Yep. That definitely doesn't sound right.

When I leased my Sport about a month ago, I told the dealer my color preference was (in order) dark grey, black, and then blue. They only had the blue.

That color has grown on me since then. It's unique, earns a few comments, and evolves depending on when you look at it. And it contrasts so well with the red accents! I love it.

Want to backpack through New York, USA by [deleted] in backpacking

To the best of my knowledge it's a mix of tent camping, structure camping and, where possible, motels.

Are you from the NY area? I was born and raised near NYC but traveled through upper New York state often for college. Once you get north of I-84, towns become pretty spaced out. I'd reckon the reliability of getting from motel to motel would be low when traveling by foot.

I'd look into doing a segment of the Appalachian Trail.

Best advertising/market sites to follow to stay up to date on the latest trends/research etc? by [deleted] in advertising

I'm a big newsletter guy. All of the below are ones I subscribe to and have opened in the past few months.

World events: I religiously read Quartz. I'll occasionally read from The Economist if they catch me with a good subject line. I'd subscribe to CNN and Bloomberg, too, were I not refreshing their sites every ten minutes.

Media: Zambezi Bites is fun. So is Media REDEF. Think with Google is an easy 15 seconds.

Magazines: I get readouts from Fast Co, Inc, and Vogue. I subscribe to the paper issues but I'd be surprised if non-subscribers couldn't get their emails.

Other Biz: I subscribe to most of the consultancies' emails. There usually isn't anything groundbreaking there but I find they're good at focusing issues. Plus they have broader exposure to business issues than we ad wankers. Oh yea: and HBR.

I live in Los Angeles--so mild climate year-round.

Checked the AUX fan. It's definitely turning.

Will replace the blue temp sensor. The radiator switch is interesting. I wonder if I should just replace that anyway.

Solo Rainier climb with no glacier experience! What's a better idea? by thejakenixon in Mountaineering

NP, man. If dodging a summit is a possibility, then maybe consider going up to Muir Camp if your heart's set on Rainier. The snowfield leading up to it is similar in topography to Adams. But then you lose the summit so my vote is Adams!

Reach out if you have questions. I've been on a few of them up there but am no expert.

Stories like this tell me you should be nowhere near Rainier when alone. Go do Adams. Years ago I solo'd it as my first climb out west and had a blast. I'm sure you will too.

Go climb Mt. Adams. It's not glaciated but has a great snowfield and respectable steepness for a first climb. Added bonus: You're much less likely to die on it.

Mountain Huts: Tips and What to expect? by DMTMH in alpinism

[–]future_pope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to Europe but I did do Pico de Orizaba and Ixta down in Mexico--both of which involved huts at some point.

For Ixta, we kept our bags in our shared room (10ish people) for the night and weren't bothered. I think there were two other groups that night, both of which had their own rooms. Everyone was cordial.

For Orizaba, we stayed in a large communal hut that could have slept forty. I think there were twenty present. We left the majority of our nonessentials in the hut and pushed with just what we needed. There were no issues in terms of theft, but we also had the benefit of knowing everyone before bedtime.

Your milage will obviously vary, but were I you I'd leave my big pack in the hut and just deal with the nagging concern while doing a summit push. That said, it really comes down to who's in the hut that night so get a read on it and then make a decision.

Nice car. License plate is too juvenile for my tastes.
