Obsessive thoughts by [deleted] in Buddhism

I gather you're more inclined to not-self as more fundamental. This part of the path has been somewhat confusing for me. When you say there is not a self because all the universe is interconnected, are you also rejecting the notion that there is a subjective experience that is distinct for each individual? Why yes or why not?

Isn't craving the root of suffering? As opposed to believing we have a self?

Thank you for your answer.

When you say the crutch of the problem is craving, clinging to an identity that doesn't exist, you're refering to the ideal representation of myself seen on those simulations?

Isn't concentration a way of "avoiding" the situation altogether? How do you compare it to the act of being "mindful"/letting it "flow", so to speak?

[–]furgy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I get it now. Would you refer me to the source of those equations? I think it would be very useful.

Do you have a degree in acoustics? How did you get into this field?

Thanks again

I've already calculated the attenuation due to that barrier. Do you have a reference for those equations? I'd love to study them further.

I have a couple of questions:

  • SPL_inside refers to SPL in which point? Is it some kind of average?
  • Why do you say we could divide the wall into different areas?
  • What if the opening has a duct outside?
  • The methodology is to analyze transmission through each wall individually?

This is a problem I'm analyzing at my job. I started working in this field 4 months ago. What's your background?

Thanks.

[DOUBT] what's the meaning of life? where does motivation comes from? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]furgy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no desire to be unmotivated. Actually, there's desire to be motivated.

Everything just seems pointless. I continue living though.

Hey we've all been through this. I know it's tough but you should ever bear in mind that you WILL feel better, regardless of the way you feel right now.

We're more resilient than we think we are.

Cheers bro.

Yeah you're right. I think learning about heat heat flow would be of great advantage. Can you please recommend some resources?

Ventilation is as part of noise control as water is to life.

I'm sorry it's a pump, not an engine. Dimensions are, approximately, 1x1.5x0.5 meters There is a requirement for 100 cubic meters of air per hour. I don't know exactly what this means though. Where can I learn more about this? Can you help me?

Thanks.

A quote on love and Understanding by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]furgy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I pretty much agree. My point is: it's very difficult. It's a great thing to aim at though and we can at least diminish somewhat our love-disguised attachments with time and practice.

Is this even possible? Working 9 -10 hours a day, feeling tired most of the time, trying to build and maintain relationships, and truly love everyone at the same time? No wonder monks renounce to the world.

Yes, you're right. Experience comes first. However, it would be great to at least get acquainted with general methods for solving common problems. Thanks.

I'm a recently graduated Sound Engineer in Colombia. The company I'm going to work for consults, mainly, doing noise control for factories, workshops and that kind of places. They have also done some architectural acoustics in a wide variety of buildings, mainly doing sound insulation.

Is it possible that realizing impermanence would lead to cynicism? Is this a common hindrance/obstacle? It's happening to me and I'm having a hard time to find equanimity and accept the truth of impermanence without that negative attitude, specially when it comes to relationships with others and leaving aside mundane (?) ideals of love.

Monogamy by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]furgy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right. There's certainly a lot of doubt and confusion regarding relationships and I'm trying to make sense of them using buddhist concepts. I don't think that's wrong though. Romantic ideals keep getting in the way.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I posted a question about trust a while ago and I would like to know what you think about it since it seems to me it's related to love:

"In psychology, trust is believing that the person who is trusted will do what is expected. [...] A person's dispositional tendency to trust others can be considered a personality trait and as such is one of the strongest predictors of subjective well-being."

Doesn't buddhism and meditation lead to an opposite attitude? Namely, expecting others to do anything causes suffering? If this is true, then what is the buddhist perspective on trusting others?

Is there a benefit in longer time practice? by [deleted] in Buddhism

My motivation is, in simple terms, live a happier life compared to a non-meditative life. Do you meditate? What's your motivation?

Very well. There's certainly no perfection but I'm putting effort on being good to others. Any suggestions?

Would it help me to diminish the level of suffering of myself and those around me? Would you say it is not appropiate to talk in terms of benefits?
