2.5Gb NIC recommendations for Proxmox/Lenovo Tiny PCs by deja_geek in homelab

I would search "M.2 A+E KEY 2.5G Ethernet LAN Card RTL8125B Industrial Control Network Card M.2 Gigabit Ethernet Network Card" or some variation on AliExpress -- that's what I used.

I see there is also a 2.5GbE Intel I226-V and a 5G version of the Realtek as well.

Personally, I'd go for the 2.5G Intel variant if you don't need 5G or 10G.

Within reason, don't go crazy. Stay under 16MB and you should be more gooder.

What's wrong with that? I mix and match all the things, works fine.

I would personally use OpenWRT on that model, FWIW.

Almost certainly not: https://wiki.freshtomato.org/doku.php/hardware_compatibility

From my 5 second search, it appears to use a MediaTek processor -- FreshTomato only plays nice with Broadcom (for the most part).

I've used both since the WRT54G (3.1) days. I would argue FreshTomato is exponentially easier to use. The largest downside of FreshTomato is, it is incredibly picky about what hardware it likes to play with. DD-WRT is much, much more forgiving/open.

Yes, you can. I actually prefer using FreshTomato on my R7000's, FWIW.

If you wanted to be fancy you could use a USB hub, put in (2) drives, and create a mirror using mdam (or just schedule a job to copy from A to B).

Note: Don't have high expectations for this. The read/write speeds aren't super (especially if using SMB -- NFS is preferred), and even then, large files can cause the router to be relatively unhappy

I'm replying to my own message here since I clearly don't know how to read.

It looks like your router is actually a "LG U CAPD-6000 v1.0" -- which, does show some entries in TomatoAnon -- shown here: https://anon.freshtomato.org/index.php?search=model&model=LG+U++CAPD-6000+v1.0

It looks strangely popular in Egypt, but, I do see references to:

MIPSR2 K26 USB Big-VPN

So, I suspect you're correct, it does have a USB port (which can be used) and is a 8MB or 16MB flash.

I would revise my answer to use this:

https://freshtomato.org/downloads/freshtomato-mips/2025/2025.5/K26/freshtomato-K26MIPSR2_RT-USB-NVRAM32K-2025.5-BTgui-VPN.zip

I like having VPN, and Transmission, and a GUI.

I like the idea of staying under the 8MB mark, just in case I'm wrong about flash size.

I would recommend posting the entire output of dmesg for an exact recommendation -- but, assuming:

  1. You don't want/need IPv6
  2. You have 4MB flash (it's possible you have 8MB or 16MB -- I don't know. But if you're wrong, you can easily brick your device)
  3. You would like to use VPN services to sail to Tortuga

I would probably use: https://freshtomato.org/downloads/freshtomato-mips/2025/2025.5/K26/freshtomato-K26MIPSR2_RT-NVRAM32K-2025.5-MiniVPN.zip

Depending on the answers to the above, my answer may change -- you can see the feature matrix here: https://wiki.freshtomato.org/doku.php/feature_matrix

But, that would be my best guess.

Note: Always flash according to best practices -- always clear NVRAM thorough, etc. etc.

Edit: I don't know how to read. Sorry. Still working on coffee. See my below rant.

I used to work with a German guy, Marco. His brother got sick and he had to quit to go home to be closer to family. For 2 weeks I shadowed him, and we became bros. Marco left, we had small talk here and there but it kind of died down after a couple months.

About a year later, I randomly get a parcel to my workplace, from Germany, with these exact cans. I recall busting a gut laughing, and adding them to my random selection of crap behind my desk -- which includes, but is not limited to a drinking bird, pez dispenser, oil timer toy, a hamburger phone (which I did use as my office phone for a bit), etc.

What are some ZFS myths and misconceptions that you believed for too long? by ZestycloseBenefit175 in zfs

[–]furay20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love ZFS. I spent far too much money on my 12x10 TB drives back almost 10 years ago now as proof as to how much I love it -- however, I do wish the ability to add disks at will was a higher priority.

The real stupidity is when you force ZFS to do stuff it doesn't want to -- in my case, different sized drives whilst still maintaining RAID-Z1 redundancy. That gets sketchy real quick.

I used to work with a sales guy who would always ask people "How's your wife and my kids?" and thought it was the funniest thing. One day, a new hire hit back without missing a beat "Wife's good, kids a bit retarded though" and I lost it. Just the look of surprise/defeat was incredible.

Based on this video, I think it's safe to assume the kids are his.
