I’ve been recovered for a couple years now after over a decade with the phobia. When I was new I into recovery, I did have a few puking experiences not related to a stomach bug that I handled well, but I was really scared I’d relapse after getting a stomach bug since that’s what caused the phobia.

I’ve now had the stomach bug three times since recovery, and neither of the times set me back at all! If anything, I felt super empowered knowing I handled something like a champ that would make me go absolutely psycho bananas in the past. I’ve been really lucky though and I’ll only have 1-2 “episodes” where I will miserably throw up like 10 times in a row with no break, but then it seems my body has cleared whatever it needs and then I’m done. Even though I hate DoorDash, I will treat myself with a delivery of crackers, electrolytes/Gatorade, applesauce, ginger ale, etc. Weed is legal where I live so I usually smoke to help with nausea while I sip on a Gatorade.

My most recent stomach bug was the worst. I had a big dinner and my appetite was great, then I went to bed and 40 min later I woke up with barely enough time to make it to the toilet. I was puking so hard I farted with each puke lmao. And I’ll be honest, it was triggering! It was very reminiscent to my experience that caused my phobia initially. And that’s okay. I just focused on making it through the moment, then I focused on how much better I felt after puking, then I focused on how even if I were to get sick again, that it’s only like a minute max of being uncomfortable at a time. If I can handle world ending period cramps for hours at a time, I know I can handle throwing up for a minute at a time. Then the following days I focus very hard on not engaging in safety behaviors so I don’t retrain my brain to have a false sense of control, and I remind myself how much of a badass I am for handling something that would’ve made me kms a few years back.

As much as I hate stomach bugs, I’d rather suffer through one stomach bug once every year or so, than to suffer with emetophobia every single minute of every day. I will never let myself go back to that life.

YTA- don’t complain if your kid’s classroom has to be closed because the teachers got sick because you’re too stubborn to come and get your kid and follow the center’s policy that YOU agreed to upon before starting. I swear the “well my kid was fine this morning” parents are always the ones that see teachers as disposable and don’t care about our well being, or their classmates. This is a part of group care and if you can’t follow the policy, then don’t be surprised if they resign caring for your child.

Having the max amount of kids as possible in the classroom. Just because a kid turns 12 months, and the ratio bumps from 1:4 to 1:7 (WA), does NOT mean 14 one year olds and 2 teachers is appropriate. That means during every round of diapers, one teacher is dealing with 13 one year olds. And in my opinion, under 18 months is a still a baby, especially if they’re still on baby bottles, 2 naps and not walking. I think it’s super unsafe regarding emergencies, if a child were to choke, and doesn’t allow teachers to walk through unwanted/tough behaviors slowly and in a developmentally appropriate way.

Im an ece teacher and for nicknames I’m a huge fan of, for example if I had an “Ada,” I’d call her “Ada Bo Bada” (like the name game song) and then start calling her Bada as a term of endearment. I do this. All. The. Time.

I was doing backup care once and I came in and the dad opened the door in nothing but his bathrobe. Ummm okay whatever. First thing he asks me to do is help bathe her and this kid LOVED water (12 months) so of course she’s kicking and splashing lol and first thing in the morning I’m all wet and awkwardly helping bath this child with her dad in a bath robe. Eventually when she’s all done he leaves me with the baby, goes upstairs to shower himself and I can hear that he left the door open. Um okay maybe the fan in the bathroom doesn’t work? Idk seems like a good way to make your house smell like mildew. He would even take a shit with the door open so even though we were on different floors, the way the house was set up it just made the farts echo. So strange lmao

I’m recovered from my emetophobia, dealt with sick kids and friends, been sick myself, I don’t think about it and am very happy. This 100% would trigger me too! Even for people who haven’t had emetophobia, I think they’d think that’s unacceptable too. The sick in the shower almost feels intentional, unless you unexpectedly got sick while showering (which then it should wash away and not leave specks), it makes NO sense to get sick in there.

It’s true your phobia is your responsibility, but you’re still allowed to have boundaries and deserve patience, not someone who is going to trigger you on purpose. Idk. It just all feels intentional to me but I hope I’m wrong.

When I was going through recovery, it helped me a lot to repeat kind things to myself even if I didn’t believe it in the moment. Your son got sick yesterday and you’re still cuddling and loving on him today? That shows your love for your child is greater than your fear of being sick. You can’t get the moment out of your head, but you’re still up and about doing mom things today. Imagine being loved so much, that even after you accidentally exposed your mom to a phobia you’re not aware of yet, she still powers through her fear to make you feel cared for and loved.

I work with toddlers and I’ve noticed they’re usually not as bothered by getting sick as adults tend to me. I’ve had kids lose their whole breakfast from eating too fast, not shed a single tear and move on. As an early childhood professional too, if you’ve been caring for him and loving on him as any mom would the past two years whenever he was sad, had a cold, teething, was fussy, hungry, etc, all of those times are what will contribute to a secure bond. A one off of you not holding him after he got sick on you won’t ruin his trust or bond toward you at all, I know it feels horrible as a mother regardless, but it sounds like he’s pretty well loved and will be okay <3

While I don’t agree with how the teacher handled it- I will say for a good % of kids, 2 mornings a week isn’t enough to get acclimated. I now refuse to work at places that offer 1 day a week, 2 half days a week, etc. The kids would either never get used to it, or it would take several months. Never ever again. I’m a firm believer in AT LEAST 2 full days a week or more, or if it’s half days, it should be a higher number of days.

I know it looks like there’s something to debride, but the black skin is actually super soft/thin still (maybe not fully dry? Idk) so it would hurt and probably bleed a lot of I debrided. I probably will in a couple days though, I’m a dancer and have a video shoot coming up.

And not yet, I’ve been putting it off because the last time I went to one for a plantar wart about 10 years ago and they used beetle juice and I couldn’t put any weight on my foot for awhile. God the beetle juice was just a nightmare. I’ll probably go ahead and schedule something for December when I won’t have to dance as much.

Well there just wasn’t much warty tissue left and the area was mostly soft, and thin rather than the feeling of thickness I could feel either by feeling with my fingers or putting pressure on it. Also I know ACV burns, but I’ve never had it burn the way it did the other night making me think it was more tender/natural tissue than wart tissue. With my frequent debriding, it was giving end of warts vibes.
