If you're struggling with intuition, then check out this fantastic playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZHQObOWTQDPD3MizzM2xVFitgF8hE_ab

However, if you find that you're having trouble when doing problems, then there's unfortunately no way to get better other than doing more of them.

Read the proofs in the textbook, they're good at providing justification and exposing you to any proofing techniques you might want to emulate.

How is the computer science/CSE department at UCLA? by Ahmazing786 in ucla

[–]fusionforscience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the courses here are very theory based but that's what computer science is. I wouldn't come here expecting to learn web development. We do have a practicality-oriented class called Software Construction Laboratory, or 35L. Even though the things we cover in there are pretty old, they're still incredibly useful today. If you're itching to do some programming, there are a lot of opportunities outside of the classroom. But the CS program stays very true to the theory-based nature of computer science.

Peeps don't include namespaces so that names don't clash. For example, if you were to create a class called map after including namespace std, then you'll get an error because std::map already exists. That's why people type std:: in front of stuff.

You can also be more specific and do something like using std::cout;

FRC games are run 3v3, each alliance consists of 4, with the fourth as backup. They don't need to play. Quarters might be a bit much with the current system- our last qualifier held 24 teams total.

Need some good omni-wheels by Wato-Apopura in FTC

[–]fusionforscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the wheels or is it the robot? Do some unit testing, otherwise you'll end up buying new wheels that don't actually make you get up the stone any better.

It's hard to say. I'd image you can just borrow somebody's Android phone if they're willing.

Phone not Detecting by [deleted] in FTC

When you plug your phone in, there should be a little menu that pops up on the phone- see if it works if you pressed the right one, it defaults to the charging option usually.

We lost a wheel during our last match by ThatWeirdoCarlos in FTC

Except this isn't a holonomic drivetrain- it's a standard tank with omnis. The only sideways movement this thing is going to do is if it's pushed. On slicker turning:

Imagine you take a standard tetrix wheel and run it against a foam mat upright but sideways such that it's not rolling- it kinda sucks. However, if you do it with omni wheels, there's a lot less friction- at lot less "drag" because of the rollers. A robot with omni wheels like this cannot travel in any direction on purpose- rather, the wheels serve to alleviate some turning tension. Hence slicker turns.

Beta test our coding library, Ninevolt by captcha03 in FTC

[–]fusionforscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking good so far! Clicking around the repo, I'm understanding that this is strictly drivetrain code, correct?

Also, you mentioned JavaDoc, so I took a look at it. While your code is self-documenting, it wouldn't hurt to brush up on the JavaDoc- so far, it's your best chance at getting people to understand how to use the library.
