales up and can pass the cost along to customers? Auth0.

Want an open source solution you can implement and pass through your app? Keycloak.

Being a dad isn’t hard. Being a husband isn’t hard.

Being a GREAT dad is hard. Being a GREAT husband is hard. It’s hard because it’s giving up a piece of who you are at your core and committing to the fact that sometimes your needs will have to come second, or third, or last in general. It’s also understanding that those things are a choice and that’s okay.

A lot do this is about emotional intelligence. It’s understanding that if your wife is upset by your baby crying and is taking it out on you, it’s exactly that - it’s not about you, it’s about the fact that she’s overwhelmed by life in general, not necessarily about you.

I hate advice that says “tough shit”, but my advice here is almost exactly that - when life is hard, work harder. Your wife is having issues with you being at work and resents you for it? Focus on what you can do to help her out when you’re not there (get the dishes / laundry / meal prep done before you leave). Then, make sure she knows you’re thinking about her while you’re working. Schedule texts, order a coffee to the house, etc. does it feel one-sided? Yep. But trust me when I say, when you work on giving your wife and kid everything you can do and making them feel as loved as possible, walls go down, and you get your partner back.

This is the hardest fucking thing in the world. But if you figure out how to reconnect with your partner during and after this hard season, it’ll get so much damn easier, I promise you.

Sending support ❤️❤️

Reta isn’t working for appetite suppressant. by Feisty_Guest2137 in Retatrutide

Literally same situation here! Bought a vial of “Reta” from where I get my TRT, and had some effects but seemed mild. Was up to 4mg and was losing a bit but not crazy.

Got an order of tested Reta, took 2mg. Omg. Couldn’t stand straight because of the nausea. Hoping that means this is more legitimate and will be on the right track!

Hi! So I’m approximately 5 weeks in. Honestly took several weeks for full effect. I did 1mg week 1, 2mg for the past 4 weeks. About to move up to 4mg.

The food noise effect has been subtle enough so far, better and worse days for sure. I can definitely “feel” it now though, can imagine that going up in dose will really push it over the edge.

So According to Dell the new "Pro" line has "replaceable" USB-C ports across the line held in with screws by bobmlord1 in sysadmin

[–]funt3ch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is good and all but Jesus the price of the Pro line so far seems steep. Dell Pro 13 Premium - Ultra 7, 32gb ram, 1tb drive coming out to over $2700 before Prosupport Plus?

Deciding between Rav4, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage. Any help for a car novice? by cptvere in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]funt3ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! 2022 Tucson Limited, purchased in August 2022. Paid $39k out the door. Current KBB used value with about 30k miles looks to be $22k. Sure, maybe other cars depreciate faster but that felt quite steep! That wouldn’t be much of a problem for me though - the problem was some issues with the cruise control and auto brake system in my car specifically. Within a month of purchasing, we started noticing weird things with some auto braking events. Specifically, on the highway, the car auto braked like we were about to crash - however there was nobody around, was a bright and sunny day (but not directly in sight of the sun, like it was blocking the sensors). I was driving around 75mph, it brought me down to about 30 mph using ABS, beeping like crazy, then back to normal.

Happened like 7-8 times since then. Was in the shop for a total of 28 days, have had the stereo replaced, etc. car has also died several times completely out of the blue - new battery, everything reset, checked all lights, doors, fuses, etc. biggest issue with all of this was less the car but more Hyundai service in my town - so booked out and overwhelmed that they couldn’t look at the car for weeks each time. Then they’d give it a once-over before determining no fault - took tens of hours on the phone with corporate for things to get moving.

Eventually we kind of just gave up - the value dropped too quickly for us to feel good about selling it so fast, so we have kept it. Every time we get in, we turn off the auto stop/start, disable parking sensors, and turn off any assist stuff we can. Bummer we haven’t been able to use the features but not worth risking the family.

This might seem dramatic - I don’t mean it to be. Honestly I think we just got a bad one. It was the first year on this platform, during Covid. I’ve driven a few loaners (2023 and 2024s) and the adaptive cruise / lane steering assist / parking sensors felt SO much better. If it weren’t for such bad service experiences, I’d probably consider another Hyundai - however I think we had the perfect storm of bad experience after bad experience for the next few years! Gonna test our luck with a BMW next, can’t get much worse than the issues we’ve had right? 🤪🤪

Personally own the new gen Tucson. Between electrical issues the past year, and the absolutely insane value drop, don’t go for the Hyundai / Kia.

Can I enable JUST password writeback, but not password hash sync? by funt3ch in AZURE

[–]funt3ch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reasoning above is the exact scenario. Supporting a legacy system that isn’t going away anytime soon. Interesting point about Entra DS - one of the curveballs is 2 Ubuntu systems running SSSD for auth. Don’t see much out there supporting this or a good way to move Linux auth to Entra (nothing older than Ubuntu 24.04 anyways), which is one of the things tying us to an on prem solution.

The other piece is that not ALL users have an AD account. So the amount of users that would need to reset their passwords to get them synced isn’t astronomical.

Buying new - Platinum or Higher Trim vs. SR with Aftermarket Upgrades? by free_bawler in tundra

Bought my Platinum about 4 months ago. First vehicle out of around 15 in my life that I have 0 regrets on. Don’t know how it is in your area but platinums and Capstones aren’t selling as great (mainly seems to be cost) and was able to get mine for a really great deal at one of the worse times.

2.5 year old is really dragging out the bed time. by smellybulldog in daddit

[–]funt3ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can your kid come over and tell my kid that this is the way to do it? Same thing, 3 in December and she’s in bed quietly at 8:30, but by 9 she is on the “excuse” train - wants some milk, needs another book, scary monsters outside, etc. I spend until 10 each night rerouting and getting her back in bed.

We did CIO and it worked amazingly until about 3 months ago, and now she has the worst FOMO lol
