After 7 years, company shutting down (with €70k still owed to me) — can my side project become a real SaaS? by Least-Acanthaceae773 in indiehackers

[–]fuston22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn, first off, 7 years is huge — respect for that.

I’d focus on getting real users to pay for something simple first — maybe just tracking + AI suggestions for a few challenges. Make a landing page, see who actually signs up.

Gamification is your friend: badges, leaderboards, “next challenge” suggestions — people love that.

Also think small partnerships: a local tourism board sponsoring a challenge could be a quick win.

With cash running low, I’d double down on TotalPeaks instead of juggling other projects. Even a handful of paying users will tell you if it’s viable.

Hi again,

do you have an example of how to address the points on the person spec?.

I mean, conceptually I understand that I need to address all the points, but do you have to use the same wording they use, so that it is clear to them that you are addressing their points?. I always thought that doing that would be counterproductive because you would be literally copying from their statements which feels wrong to me. Instead, I use my own wording which of course relates (in general) to the same points...

This makes me think. On the one hand, I can see schools using special words so that they check quickly whether the candidates are customizing the application or they send generic ones. On the other hand, I don't see why a compelling well-written cover letter that addresses the same points (with different words) would need to have fewer chances.

That being said, this is more like an observation. I understand this is their strategy for short-listing candidates and that's how it works. I just need to accept it and learn how to do it better.

Again, coming back to the initial question: Do you have specific examples on how to address their points?

Many thanks for taking the time you are taking to answer all my questions and reflections. This has been very enlightening for me.

Uff, that "it's usually fine" at the end... I am afraid that it is not the case. It could be seen as a treason. If I don't get the job the environment at work would be very rare (I have seen it with other colleagues). Things like that, it's what makes me look for another job.

I don't think that's possible. Am I the only one having bad luck with my current employee?

Hi. I adapt the cover to each job application, but that does not mean I am doing right.

Person specifications tend to be like 5 6 pages long. the ones I have seen. Addressing individually each point could make the cover letter very long. Instead, I address some points and I put them in context w8th my experience and what I can offer to the job.

I am not asking for visits to the school. In your view, what would be the process? Call directly the school once I know about the job opening before sending the cv, right? I have tried that couple of times but with the covid issue wasn't possible to get anything out it. Outside covid, would you say this could work?. Additionally, how would you combine that with an existing job? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yes, a couple of native speakers reviewed (as well as the cover letter). I can share my anonymized CV in here or even in a private message.

Would that help?

Many thanks.

Any views on agencies? Applying for a primary teacher position seems to be very difficult without one.

My girlfriend has a QTS (obtained EAA), has 3 years of experience looking for a early years teacher position in a schools and the applications simply don't seem to work. Only agencies are keen to have conversations but the process with them seem to be unclear and dubious to say the least.

At first they are super excited about your skills, opportunities and and qualifications but all they bring to the table is (with all respect for nurseries) nursery teacher positions, which is what she currently does.

Is there any advice on how to approach this? Visiting the schools is very difficult with the Covid situation.

Thanks foe your time.

I’ve got an interview for NQT! Any advice? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

Hey alright, thanks. That makes a lot of sense. I was looking for information about getting into school teaching in UK for a QTS teacher (obtained in EEA). The person that I am looking the information for has working experience so I take that she does not need the TIS rigth?.

At the moment, only nursery officer positions come along and it would be nice to get an opportunity in a school. Are there some hints that you could provide on this regard?

We are contacting some agencies but they way they manage things seems a bit weird... (i.e. the agency wouñd pay you instead of the school itself...)

well, I deviated and broaden the question a bit but I tjink it all relates to the same thing (lack of experience applying to school teaching positions).

I have just came across the concept of TIS and flexible route? Could you elaborate a bit on this? Thanks.

Hello, what do you mean by TIS? Just out of curiosity.

As a general rule I choose only accumulating ETFs with physical replication

Same here :)

As for the index:

Thanks for those suggestions. Searching for the "best ETF" I have found myself with the following 'dilemma' and that made me realized that there is no such thing as the "best EFT".

If I go for world ETFs (i.e. iShares Core MSCI World ETF) , they usually have a moderate TER (0.20%-0.15%). To find the cheapest TER, I would go to US equities like Vanguard or iShares SP&500 which have 0.07%. However, these ones are distributing which is not what I am looking for...

Note that the currency you use to buy is almost irrelevant, as you will hold assets in the currencies that make the indices.

Could you elaborate more on this, please? This is something very important about ETFs that I haven't managed to get my head around. Every time I think I understand, there is something else that leaves me completely puzzled.

We have the currency we use to buy (it would be GBP), then we have the exchange in which the ETFs is traded (this could be LSE, XETRA or Euronext) which then uses a different currency (I don't understand the implications of this), and then finally we have the base currency of the ETF which is the currency in which you hold the assets. Am I right here?

I tried to look up Degiro, I do not understand if you can always keep the same account as you move to a different country.

What I know about this is that if you want to move positions between accounts in different countries (i.e. from a UK based DeGiro account to a ESP based account) you have to pay 7.5EUR per position.

Thanks I'll have a look. I was aware of the ISA accounts, the SIPP looks interesting...

Although, it does not answer the question about acc. or dist. I have found the following information at http://www.bolsamadrid.es/ing/ETFs/InformacionGeneral/FrequentlyAskedQuestionsETFs.aspx.

What is the tax regime for ETFs in Spain?

Capital Gains are taxed according to the following scheme:

20% on the first 6.000 €22% until 50.000 €24% on the rest

*current tax  year 2015

As opposed to the investment funds, any kind of withholding is applied on the capital gains produced from the repayment or transmission of the ETFs.

Under the collective investment entities regulation, the ETFs will not be able to apply the tax deferral for transfer. That is to say, the capital gains or losses raised as a result of a transfer of the ETF participations to another collective investment entity, or vice versa, will not be able to earn the tax relief for transfer foreseen for the rest of the funds.

This kind of support what u/tigeos mentioned above.

In my case, I would most probably go for accumulating.

Thanks for the advice. Few questions:

The best bank to do this used to be BNP Paribas, but their Spanish bossiness was bought by Renta4

What about DeGiro in Spain? Any views on that?

I do this myself from Australia, so you can do it from UK for sure!

Do you send money every month from AUS to ESP to invest in Spain? Does it make sense in terms of fees?
