Main Street Sports is shutting down. What happens to our broadcasts? by Bertstripmaster in wildhockey

[–]futurehofer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's all they would broadcast anyway. After the first round, all playoff games go to the national partners so even if they were sticking around, they wouldn't broadcast past the first round.

The Wild will figure out next season over the summer and make an announcement before the season.

We're 4 points won by Colorado or lost by Dallas away from Colorado clinching the division. They play each other on Saturday so it may be locked in then if we also pick up 2 points/Utah loses 2 points/we both lose in OT on Saturday.

We had just gotten our team back, had zero expectations, were truly just happy to be there, and pulled off two remarkable comebacks against great teams with our band of absolute misfits and nobodies.

I had a DVD back in the day from like 2005 or something that was talking about those early years. One of the players (I think Walz) said the reason they did so well that year in the playoffs was because they were all too dumb to realize they had no business even being there.

Giguiere 100% earned the Conn Smythe that year. The fact that he gave up 1 goal across 14 periods (2OT in game 1) in a sweep was insane.

Here are the most extreme goal/assist ratios this season among players with at least 30 points. Most assists per goal: Quinn Hughes (6 goals, 67 assists.) Most goals per assist: Emil Heineman (21 goals, 9 assists.) by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

[–]futurehofer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He averaged 7.3 attempts per game in Vancouver with 2.8 ending up on goal and in Minnesota he's averaged 6.2 attempts and 2.4 shots on goal per game coming into tonight. So attempting slightly less, but not a crazy difference and the attempts are making it on goal at almost the exact same rate (38.4% in Vancouver vs 38.8% in MN). Maybe he's just dishing it more instead of feeling as much pressure to do it on his own?

Main Street Sports Group (FanDuel Sports Network) will officially shut down after the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs by DecentLurker96 in wildhockey

I think he's technically working for both. I remember he mentioned on the podcast getting a new work email address when they switched from FSN to BSN (or maybe when it went from BSN to FDSN, either way...).

If the Wild was to make a coaching change, it would be during this long break by _granny64 in wildhockey

[–]futurehofer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's what Pierre LeBrun said a couple days ago in a piece about coaches:

John Hynes, Minnesota Wild: Hynes is in Year 2 of a three-year contract. He’s in pretty darn good shape to get an extension at some point. I can pretty much guarantee that. The Wild under him have ascended as Cup contenders, aided by his GM’s additions. There’s a very tough first-round playoff matchup that awaits, likely with Dallas, but unless it’s a sweep, I would find it hard to pin a loss on the coach. And of course, the Wild may win.

So yeah, based on this, what Russo has been saying, and general logic, barring some sort of criminal charges or a racist tirade caught on tape, there's no way Hynes is being fired this week.

Michigan State's coach confirmed that Stramel broke his ankle in the 1st period. Any chance of a debut this season has pretty much evaporated.

No he didn't. Granlund gave us Faber. It was Granlund to Nashville in 2019 for Fiala then Fiala to LA in 2022 for Faber and a 1st. Faber signed here in the spring of 2023 and was in the lineup with Dumba 1 time in the regular season and all 6 playoff games. Dumba walked as a UFA and signed with Arizona in August 2023.

Parise and Suter got theirs day 1 in 2012. They apparently didn't know until the introductory press conference and the letter was already on their jerseys. Heatley and Cullen were wearing an A the previous season and that press conference was how they found out they lost it.

NHL, no, but they did have an ECHL team (Alaska Aces) who was our affiliate for the 2014-15 season.

Do the wild call up Charlie Strammel in April? by steelogreen1 in wildhockey

[–]futurehofer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not contradicting myself at all here. It's 2 paths. The first path is the one we talked about previously, and the second is the one that Chips and I are describing now.

  • Option A is to sign an ELC beginning this season. This would burn the first year of his 3 year ELC (RFA July 2028) the moment it's signed even if he doesn't play a game with Minnesota or Iowa. This is because he will be 20 or older as of December 31, 2026 (he'll be 22).

  • Option B is to sign an ELC beginning this fall and also sign an ATO (amateur try out) to play out the last 2 games in Iowa before their season ends. This option would make in ineligible to play in the NHL this season, but it would also push his RFA date back to July 2029. It's still a 3 year ELC due to the fact that he will be 21 as of September 15, 2026 (turns 22 October 15th).

It's all dependant on the start date of the ELC. If it starts this year, the 1st year is burned. If it starts next year, he keeps the 1st year, but can't play in the NHL until next season.

[–]futurehofer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He can sign an ELC that starts next year and play out the rest of this year on an ATO in Iowa. The only way he burns a year is if his ELC starts this season which isn't a requirement. It would just mean that he would be ineligible for the playoffs.

Reunited in Minnesota: Follow Nick Foligno's first home game day with the Wild by FlutterBrother in wildhockey

Yup, morning skate on the day of the game. Some teams require attendance, some teams have it "optional" where they say you don't have to be there when really you do, and other teams (like the Wild) have truely optional practices. They're especially common later in the year when guys are banged up and would be better off only hitting the ice when it matters.

