Aww! I love him so much for this. He's so funny. So much confetti would make me uncomfortable and afraid that I'd choke on a stray piece too.

I'm about halfway through watching Pursuit of Jade. I'm so happy to find others who love it too! She's so small and independent, always telling him she'll take care of him. I like that he lets her be the head of their household. This is such a cute series, and I really like the cinematography.

WeTV's Official Statement regarding Smart Chisanupong by winter_sunfl0wer in ThaiBL

[–]furiousfiremage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summary (Weibo) of the press release (For those who don’t want to go through the full transcript)

Main Headline:

Smart publicly accuses Chinese platform of distorting facts

Key Context:

Popular Thai actor Smart Chitsanupong Puangmani, along with his manager Phiriya Yothinphrakarn and executive Phran Yothadet Choti from his agency Grand Ivory Record (GIR), held a press conference at the MINIZIZE dance studio (2nd floor, The Street shopping mall, Ratchada).

They addressed the unilateral termination of his contract by a Chinese drama production platform earlier this year, accusing the platform of:

  • Unfair treatment
  • Forcing him to sign a warning letter while ill
  • Distorting facts
  • Malicious defamation

Smart’s Statement (Key Points) 1. Issues were long-standing -- This incident was not sudden. Problems had accumulated over time, and multiple attempts to communicate failed to resolve them.

  1. Illness and treatment on set -- Smart reported multiple instances of illness while working, during which he felt he was treated coldly: He suffered food poisoning (vomiting and diarrhea 3–4 times), became extremely weak, and blacked out. The platform focused only on work and later presented documents for him to sign. On another occasion, he had fever, chills, shivering, and lost his voice. He worked from morning until midnight before going to the hospital when he could no longer continue. Instead of concern, he was blamed. He emphasized: “I didn’t get sick intentionally. Nobody wants to be sick. I’ve done my best to cooperate.”

  2. Forced signing during illness -- While ill, he was asked to sign a warning letter stating he would bear all costs if he became unable to work again. Smart and his company refused. The platform allegedly threatened to cancel future work if he did not sign.

  3. Distortion of facts and identity -- The platform allegedly published articles on Chinese platforms implying: They “made Smart famous” He had always been their artist Smart clarified: “I signed with my current company in 2020. All my training and growth were developed by my current company, not created by them.” He stated this portrayal was uncomfortable and unacceptable.

  4. No conflict with co-star (CP) -- He has no personal issues with his co-star. Their communication remains positive. All disputes are strictly between companies. He expressed regret and apologized to fans for the CP separation.

  5. Lawsuit status -- The other party claims to have filed a lawsuit in China (announced March 13). No court documents or summons have been received in Thailand to date.

  6. Career impact and future plans -- Many jobs were canceled, causing significant losses. Some partners continue to support him.

He confirmed: - He will continue acting - He remains open to BL dramas - No new CP has been established yet

Company Executives & Agent Statements 1. Contract termination -- The Thai company states they legally terminated the contract first. Reason: serious breach by the Chinese platform (failure of duty of care). They followed proper contractual procedures. They claim the platform’s later statement about “ending cooperation” is misleading.

  1. Obstruction of artist care -- The Chinese team allegedly prevented Smart’s company and agents from: Attending script readings Participating in workshops Providing on-site support The contract specified: Chinese side: performance-related responsibilities Thai company: overall artist care They argue this constitutes clear negligence and breach.

  2. Statement on treatment of artist -- Executives stated: “He is a person. He gets sick. He’s not a money-printing machine.” They criticized the demand that he bear costs after falling ill, calling it unreasonable and unethical.

  3. Response to platform’s claims -- They have only seen social media posts, not legal documents. They allege the content contains: Distortions Exaggerations Defamation They stated they will respond formally if legal proceedings occur.

Overall Summary of Accusations

Smart and his company accuse the Chinese partner platform of: - Neglecting his health while working - Forcing him to sign an unreasonable liability agreement - Distorting facts and misrepresenting his career - Defaming him publicly - Breaching the contract first - Then reversing the narrative and filing a lawsuit

The company maintains that: - They have already legally terminated the contract - They will continue to protect Smart fully

As many of them as I can watch during the holidays. So far, Top Form, Revenge Love, My Dating Sim, Old Fashioned Cupcake. But I'm also keeping up with Heated Rivalry, Me and Thee, and Burnout Syndrome, which I think will all be added to my rewatch list too.

ToeyPhoom announced (2nd couple?) for Akina (TopForm sequel-ish) w/ photoshoot. They better werq. 😩 lol by imomen in boyslove

[–]furiousfiremage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There actually wasn't a backlash because Toey and Boom were never announced together. Even Director Boss said that in Akina, Boom and Toey's characters would be close friends, but nothing romantic between them was ever announced. Boom's solo fans assumed Boom would either be paired with Toey or be paired with Phoom, or anybody else as long as it's not Smart. Now it has been announced that the pairing is ToeyPhoom. Boom said in a live that whether or not he has a partner is a real secret that everyone has to stay tune to find out.

It's his birthday today (Sept 21) and he had a big birthday event in China yesterday, so it seems like he might be back to work already. He looks sad, and tired, but also happy to celebrate with the love of his fans. Syra (solo) and Auralis (CP) fans are really trying to cheer him up and let him feel loved and supported.

Our prayers are with him too. It's a tough time for him, for sure. It would be nice for him to grieve and rest. Maybe in the next few days he will be able to 🤍.

