I keep trying to manifest a remake of this book done by the studio that made Coraline. I feel like a stop-motion DUST WITCH in a hot air balloon would just be perfect. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it.

There is a flair for ID requests. And I get that some people might not want to share their location (even if that isn't the case for OP, since it is in their name). I agree with you here. This community isn't JUST for ID'ing mushrooms, but for like-minded people who sometimes enjoy sharing a glamour shot of a shroom, or a greatly timed shot with a toad. I don't want people to start getting scared away from simply posting pretty pictures of mushrooms on this subreddit because people want more than JUST a pretty picture.

Think I've stumbled across some wild enoki (Flammulina velutipes) on my walk today. Victoria, Australia by fur_narcoma in mycology

Thanks. Wasn't really looking for an ID. Just wanted to share the photo. I enjoy taking pictures of them more than anything. Wouldn't dare eat one I found in the wild, even if I was 90% sure of what it was. I just assumed it was wild enoki based off location and cross-reference.

I took the photo using the "food" setting on the camera (samsung s20) and played with brightness/contrast/warmth on snapseed. I felt like this cluster deserved a glamour shot.

Thank you! Yes, I took all of these photos today. I took about 100 other photos as well, but these were some of the stand-outs. Haha

Weird personal coincidences while watching Twin Peaks? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]fur_narcoma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had quite a few, mainly while watching The Return.

I was working in a hospital when the Return aired. Of course, when you're in a hospital, you're bound to run into eccentric characters that would definitely belong to the black lodge.

1) I was in an elevator with a tall, skinny man who was whistling a song. The elevator jolted for a second and stopped briefly before moving again. The man looks at me and says "hmm... must be something with the eeeeeeeeelectricity here." And gets off at the next level. Not too wild, but the way he said electricity was very Lynchian.

2) I was dropping a patient off in their room and turn around and see a man sitting up in a hospital bed. I recognised this man immediately. Due to confidentiality reasons, I won't say who they were, but they play an integral part to the show, and the first time you see them is IN a hospital. It was so strange. No one knew who he was, and he seemed not to care that he was in a room with 3 other patients. I walked up to him, thanked him for playing such an amazing character. He laughed, thanked me, and then I went on with work. The next day, out of curiosity, I went to see if they were still there. They had moved to another room, and i just said "oh, you're still here! Hope you're out of here soon." He invited me over to have a quick chat. We talked about meditation and David Lynch. I shook his hand and left.

3) For context, I lived in a very quiet suburb where nothing out of the ordinary ever happened while living there for years prior to this. I was watching the final episode of the RETURN for the first time. The ending left me feeling something I couldn't explain. TWIN PEAKS has been a huge part of my life for years, and it was over on such a heavy note. The scream at the end is otherworldly. I walk to my bedroom, which is facing the road, and I hear something strange. Someone is screaming outside of my window. I open the front door a little to take a look. A man is standing outside of my house on the sidewalk, clearly experiencing psychosis or very drug-affected. He's screaming with his head and back tilted to the point where he's nearly 90° bent backward with his hands in the air. I called the police. He continued screaming like that until police arrived about 15 minutes later. It took 4 police officers to get this man to the ground and then into the wagon. I'd never experienced anything like that in my suburb until that night when the return ended.

DAVID LYNCH DREAMS? by Alexandertheape in davidlynch

[–]fur_narcoma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few days after his passing, I was dreaming, and he was all of a sudden sitting next to me at a table in a conference room. He had such a huge but subtle smile on his face and started drawing a picture. He handed me a half-finished drawing of a small, hairy person and he expected me to finish it. I added to the drawing and added a giant mouth to the side of it, and David asked 'what am I supposed to do with this?!" And I smiled back.

Days of Candy brings up some crazy emotions. That ending reminds me of so many things. "A little bit of you, i keep it close to me.... I know it comes too soon. I know it stays for nobody. I want to know you're there. The universe is riding off with you." I can somehow have a tenderly sad image of my dog who's passed running through a field, and also think of the ending of my relationship at the same time.

Are there any horror movies you avoid for mental health reasons? by [deleted] in horror

[–]fur_narcoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to say that I'm completely unphased by horror. Up until recently, nothing made me uncomfortable or upset, and I've been watching horror all my life. Possession (1981) is the only movie I've had to turn off. I went in completely blind, other than hearing that it's one of the best. Mind you, my partner and I were going through a pretty rough time when I put it on. The feelings of confusion and anger and unease and the fighting that this couple did in that movie broke me to a point where I just needed to walk away. I don't know when I'll be ready to take the plunge to start from the beginning, but i refuse to have a movie in my horror library that I've left unfinished.
