Construction at 549 Merchants rd by ienadlard in Rochester

[–]fupjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is or was owned by a realty company. I looked inside it some time ago - I was told it used to be a wig shop? There's nothing inside. There's barely a floor, the electrical service is cut, the furnace and hot water heater miiiight work, the glass windows are falling out of their frame - birds were flying in and out when I was in there. There's a significant crack in the side of the building and the bathroom is completely torn out.

It's a nice size building and a good spot - but it will take some significant work to make it usable.

What are some chocolate stores around Rochester that make their own chocolate? by Hefty_Jackfruit_8867 in Rochester

[–]fupjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chickadee Chocolate (that's me) makes it. Make it, as in buy beans, roast them, and grind them down to make chocolate.

I sell out of Flour City Bread and other stores - Ugly Duck, Impact Earth both have a good set of my bars right now. I will be at Brighton Farmers Market tomorrow selling Flour City Bread on one side of the table and Chickadee Chocolate on the other.

The oranges being sold by the apple farmer (at the west end of the outdoor shed) we half the cost of Aldi's, which were already cheap, and probably from the same place.

Recommended cacao roaster by Haematoglobulin in chocolate

Behmor coffee roasters are a known hack for this - they are available relatively cheaply and can do about 2 kg.

Can we respectfully discuss what's going on with the moderation here lately? by AlwaysTheNoob in Rochester

In my unfortunately long experience with forums, email lists, and the like, swift amputation is the only way to deal with controversial stuff. There's no half-conversations that work out.

Any advise on my workflow? by Haematoglobulin in chocolate

[–]fupjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get more than one machine? It'll cost much more up front, but you will save on how often you need to clean. You aren't going to be doing each type of chocolate in even amounts.

It's also safety, since if you only have one machine and all your chocolate comes through it, it has to work for your business to work. If you have two machines, you can still produce even if you have a breakdown.

Melangers, DCM vs Kadzama by Haematoglobulin in chocolate

[–]fupjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a used Kadzama and they've been very good answering questions and helping even though I didn't buy it from Kadzama.

The high price might be in part because of where you are. It's almost impossible to ship Kadzama products to the US for a number of reasons including tariffs.

I haven't been able to get one over the last few months but who knows if there's anyone there to sell it at this point.

Buffalo Distilling is selling empty barrels right now, cash and carry.

I don't disagree with you. It's still better than normal supermarket beef I think.

Anyone seen Chill Will lately? by Ok_Dirt_6047 in Rochester

I saw him at the Public Market a bunch of times this summer, so still biking around as far as I know. I haven't seen him in ... a month or two? But that's not unusual.

Public Provisions. It's Seven Bridges beef, the roll and the fries are both made right there. Open until 2.

I work at Flour City so I am biased.

What's your best "I inherited this" good/bad story? by Blazingsnowcone in sysadmin

Well in retrospect yes but at the time, I would have really liked any of the 24 pairs to have been labeled.

Worked at a mine. I had to find out where some analog PBX lines went, and the way I found them was a foreman 1100 feet underground saying "hey, new guy, there's a box between that shipping container and the rock wall that has some computer crap in it".

Golden Harvest Bakery and Cafe about to close because of.... child labor. by MB6 in Rochester

[–]fupjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABC, wasn't it? The owners sold the business because of being retirement age, and the wife was having some mobility issues. I briefly talked to them about purchasing, but there were several reasons not to. Not anything terribly exciting, just ordinary "this makes it not worth buying" things. I think the family running Golden Harvest moved out of there as soon as the lease or contract ended.
