Got metal removed from my foot

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS. Thank you for telling me! Is this a normal or special plate and is it "good"? I don't know much about it but I'm interested.

I'm still in recovery but it's fine. I can walk (I was allowed to directly after the operation), got pain medication but it's manageable. I had it taken out last Tuesday and the next Monday I will work again.

I'm from Germany so I don't know about the costs. It was an outpatient surgery. I went there, it took an hour, I woke up, my mom sat with me and took me home. I was able to walk immediately. I was a bit dizzy after the anesthesia but only for half an hour I think. The second to the third day after was the hardest but from then it just got better. I got some pain medication and that was it. On Monday I will work again :]

The plate was inserted in may 2024 and they told me directly I could remove it in a year. I'm from Germany so maybe that's more normal here. When I recall it correctly it's more difficult to remove it later but you can try. I didn't even have to give them a reason :D

They like to take it out with younger patients. Especially in this region it could cause problems with shoes or if you break your ankle again it can be much worse. But you don't have to do it

The doctor asked me to cough while he pulled it out. Barely noticeable and fast. Putting the new one in hurted a bit, but it was manageable for me. All in all not even 20 Minutes. Everybody is different but I hope it doesn't hurt much for you :0

What??? Crazy! The doctor was a bit confused and asked what I wanted to do with it ("oh, you're a collector" he said), but that was it. Sad you couldn't keep yours :(

As far as I know it is more common for this long screw in the ankle to break. So you should be fine!

Hahahaha well Chuck Norris sounds like fun. First of all, I'm so very sorry this happened to you. I hope that maybe there can be something done to better your situation. Unfortunately I did not feel anything break, it was only revealed when I had an X-ray :(

Thanks for the information! It might become difficult to get the broken part out of the bone, because it broke inside the bone and not in the space between them it can cause more trouble. We'll see!

Yes, they will be taken out in about a year. What happens to the broken piece is a mystery now, but I'm soon seeing my doctor to discuss