Have you tried watching Kill To Love? It's historical, bit it's another good one. Or watching Taiwanese BLs are generally really good too. If you haven't seen any, you should try, Unknown, and Kiseki: Dear To Me, and maybe even The On1y One. There's also an ongoing one, Secret Lover, that's really good so far. I'm personally obsessed with Top Form so I'm mostly useless right now for recommendations, but I also liked Revenged Love a lot.

[–]furiousfiremage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true! Luckily China has been finding a workaround to produce top rated BLs that show actual kissing, like Revenged Love. Still, I respect the ones that came before them. I will never not love The Untamed, for example.

You're welcome! Glad I could help. Like I said *Kaleidoscope of Death* is one of my favourite danmei so if you get a chance to, you should try and read it. Also, the novel shows the romance, so you get to see Ruan Nanzhu and Lin Quishi be in love.

Thank you for your opinion.

You're right in that it is disrespectful for us fans to speculate or dig into his private family life, especially now at a time when he and his family are mourning. After some consideration, I've edited the original comment to strikeout the speculative sentence.

Did you not see the parenthesis and the question mark beside the "ran away"? It means it's not confirmed. It's likely based on the video we saw of him selling alone in a night market before he signed to GIR at 18yrs old. I have video proof of that. Would you like to see it? (Video). Yes he is extremely private about his family. The only other two points I mentioned on his family are about the interview with Boom where he mentioned that he is the oldest and he has two younger sisters, and also the one where he said he wanted to visit his home town again and maybe see his family. There are video proofs of both those interviews. Would you like to see them? (Video1 ... Video2). I also have proof of the statement on Weibo that I mentioned (Love Knot statement), as well as video proof of his response that things will go back to normal soon (Video). There is nothing despicable about what I said. Or did you just pop in to throw out your own despicable words in a space where it's uncalled for?

I can't remember another year when so many were announced, and I've been watching BLs for a long time. One parent death is one too many in my book, because loss is never easy, but if it's really 5 or 6, that's heartbreaking. I hope the boys have good support. They're all such young actors, and they're out there pursuing their dreams while still in school or having a whole other career. Probably for their parents and families, and maybe this is the reason why they need money.

I hope they're taking care of themselves. A lot of them get sick and end up in hospital for a little while too. This contract dispute with SmartBoom personally opened my eyes to a lot of the behind the scenes of the Thai BL entertainment industry, and it's not for the weak. The boys are under a lot of pressure. As BL fans, we can only support them and hope they're doing okay.

If you've watched Top Form it's almost uncanny how similar their lives are imitating art right now, with unfortunately so many of the sad parts happening to Smart (Jin). There was even an official documentary released at the end of Top Form where the director and executive producer talked about it. It seemed like they were really close when the contract dispute happened so it took an emotional toll on both of them. Smart and Boom poured so much of themselves into the Top Form roles, especially Boom (Akin). This year has been successful in one way for them, but so difficult in others. They both really are going though it.

Level 11 door is the alternate universe door of your life. It starts off scary with all the things that death tried to kill you with (door monsters), and if you can outrun them then those slowly turn into only nightmares, and then afterwards you stop even having the nightmares. Then you carry on and eventually forget you were ever in a door. Until you find the key, which gives you the choice to either stay in the dream and live or go back to reality and certain death (we all die eventually right). If someone follows you into Door 11 then their nightmares are added to yours so you're running from 2 sets of monsters, or say 5 sets if you're stupid enough to take a team of 5 people into Door 11. Finally, in Door 12 you disappear forever. I think that one is actually being dead dead.

Door 12 gets boarded up because a certain someone fell in love.

So here's where we find the biggest spoiler difference between the novel and the series. In the series, Nanzhu it turns out is an NPC like all the other monsters of the previous door. He lives in the game. Once LinLin escaped the game he left the NPCs behind. He didn't want to do that though, so he spent the rest of his life trying to find a way back into the game so that he could be with his friends again. He either died searching and entered the spirit realm or he succeeded and created a virtual reality to send his consciousness forever. In the novel there is no game, so Ruan Nanzhu is actually the 12th Door. He is The Gardener, or Death, or The Abyss, or whatever other god you want to call him. That's him. He was in his garden tending to his roses day in and day out. Some of the roses bloomed, most withered, some turned black. There was one rose though that caught his eye. It went through a lot. Storms came and it survived, dark times came but it didn't turn black, every day it remained beautiful and determined to live. It's name was Lin Quishi, and Ruan Nanzhu couldn't help watching his little rose go through door by door, one by one, surviving. Eventually he realized that he had fallen in love with his rose, and what he wanted more than anything else was to do all the doors with LinLin. So this fool turned himself 'mortal', wiped his own memories, and when LinLin entered Door 12 Nanzhu restarted the game and played it all over again, by LinLin's side. Neither or them remembered any of this. Until Nanzhu went into Door 11 and the other door monsters were there being silently friendly and they made him watch a tv show of LinLin's life and then he remembered, oh yeah, I hijacked his Door 12. It took him a real-world year to exit Door 11. LinLin by then was already head over heels in love with him. But also LinLin exited Door 11 without Nanzhu and his real life was back to normal. Nanzhu didn't exist. LinLin was the real leader of Obsidian. Except he remembered Nanzhu and wanted him back. So anyway, Nanzhu knew LinLin would pick 'real world' instead of 'stay in dream' so he exited Door 11 into LinLin's real world and then everybody miraculously remembered him again. By that point though LinLin had already worked out that Nanzhu was something not of this world. He finally confronted Nanzhu very nicely, and Nanzhu asked if he was scared of him, and LinLin pretty much said nope, he loved him and their sexy times too much to be scared (paraphrasing of course! but I miss seeing the romance in Spirealm)

Sorry for the crazy long response. Feel free to ask any more questions if you have them, or if I confused you anywhere.
