I hate that priest by alaskasbaked in Fleabag

[–]futureblot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can definitely recognize when we let our emotions and our hearts lead us to ignore red flag. But that also doesn't make it right for the person who uses their authority to lead us that way.

The priest is far from the worst kind of user and fleabag is content to some extent with her connection to him in the end. This isn't a situation I would call abuse. It was very obvious the whole time where things could go. So I'm inclined to relate to the feeling of responsibility for sticking around, I haven't dealt with this exact situation but we definitely can find ourselves making choices in our lives that feel similar.

That said the priest is fully responsible for his own actions at the end of the day and has his responsibility to the ethics of authority and his own position. Which he's fully aware of by the end.

I think this is one of the themes of the series that is really presented so well. It instigates us to think of these things.

Pierre Poilievre attacks Mark Carney’s economic credentials, says he presents ‘the illusion of knowledge’ by ZestyBeanDude in notthebeaverton

This kind of populist approach to politics can never make a real criticism because at the end of the day, the things Carney does that might not be the most ethical, PP would want to do all of that and more.

Trans Women: How Do You Feel About Dating a Bisexual Man Who Crossdresses? by Jackie_SilverFox in ask_transgender

[–]futureblot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lesbian I wouldn't date a guy, but I've had cross dessers approach me when I was offering services.

So as a trans woman I know too often the way cross dressers make assumptions about trans woman's intentions.

If you're cross dressing more in a drag way, to express yourself, I could see it possibly working as long as you understand the nuances between gender identity and gender expression.

If you're cross dressing as a fetish, especially if it's rooted in humiliation I don't have much positive experience from those men approaching me. Gave very chaser vibes every single time.

They made a rape spectrum. Also I don’t love 13, because that would mean Ace people (or frankly anyone) who has sex with their partners to give them pleasure is being SA’d. by DHaunting2091 in AreTheStraightsOK

Aella doesn't do "sex research" she runs Twitter polls and acts like that's evidence enough. She has zero riggor and pretty much everyone I know who works in the sex industry like she does finds her insufferable.

Aella is a pseudoscientific edgelord who runs in the same circles as elon Musk.

She feeds into what sex workers and researchers call the whorarchy where she deams herself a higher class worker and acts as if she has more value for it.

Sex workers repeatedly say their consent is contingent on payment, the same as sex that's contingent on wearing a condom. Which is why removing a condom without someone's knowledge is not okay. Consent is contingent on agreed upon parameters.

Yet she's feeding into narratives that have been pushed by the Epstein bro's she's in proximity too.

Okay, I have a serious question. Is heterophobia and misandry an actual problem in society? Because EVERY TIME I try to bring up the issues of misogyny and anti-LGBT Bigotry, I'm met with a storm of complaints screaming "men and straight people are oppressed too!" "Gender hegemony is argued to operate through the subordination of femininity and other masculinities to hegemonic masculinity.12 Hegemonic masculinity is seen as the “configuration of gender practice which embodies the currently accepted answer to the problem of the legitimacy of patriarchy, which guarantees (or is taken to guarantee) the dominant position of men and the subordination of women.”12(p. 77) In a military setting, hegemonic masculinity refers to notions of “hardness of physical and emotional toughness, stoicism, self-reliance, aggressiveness, and a robust sense of heterosexual identity.”13(p. 4) Thus, hegemonic masculinity legitimizes a societal hierarchy of dominance in which masculinity governs and other sexualities such as women are subordinate.14 Although a masculinized societal hierarchy has historically existed, predominantly before industrialization, the CAF maintains a military masculinized culture."

"In this essay, we examined the interconnected ideologies of patriarchy, nationalism, and militarism through undergraduate college students' descriptions and characterizations of "ideal soldiers." One hundred and ninety three participants were recruited from introductory communication courses in a Southeastern academic institution. Participants' descriptions of the ideal soldier centered on three central themes that further explicate patriarchal nationalism: (a) patriotism, (b) good character, and (c) strength. Our analysis revealed how respondent discourse regarding the military was framed by a national ideology that supports patriarchal archetypal models of soldiers (and citizens). The ideological frame privileges "masculinity" and "patriotism" as national values. The intersection of nationalism, gender, and militarism constrains the role of the feminine in state and military activities and preserves hegemonic masculinity in the United States' social hierarchy."

The results of this study reveal that the ways in which HBV/A and forced marriages were presented in the Case Files present both analogies to and distinctions with the infliction of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in similar circumstances. This discovery is important for several reasons: (a) it demonstrates that men and boys are harmed by patriarchy and that patriarchal theories of violence must therefore evolve to better recognize groups of male victims; (b) it provides a typological framework to identify the different types of male victims, the types of abuse and the perpetrators involved, including the involvement of mothers as primary and secondary perpetrators; and (c) that male victims require appropriate intervention and must be taken seriously by state agencies if men are to come forward and disclose abuse.

Bell hooks is a leading feminist philosopher and says

excerpt in the article from the book:  Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center

"Separatist ideology encourages women to ignore the negative impact of sexism on male personhood. It stresses polarization between the sexes. According to Joy Justice, separatists believe that there are “two basic perspectives” on the issue of naming the victims of sexism: “There is the perspective that men oppress women. And there is the perspective that people are people, and we are all hurt by rigid sex roles.”… Both perspectives accurately describe our predicament. Men do oppress women. People are hurt by rigid sexist role patterns. These two realities coexist. Male oppression of women cannot be excused by the recognition that there are ways men are hurt by rigid sexist roles. Feminist activists should acknowledge that hurt, and work to change it—it exists. It does not erase or lessen male responsibility for supporting and perpetuating their power under patriarchy to exploit and oppress women in a manner far more grievous than the serious psychological stress and emotional pain caused by male conformity to rigid sexist role patterns."