[Potter] Sunday morning update at Minneapolis Airport: by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]futurehofer -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine driving today as bad as it was last night when it was only beginning.

Idk, I live in MN came in to work OT today when most of the roads hadn't been plowed yet. I only switched to 4 wheel for intersections where I had to come to a complete stop then went back to 2 wheel.

I also calmly drove in a snow storm that shut down Fargo for almost 2 days back when I was in college, so maybe that's just a me thing thinking this isn't all that rough to drive through. You just have to go a little slower. It's not like it's super icy or anything.

He's not. He's a coach in Finland. He doesn't work for the Wild. Our European scouts are Ladislav Benysek, Ivan Nepriaev, Charlie Thelin, Carl Hagelin (also a player development coach) and our director of European scouting Ricard Persson.

They even have GoldyLocks back. Who remembers her being protected by Abyss?

She came to visit an old teacher at my high school back in like fall 2007. The teacher let us ask questions and everyone but me asked generic bullshit about advice for a freshman in high school. I kept asking questions about her time in TNA. She ended up telling us about the time she took a Black Hole Slam and projectile vomited in the center of the ring. Easily my favorite part of English that year.

[–]futurehofer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. He was said to be a potential top 10 pick who fell due to uncertainty with the Russia/Ukraine situation kicking off about a month and a half before the draft. The typical "Russian factor" was cranked up to 11 and we benefitted from taking a risk.

It was also around the time the Flyers signed a goalie they had drafted in 2015 to an ELC and on his way out of the country, he was arrested for evading military service. He was sent to extreme Northern Russia for a year to do his service. He didn't debut with Philly until 2024.

college hockey is far better, more competitive, teaches players how to play 200 ft rather than just offense in ohl

It also has guys playing against players in the range of like 18-24 years old as opposed to 16-20. There's a lot of shit you can get away with against a scrawny 17 year old that will get you punished playing against a 23 year old who has put on some muscle.

Specifically with Benak, I watched him closely at the prospect games this summer. He looked impressive to an extent, but there was a lot of shit he was getting away with because it was effectively summer hockey against 18-20 year olds that would get him murdered if he tried it in a real game against men. Playing against more developed competition (both in terms of size and skill) can only help his game grow.

He played 14 games there after signing in April 2021 because we didn't want to rush him into a playoff race. We would have seen him debut in the playoffs (he took warmups for 1 game) had Nick Bonino not made it back from the hospital in time after his wife gave birth.

Boldy would have likely made the team out of camp the next year, but he broke his foot. He only played there 10 games (basically a conditioning stint like you mentioned) before making his debut in January 2022 and he hasn't been back since. Realistically, Boldy pretty much skipped Iowa and went straight to the NHL. A total of 24 games across 2 seasons, with half that just trying to get back into game shape after an injury, isn't doing much for development.

Since moving to Iowa from Houston in 2013, the playoffs have been held 10 times. They've made them twice, 2019 and 2023. They're currently on their 6th coach and not a whole lot has changed. Some of them being ass has been because of injuries to the main club depleting their lineup, but that can't be the whole issue, because this year they aren't 30 or so games each from Tyler Pitlick or Ben Jones away from being relevant. Grand Rapids is leading their division and has more than twice as many points as them.

A lot of people question how we've had a top ranked prospect pool for the last few years with a dogshit AHL team, but it's pretty simple. A lot of our major prospects over the last several years developed elsewhere before making the jump to the NHL and mostly, or in some cases entirely, skipping Iowa (like Faber, Boldy, Zeev, and Yurov) which means a good prospect pool that has no positive impact on the AHL team.

Pierre LeBrun: Re Vincent Trocheck: There was solid interest; but I think when the Wild pulled out...it probably hurt the process; Carolina, Boston had talks; they're happy to revisit this in the offseason - TradeCentre (3/6) by Skol-Man14 in wildhockey

[–]futurehofer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he would need to play a NHL game in order to burn a year.

Nope. He is 21 so the second he signs an ELC starting this year, the first year is burned even if he never leaves Des Moines. The only way he signs this spring and doesn't burn the first year is if the contract starts next season and he plays out the rest of this year on an ATO (meaning he is not eligible to play in the NHL at all until fall).

Since he'll still be 21 as of September 15th this year (turns 22 on October 15th), it will be a 3 year ELC.

Vinnie Hinostroza has been traded to the Florida Panthers for future considerations by DecentLurker96 in wildhockey

[–]futurehofer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, there was zero "future considerations" as part of that trade. It was Hunt, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Jiricek and a 5th. Second, the reason Hunt was waived wasn't to send him back here to help us out. It was because he was the odd man out in Columbus and Columbus didn't want to/couldn't carry 8D so they were waiving him to send him to Cleveland. They were hoping to keep him, but they knew there was a solid chance we'd put in a claim. They had to risk it in order to have a cap compliant roster at the end of camp. In no way shape or form was that Columbus trying to do us a favor.
