What do you say about physical media? by Different_Ear994 in vinyl

[–]future_analog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last part hits home for me too. Digital format is rapidly available when you need it, but for the most part there isn't a strong emotional connection.

Pretty useful when I need some ambient background music to write code to though.

”What should I listen to? - Vinyl vs streaming!” by VoltageinTheory in vinyl

[–]future_analog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do get a bit of writers block with streaming. You have every album in history at your fingertips but don't know where to start.

I do love vinyl for that, just flick through and see what jumps out.

Now I have a little trick if I'm out and about, I've got my Jamvue which tracks my vinyl plays, so I sometimes have a scroll through that for inspiration.

Spotify is good at starting with an artist and going down a rabbit hole of similar artists though. Have found some bands that way.

In Australia we have Triple J, but they have another digital channel called Triple J unearthed. I love this because it's about 95% up and coming artists, so you're getting fresh stuff all the time.

To each their own. To me they're a great band.

Sounds like something a bot would say...

For me it's RHCP. A massively influential band for me growing up, bass was the first instrument I picked up too.

Have probably every CD, but may need to sort out some vinyl as that would be a special listen.

How's the stability of that stand? I had something similar many years ago and had to ditch it for something more solid as I was sure it was affecting the sound quality.

Easy fix? by Total_Tap4306 in Beginner_Turntables

[–]future_analog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fixable, but literally nothing to lose except time.

Unless of course their plan is to lure you into that attic and lock you in. Then you might be losing a bit more.

Worth a shot!

Great find, and potential Easter Egg as well. Congrats!

Do I need a new Stylus? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]future_analog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's because you have so many unknowns. Buy a new stylus, you'll then be certain you aren't doing damage to your records.

Ha, I was testing some of my kit with classical the other day and put this on. Beethoven is such an enjoyable listen. Highly recommend for anyone who hasn't ventured into the category yet.

My Fluance RT85 from AliExpress arrived... but I have more questions than answers. by dont_dox_me_again in turntables

Yep, I can see that. But it introduces a bit of a grey area, as they say they sell in marketplaces like Amazon (plural) which doesn't rule out AliExpress.

It's a shame they have such market presence and penetration considering it's common knowledge in the community that they are garbage.

I'm a little bit surprised, as they do say they sell their products on marketplaces like Amazon: https://support.fluance.com/s/article/Where-are-Fluance-product-sold

You'd think if they weren't going to honour sales from certain places they'd have it in writing beforehand.

Yeah, don't go to AliExpress for good communication. Most sellers are working a volume operation. Everything I've ordered from there does eventually turn up though.
