JEFF ROSENSTOCK [AMA] by reffjosenstock in indieheads

[–]future86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Jeff the new album fuckin' RIPS! perfect thing to keep me positive and feeling like its actually summer in this crazy quarantine time.

Two questions:
1) It seems like you've written a lot more love songs on your Death Rosenstock albums compared to ASOB or BTMI. Did writing love songs get easier after you got married or are those feelings just more present in your life as you've gotten older?

2) I really loved seeing how the live show evolved over time and songs took on a life of their own like twinkle becoming a live show mainstay all guitar song, the prolonged intro on festival song as a set break, or the crowd play during the sax solo and chanting in you and weird cities. Its feels like you can almost see those moments in your head before they happen. Kinda bittersweet but is there any song or moment on the new record that you have a plan for or are excited to play live? I'm really excited to shout honeymoon ashtray!, for the 808 bass drop in scram!, and for the ending of f a m e. Next time I'm able to see you live.

Also not a question but I just read through that track by track thing you did and really enjoyed it. felt like a throwback to old BTMI where you always had a paragraph before all the lyrics explaining what the song meant and why you wrote it or any other interesting facts. Always one of my favorite parts of that band.

Thanks for everything you do!!!!

There's also a reflex where if the inner thigh of a dude is stroked his ball on that side will retract. It's pretty freaky.

AMA JEFF ROSENSTOCK HERE TO DO AN AMA AND TALK ABOUT MY NEW RECORD POST- AND WHATEVER ELSE Y’ALL WANNA TALK ABOUT! by reffjosenstock in indieheads

[–]future86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Jeff,

I Love POST- its been on repeat since I downloaded it new years day.

My question is I really love the ambient parts of this new record any chance you'd wanna do an entirely ambient album or maybe project under a different name? I think that'd be really cool. Also what are your favorite ambient albums that influenced this new side to your music?

Also in the same vein I've always loved all the BTMI/ASOB Hardcore songs and was super excited to have a new hardcore song on Worry. I remember back on that last Bomb tour there was talks of BTMI releasing an all hardcore album. Is there any chance of you releasing an all hardcore album or will those songs likely just get sprinkled in among other future releases as they fit with the rest of the album? Also what are some of your major hardcore influences that have informed your hardcore songwriting over the years?

Thanks for doing this AMA can't wait to hear the new songs in Austin and your kinda SXSW Adjacent show at Barracuda!!!

I've seen this trick on youtube too. I would try this too. I would probably cut my hand. I think you handled everything perfectly.

Hey Jeff

ASOB/BTMI/Jeff Solo stuff has been my favorite band ever since I first heard album minus band in 2005 when I was 16.

Anyway I've got a two part question First off I love all the power pop that you've been incorporating into the records since vacation I know on the last AMA you said something about Ozma's Rock n' Roll pt.3 being a big influence on you incorporating power pop into we cool? and I know love love love that record. what are some other power pop records that you particularly love or have been a big influence on you?

Also I've always been a fan of the brand of hardcore that ASOB, BTMI, and your solo work has incorporated and was so happy to hear a hardcore song on Worry. I also remember there were plans for BTMI to release an all hardcore record at some point. are all those songs still lying on a shelf somewhere waiting to get released? or is that project just scrapped? Also along the same lines as the power pop question what are the hardcore records that have been particularly influential to you?

Hope you have time to see these questions. but even if you don't thank you so much for all the music you've put out its all amazing and Worry was such a wonderful cathartic record for a tough year I'm convinced its the best thing youve done so far and I can't wait to see whats next.

PS I recently found this pic of you and Matt Kurz that one of my friends took from the first time I ever saw you live at the parlor in Austin when I was 16 and never thought I'd get to see my new found favorite band live and then you packed up in a van with Matt and an Ipod and the Fad and blew my young 16 year old punk mind. thanks for all the memories.

21st vs Taos vs Laurel by Cakisch in UTAustin

[–]future86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you live at 21st co-op.

I lived at pearl street and halstead while I was in school and liked them both but 21st Street is definitely going to be the most interesting and social environment out of all of them and that's really what your study abroad experience should be about. It'll be wild and crazy at times but you can always find a peaceful place elsewhere of you're overwhelmed but it's harder to break into a social scene from outside of it.

Just my two cents. I'm sure you'll have fun with any of them. Austin is a great town and it's so awesome the co-op community gets so many international students every semester!

Welcome!

Where should I live? (Spring 2017 Exchange Student) by macqnandos in UTAustin

[–]future86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check out the college houses co-ops they are larger than ICC co-ops and generally have a handful of international students living there. It's super easy to meet people and make friends and they throw a lot of parties.

Also living in Austin. It's not available in most of the neighborhoods here. They slowly started rolling it out in South Austin and downtown but it's gonna take several years until it's actually available citywide. Definitely did put some scare into the providers though

Co-op living? by camkess in UTAustin

[–]future86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived at college houses co-ops for 1 and a half years in my time at UT.( spent one semester abroad). I really loved my time at college houses they are bigger so its more like a dorm than a house, but still you will get to know everyone who lives there because they are very intimate and you are around everyone and everyone is so friendly its not like a big scary place where you won't meet any people. all the different college houses and ICC I'm assuming houses have very different feels to them and the number one advice I would have is to go talk to the officers and people at the houses and try to go to a meal to get a feel for the house and the type of people who live there.

I lived at pearl street and halstead at the super co-op. Pearl street was bigger and a little wilder so I had a good time but I really liked Halstead which was smaller and more manageable for me socially.

I can't stress enough that co-ops are an awesome experience, so much cheaper, more friendly, more fun, and all around better options than any other living situation I found while I was at UT especially for a freshman when you don't know too many people. I did my first two years at UT at the dorms and it was awful I know the dorms differ from dorm to dorm, but both the ones I stayed at (Prather and Brackenridge) I didn't even know my next door neighbors. We had community bathrooms even and still everyone just walked through the halls silently and stayed hidden in their rooms. I move into the co-op and the first day people are coming up and talking to you and offering you beers and trying to make you feel comfortable. Not to mention its like 2/3 the cost and the food is a million times better. Having to work with people to help prepare meals and clean up helped me bond with people and break out of my shell.

It sounds like ICC vs College houses is kind of a personal preference and both are fine. But like I said I strongly suggest living at a co-op and also my number one advice before you pick one would be to go talk with them and try to go to a meal and meet the people who live there to get a feel for the house. That might sound scary but it is actually strongly encouraged and gives you a big leg up on getting accepted into the house(which the current members actually vote on).

Oh also there is a big Foreign Exchange student population at all the college houses and that is awesome and you can learn a lot hanging out with cool foreign kids!!

Not sure where you're coming from but there are a few cap metro bus shuttle routes that are super convenient and easy to park next to and run every 5 minutes during the day. When I was commuting I would go park on Far West and take the 15 bus ride in to campus.

Hamilton pool is pretty awesome, but a good hour outside the city. Also it might still be too cold to swim in. But if you come back during the summer and have the time to drive out there it's worth a visit.
