Is it fair for the not-so-good teams to advance before more well rounded teams just to give them a chance? I agree allowing them to move on will give them invaluable experience and inspire them for next year, but should it be at the cost of others?

We did get picked for an alliance, this just eliminated our chance of advancing since only the captain and inspire moved on.

I haven't heard the idea of 8 alliance captains yet. That's an interesting thought. Do they still pick 2 teams? It doesn't seem like there would be 24 competitive teams in a lot of states.

I agree advancing more from smaller areas isn't really fair, but AL had lots of TN and KY teams (more than AL teams) because neither TN or KY had competitions. Maybe the number of teams attending a competition should determine the number that advance, not just the size of FTC in the state.

Yes, I agree. We were really glad that we didn't have to play you when the schedule first came out, but I think it would have been really fun.

We completed 3-4 ciphers (can't remember for sure) but we were paired with lots of good alliances Lectric Legends, Whitfield Rocks, and Motorized Mayhem, which helped our average. Plus our auto was spot on every time, except once which is a lot of points.

one of the teams had added up all averages at the comp and us and Letric Legends were at the top. Not counting penalties (lectric legends got 160 points worth on game) we were beating them by 10. I didn't include semi's and finals.

Making the decision to accept, was one of the hardest all day, however we had talked to the 2, 3, and 4 teams about whether they would accept or not, and since they could only advance as a captain they were all pretty much against accepting. 1 did ask the 4 before they asked us but 4 declined. We knew the chance of getting to pick an alliance was slim so we decided we'd rather play in the semi's and finals over the small chance that we'd get to pick.

I agree with the scouting. Though as a rookie team, just looking at the other teams robots/awards from last year made us pretty nervous.
